"All things must be examined, debated, investigated without exception and without regard for anyone's feelings." - Denis Diderot explaining the goal of the Encyclopedia[1]
"Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That's what we're doing." - Jimmy Wales explaining the goal of Wikipedia[2]
Hello! Je suis
le Grand Roi des Citrouilles! I am the Great Pumpkin King of Halloween!
My personality and general philosophy
Photograph of my basset hound who lost both eyes due to glaucoma.
Photograph of my basset hound who later had additional surgery on her body.
As my name suggests, I am especially interested in pumpkins, although I have focused much effort on creating and expanding many diverse articles. By my nature, I am both a determined and caring individual. I have donated to various charities and thus enjoy rescuing articles just as my family has spent thousands of dollars caring for our basset hounds. Accordingly, as a Wikipedian, I am best described as an inclusionist. After all, I tend to frown upon elitist or exclusivist ideologies in general, whether they be racism, sexism, or deletionism. Such ignorant ideologies are counterproductive and I really hate to see the hard work of good faith editors on a giant encyclopedia destroyed when their work really does not hurt anything by existing and actually contributes to our goal of providing the sum of human knowledge. Attitudes against achieving this comprehensive and inclusionist goal are counter to the enlightened philosophies in the era when the first encyclopedias came into existence. As Voltaire allegedly said, "I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write." In fact, deletionism tends to turn many readers off from Wikipedia,[3][4][5] which is sad, because this project has great potential. Moreover, the time spent nominating other people's work for destruction could be much more proactively spent sourcing articles. Too often, I see something nominated with a "no sources" rationale only to have myself and others find sources with relative ease only to have the article ultimately kept. Now, obviously libel and hoaxes should be deleted, but in general, keeping articles, merging information, and redirecting articles without deleting them are the best ways to preserve the hard work of editors without destroying it and alienating our contributors and readers just because maybe a handful of users, especially those who have made few actual contributions to building articles, aware of the Articles for Deletion (AfD) thing decide that it should be annihilated. Who knows how many readers and editors are ignorant of AfDs and look for an article only to see it gone without understanding why? Finally, deletionism has not only caused considerable divisiveness within our community, it has also garnered negative press for our project,[6] and even caused some editors to retire.[7] Thus, I am also on the watch to revert vandalism, to protect good articles from largely unilateral speedy deletion, to find references for unreferenced information, to add images to articles without images, and to correct improper grammar and spelling, especially concerning the use of the words "very" and "however." I also enjoy welcoming users and doing whatever I can to make Wikipedia a nicer, more inclusive place! :)
Grammar tips!
Contractions
"Finally, contractions (for example, wasn't for 'was not' or won't for 'will not') are generally too informal for use in a history paper. Rather, you should use the expanded form." -Mary Lynn Rampolla, A Pocket Guide to Writing in History, Fifth Edition (New York: Bedford/St. Martin's, 2007), 62.
However
"Avoid starting a sentence with however when the meaning is 'nevertheless.' The word usually serves better when not in first position. . . . When however comes first, it means 'in whatever way' or 'to whatever extent.'" -William Strunk, Jr. and E.B. White, The Elements of Style, Fourth Edition (New York: Allyn & Bacon, 2000), 48-49.
This
"The pronouns this, that, and which should not refer vaguely to earlier word groups or ideas. These pronouns should refer to specific antecedents. When a pronoun's reference is too vague, either replace the pronoun with a noun or supply an antecedent to which the pronoun clearly refers." -Diana Hacker, A Pocket Manual of Style, Fourth Edition (Boston: Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2004), 39.
"The pronoun this, referring to the complete sense of a preceding sentence or clause, cannot always carry the load and so may produce a vague statement." -William Strunk, Jr. and E.B. White, The Elements of Style, Fourth Edition (New York: Allyn & Bacon, 2000), 61.
Try
"Try and is nonstandard for try to. I will try to (not try and) be better about writing to you." -Diana Hacker, A Pocket Manual of Style, 39.
"Takes the infinitive: 'try to mend it,' not 'try and mend it.'...try to is precise, and when you are writing formal prose...write try to." -William Strunk, Jr. and E.B. White, The Elements of Style, Fourth Edition (New York: Allyn & Bacon, 2000), 62.
Very
"Use this word sparingly. Where emphasis is necessary, use words strong in themselves." -William Strunk, Jr. and E.B. White, The Elements of Style, Fourth Edition (New York: Allyn & Bacon, 2000), 63.
"Rather, very, little, pretty--these are the leeches that infest the pond of prose, sucking the blood of words. The constant use of the adjective little (except to indicate size) is particularly debilitating..." -William Strunk, Jr. and E.B. White, The Elements of Style, Fourth Edition (New York: Allyn & Bacon, 2000), 73.

