Feh, its a bad image that doesn't represent the actual subject; instead it represents an artists' rendering of what three tangential characters in the series look like. For clarity's sake, let's remember that the noted Sith characters of the franchise as Sidious, Maul, Dooku and Vader. Peripheral characters aren't as important. Seriusly, what was the problem with finding an image of Maul. It seems like those are, like, everywhere. How about Dooku or Sidious? I like this one because it portrays three of the most significant Sith Lords of varying times in the Star Wars storyline. I do agree that Bane and Sadow aren't as immediately recognizable, but the article itself doesn't focus solely on the eras that Sidious, Maul, Dooku, or Vader are significant in; this way, we've got a single image (thereby keeping down the number of Fair Use images being used on the article) that serves as a general overview of the entire concept. With respect (and I do mean that), I think that labeling them the "most significant Sith Lords" is traipsing down the speculation trail - a trip that we don't need to be making. I think I could track down an image of Sidious and Vader from RotJ (maybe with a li'l bit of force lightning for added flavor) or Maul with double-sided light-saber that would work just as well. The image from the back of the gaming book is not the best we could find. - Arcayne (^{cast a spell}) 21:27, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, it could be that I've got that phrase in my mind because that's the exact caption used for that image. :) (I don't have the gaming book itself, but I know I've seen that image in one of the numerous books about Star Wars comics) I need to track that book down and get a copy, if only so that I can properly source the comment.
I also don't think the suggested replacement images would be as encyclopedic, as it would only illustrate a single character (each of whom is already illustrated in their article), but I definitely think you should offer suggestions in the IfD itself so everyone else can weigh in (Wookiepedia is a great source for such imagery).
And have no fear; though we disagree about this image, I'm not sitting and fuming over this, with thoughts like "Arcayne is such a jerk" running through my head. Just a friendly disagreement is all. ;) EVula // talk // ☯ // 21:33, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Might it be possible that you saw the image in the Sith article for Wookieepedia? You are a member there, so maybe osmosis took place. And I am glad twe are simply disagreeing. Yeah, I was none too impressed with it. I'm hoping to standardize all the character images next week; I want to use the Armageddon versus imagery, so that everything will look the same. Well, there aren't any hard-written requirements. However, candidates are expected to show an understanding of Wikipedia's policies on deletion (either through properly tagging pages for speedy deletion or through participation in the Articles for Deletion process), an ability to (positively) resolve disputes (or, rather, be able to work through them without resorting to name-calling and personal attacks, as well as varying levels of familiarity with out image policies (specifically, our fair-use policies) and a bit of vandalism fighting (which can come from reporting vandals to WP:AIV. A healthy number of edits helps too (generally, anything below two thousand is unlikely to pass).

Hi, I know it's common practice, but I disagree with the usefulness of it, so I don't do it. As you could tell by looking at my talkpage, I don't enjoy getting templated spam messages; I've watchlisted the pages I've started and the messages are completely redundant. I used to leave notes to people when that fad started, but the comments the authors left were without fail about as useful as the first comment you left at the rfd discussion, so I just don't bother. [edit] Question about single-user login

Dear EVula (as if you have nothing else to worry about...):

I'm considering signing up for single-user login, but my situation is a little complicated. I seek advice from someone who has done it before and understands how it works, and whom I trust. That's you. :)

The username "Shalom" is shared by three or four users across Wikimedia, myself included. I have more edits than the others, but I am not the oldest, and I don't want to ask other people to rename their accounts for me. That leaves two choices: (1) Forget it, who needs SUL anyway? It's a cool feature, but I survived this long without it. The main reason I'd like to have it is so that interwiki links could be attributed to me without my having to bother registering an account everywhere like you did. (2) Rename my username to something other than "Shalom."

That presents a couple of problems. First, I remember when Warlordjohncarter was renamed to User:John Carter it shut down the server for a few minutes because he had about 70,000 edits. I have about 22,000 edits plus another couple of thousand deleted edits, so I imagine renaming my account, and doing page-moves on my dozens of subpages, would cause a major headache for the servers and the bureucrat. Second, I have different accounts with different names all over the place. On Hebrew Wikisource I am still YechielMan (my old username here); on Hebrew Wikipedia I am שלום יחיאל; on Wikimedia Commons I am Shalom Yechiel; and on meta I am Shalom Hello. I'd need help from a steward who could go to all these wikis and do a pile of renames, if that's even possible. Asking local bureaucrats to do renames is more trouble than it's worth. (I could just abandon those accounts and let my SUL global account supersede them.)

Finally, I would have to choose whether to continue using a pseudonym - probably Shalom Yechiel - or to go with my real name, which is Yechiel Robinson. As I get more involved here, I like the idea of using my real name, and I have no reason to fear harmful consequences given the fact that my name and photo is already on my userpage for many months. But I'm not sure, and here too, friendly advice would be helpful.

I know this sounds really arcane, but I hope to stay here for awhile longer, and SUL could help me do it more effectively. Please reply on my talk page. Shalom (Hello • Peace) 22:24, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, I used Commonist; it's not Mac-specific, but it's done in Java, so it's actually platform-independent. Didn't have some of the Mac niceties, which makes it a bit obnoxious to deal with, but it certainly gets the job done. EVula // talk // ☯ // 18:22, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
