Portugal has participated 40 times in the Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result was 6th in 1996. Portugal came in last in 1964, 1974 and 1997. From 2004 to 2007, the country didn't qualified for the ESC final due to the introduction of the Semi-Final, even if they were only 3 points away from it in 2007. However, they did qualify in 2008. Portugal is the country that has participated longest without a victory.
The contest is broadcast in Portugal by RTP.

This section ranks the countries that have received most points from Portugal and those that have given most points to this country, of all the times it participated in the final (semifinals from 2004 to 2007 do not count), since the current voting system was installed (1975).

However in recent years things have changed, and Portugal seems to be more keen to give votes to Ukraine, Spain, Romania and Moldova.

As for points received, things havent changed as much, Portugal still regularly receives votes from France and Spain. However, countries like Andorra and Switzerland are now the most likely to give Portugal points instead of the remaining countries in the top5.
