Bulgaria has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest four times, debuting in 2005 (see ESC2005). The country joined the European Broadcasting Union, which countries must be part of in order to compete in Eurovision, in late 2004. Bulgaria made its second appearance in Eurovision in the 2006 contest, competing in the semi-final after the jazz-inspired band Kaffe failed to make it past the semi-final stage in 2005. In the 2006 contest, Bulgaria was represented by Mariana Popova and the song "Let Me Cry". In 2007 finally the country passed the semi-final and reached 5th place in the final held on 12th of May.
