See also: mathematics stubs.

This is a list of articles that need attention with concise explanations of the work needed and dates they were originally listed here. See the article "Talk" pages for detailed explanations and discussions of the problems.

[edit] General

  • Halton sequencetalk-this has been rewritten, thanks for all the suggestions!
  • Contraharmonic meantalk- the article was tagged for verification, but it IS verifiable (and correct in any case), so i removed the tag.
  • abc conjecturetalk - This article could use content. It's a very impotant conjecture, but it's quite short and has some non-well-defined terminology. I started to expand it, but I don't know so much about it. CRGreathouse (t | c) 22:44, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Markov processtalk - needs A LOT of work.. it has been replaced by a stub, because the old article was plain bad - grubber 02:19, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Equidistributed sequencetalk - needs a once over by an expert, performed merge. Ste4k 06:19, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Petri nettalk - I expanded a lot on this article. I would like some feedback. I sincerely ask you to please only edit things that you know for sure - the article is about something rather technical. I have, in the past, had big problems with edits made in good faith, but with no understanding of the underlying technicality. THX. Msoos 22:58, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Quantitytalk - A new section quantity in mathematics in this article makes reference to number theory and geometry, among other things. Opinions would be appreciated -- I find it to be largely incomprehensible: e.g. The essential part of mathematical quantities is made up with a collection variables each assuming a set of values and coming as scalar, vectors, or tensors, and functioning as infinitesimal, arguments, independent or dependent variables, or random and stochastic quantities. Holon 08:41, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Information theorytalk - Recent major edits. Needs standard formatting, diagram, cleanup, expert to double-check things.
  • AB Calculustalk - Requires standard formatting, additional information, and proper citation.
  • Plane (mathematics)talk an very poor organization and limited content. I touched] it a bit, but an expert is required to set up the shape of the article. mikka (t) 05:49, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Created sub-sections for definition and properties, plus tried to make it easier to read. Fuzzyslob 04:57, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Coherent dualitytalk needs wikification of formulas. --141.20.53.108 16:55, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Cohen-Macaulay ringtalk needs wikification of formulas. --141.20.53.108 16:55, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Please also check the links on these pages. Wikipedia is so awfully slow today :-(( Sorry also for posting anonymously, but wikipedia login is fucked up. See bug 1396 on bugzilla. This is not fun. If this does not change soon, this will be my last edit :-(( --141.20.53.108 16:55, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Topological manifoldtalk and differential manifoldtalk Started by User:MarSch in June or July as cut&paste from manifold and abandoned at that. MarSch seems to have no intention to do anything about them, so somebody has to fill in the shoes I guess. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 04:11, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
  • K-theorytalk: Needs to open up with a definition of some kind. Tompw 12:16, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
    • have moved short def to first sentence --MarSch 12:21, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
  • Ordinary mathematicstalk: The current content is nonsense, needs to be written from scratch (there is a hint on the top). Samohyl Jan 13:45, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
I've rewritten this article as a stub. The original content was about arithmetic. Paul August 16:12, August 26, 2005 (UTC)
Added some info, but it still needs expanding. Added the Expert template. --Army1987 21:40, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mathematicians

  • John Wallis - Much of this article originally came from http://www.maths.tcd.ie/pub/HistMath/People/Wallis/RouseBall/RB_Wallis.html (which is public domain, so fine to copy,) and the mathematics section isn't very different from what W W Rouse Ball wrote in 1908. I've been trying to make it more readable (quite how I got from RC patrol to this I'm not quite sure, but still...), but the century-old description of his work is confusing me. -- AJR | Talk 23:20, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
  • Theano - Pythagoras' wife and apparently came up with a lot of important stuff like the golden ratio. Certainly her Wikipedia article deserves more than a few sentences!

[edit] Statistics

Simplified definitions somewhat. 130.94.162.64 05:36, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Accuracy disputes

The factual accuracy of these articles is under dispute. See Wikipedia:Accuracy dispute for some advice.

To notify readers that an article may be inaccurate, add {{Disputeabout|XXX}} on the top of the article, replacing "XXX" with the topic you are concerned about, and explain your concerns on the talk page.

[edit] Articles needing factual verification

These articles contain information for which source verification has been requested. That means that somebody found the information doubtful or even false, but that it does have a reference attached to it.

[edit] Articles needing expert attention

These articles are in need of attention from an expert on the subject.

To tag an article as needing expert attention, add {{expert-subject|mathematics}} and explain your concerns on the talk page. Replace mathematics in the template if the article falls more naturally in another subject.

[edit] Articles needing wikification

These articles need to be wifikied. This may mean that it needs to be reformatted to make it more readable, that HTML tags needs to be changed into wikitext, and that important words need to be linked to corresponding Wikipedia article. See Wikipedia:Guide to layout for guidelines.

To tag an article as needing wikification, add {{wikify}} and explain your concerns in the edit summary or the talk page.

These articles need a complete rewrite.

To tag an article as needing a complete rewrite, add {{cleanup-rewrite}} and explain your reasons on the talk page.

[edit] Articles whose importance needs to be explained

These articles need their importance to be explained. Otherwise they may be nominated for deletion.

[edit] Requested images

These articles need to have an image to illustrate them.

To tag an image as needing an image, add {{reqphoto}} (for a photo), {{reqmap}} (for a map), {{reqdiagram}} (for a diagram), or {{reqimageother|type of request}} to the talk page, and describe the image that you have in mind.

More articles needing an image are listed on Wikipedia:Requested pictures#Mathematics_2.

[edit] Articles lacking sources

These articles do not have any references listed. Bad! See Wikipedia:Cite sources for some advice.

To tag an article as lacking source, include {{unreferenced}} either on the talk page or in the (empty) References section.

This list contains articles tagged {{unreferenced}}. There is also a list, updated occasionally, of articles that don't appear to have any sources based on the section headers in them. That list is available in two versions: sorted by category and sorted alphabetically.

[edit] Articles lacking reliable references

These articles may have sources listed, but they are not deemed reliable.

If you doubt the reliability of a specific source, then tag it with {{rs}}. If an article only has primary sources and needs some third-party sources, use {{primarysources|article}}. The parameter allows you to be specific about which part needs more sources.

[edit] Articles needing additional references

These articles have at least one reference, but they need more.

You can tag an article as in need of additional references by adding {{refimprove}}. Explain in the edit summary or on the talk page where they are required, unless this is totally obvious. If the problem only occurs in one section, then use {{refimprovesect}} at the top of it.

[edit] Articles with unsourced statements

These articles miss a source for some specific statement.

You can specify that a statement requires a citation by adding {{fact}} after the offending sentence.

[edit] Articles that are too technical

These article needs a better explanation of technical details or more context regarding applications or importance to make it more accessible to a general audience, or at least to technical readers outside this specialty. See Wikipedia:Make technical articles accessible for some advice.

[edit] Articles needing clean-up

These articles need general clean-up.

To tag an article for clean-up, add {{cleanup|June 2008}} (the date can be left to a robot) at the top of the article or {{cleanup-remainder|June 2008}} above the parts that need clean-up, and explain what needs to be done. Usually, a more specific clean-up message is more suitable.

[edit] Articles that could be split

These articles could be split into multiple articles accessible from a disambiguation page.

To suggest that an article is split, add {{split}} at the top.

[edit] Articles that could be merged

These articles could be merged with another article. See Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages for some general advice.
