From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The U.S. House election, 1996 was an election for the United States House of Representatives on November 5, 1996 which coincided with the re-election of Bill Clinton as President. Clinton's Democratic Party won a net of eight seats from the Republican Party, but the Republicans retained an overall majority in the House. This was also a rare instance in which the winning party in the House failed to win the popular vote.
