The comune lies about 110 km northeast of the city of Trento and about 60 km northeast of the city of Bolzano. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,570 and an area of 46.6 km².^[1]

Welsberg-Taisten (Monguelfo-Tesido) borders the following municipalities: Prags (Braies), Rasen-Antholz (Rasun-Anterselva), Olang (Valdaora), Gsies (Valle di Casies), and Niederdorf (Villabassa).