Corpx’s vandalism fighting tips
- WP:WARN lists all the possible warning templates.
- The general rule of thumb is to start off at level1 or level2 (level1 is mostly for test edits and other good faith edits), but it is your judgment call. If the IP/user was warned and proceeds to make the same/similar edit again, give the next level warning.
- Vandalism after level4 warning is reported to WP:AIV.
- The thing to keep in mind is that for most cases, you have to start over on the warning scale if the last warning is not from the current session. By that, I mean you cannot give a level3 warning, because somebody put a level2 warning a week ago.

Account history
I intended originally to use my main account primarily for edits to French and pumpkin related articles, but my interests have since expanded greatly. Following my initial intentions of having accounts for specific purposes as well as the guidelines at Legitimate uses of multiple accounts, which on 22 May 2007 stated, “A user making substantial contributions to an area of interest in Wikipedia might register another account to be used solely in connection with developing that area,” I created only the following accounts to handle the specific types of edits indicated next to the names:
Unfortunately, it became too convenient to just edit with whatever account I had happened to log in with (rather than log out and log back in, etc.), which appeared to a few other editors as problematic, especially after some frustrating experiences with questionable deletionism on the Parma, Ohio article and in AfD discussions. Nevertheless, contrary to certain allegations made against me, I actually never used any combination of the above two accounts with my main account in the same AfD as confirmed below:
All the same, I have since abandoned these two other accounts, which are also blocked indefinitely, and will instead just make all edits from this my main account in order to avoid raising suspicions again. I have no plans to create any new accounts and I have never created any accounts other than those listed above.
Here is my main and currently only account's edit count.
Recently, five editors (Uckoman, TenPoundHammer, 69.86.173.19, Trusilver, Malinaccier, and Trusilver again) nominated or offered to nominate me for adminship, but I did not accept these nominations at the time.
Nice comments other contributors said about or in support of me!

Thank you!
Thank you for your help in my RfA. It hammered home a few things I need to keep in mind while admining and passed with a final tally of 40/0/4; two people forgot to vote in time, leaving me short of that exquisite number :-(, but I'll just have to fudge the next vote about me. Adminship feels slightly august but not particularily exalted, so I shall endeavour to consider it a toolkit and make sincere efforts to know what I'm doing before using it. Dear Le Grand Roi des Citrouilles, my sincere thanks for your support in my second request for adminship, which ended with 113 supports, 11 opposes, and 4 neutral. I would especially like to thank my admin coach and nominator, Rlevse and Ryan Postlethwaite who in addition to Ioeth all inspired me to run for a second candidacy. I would also like to make a special mention to Phoenix-wiki, Dihyrdogen Monoxide and OhanaUnited who all offered to do co-nominations, but I unfortunately had to decline. I had all these funny ideas that it would fail again, and I was prepared for the worst, but at least it showed that the community really does have something other places don't. Who would have though Gmail would have been so effective? 32 emails in one week! (Even if it does classify some as junk :P) I'm glad that I've been appointed after a nail biting and some might call, decision changing RFA, but if you ever need anything, just get in touch. The very best of luck for 2008 and beyond, Rudget. 16:12, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you...
...for your support in my recently closed Request for Adminship. I am more than a bit stunned by the outcome, which appears to have finished at 146 supports, no opposes, and one abstention. I am particularly grateful to Keilana and Kingboyk for their recent encouragement, and most specifically to Pastordavid, for having seen fit to nominate me. I also want to make it very clear to everyone that I have no intentions of changing my name again, so the servers should be safe for a while.
In the event you ever believe that I would ever able to assist in the future, I would be honored if you were to contact me regarding the matter. I can't guarantee results, unfortunately, but I will do what I can. Thank you again.
By the way, I know the image isn't necessarily appropriate, but I am rather fond of it, and it at least reflects the degree of honor I feel at the result. And it's hard to go wrong with a Picture of the Year candidate.
Now, off to a few last tasks before starting work in earnest on the various templates I promised I'd work on.
This RfA thanks inspired by Kathryn McDinaha's, in turn inspired by several others after Phaedriels' original. Hoping we can all keep such inspiration of newcomers ongoing, I am, sincerely, John Carter (talk).

Hello, Ο μεγάλος βασιλιάς των κολοκυθών (I take no blame if babelfish got it wrong :-P ).
I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. I appreciate that you were going to switch your opinion, and the trust that it meant you were showing in me. Once again, thank you for your participation. -- Avi (talk) 19:38, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey Le Grand Roi des Citrouilles. I would like to thank you for your support in my RfA and the confidence expressed thereby. I appreciate your trust. :) Best wishes, —αἰτίας •discussion• 18:30, 24 May 2008 (UTC) Hi there. As you may already know, my RfA closed successfully today. My initial work is actually going to be limited (admin-wise) to a personal project involving Special:UnwatchedPages to try to encourage article development and protection from vandals, and clearing the CSD backlogs. I do eventually want to branch out to closing AfDs, but your comments at my RfA gave me further pause for thought. As a result, I have decided to continue to contribute to AfD only in a normal capacity until I have confidence that I am at least aware of any systematic bias (which was what your oppose seemed to be saying). This will not be very restrictive, given that I didn't plan to start AfD closing until a bit later on anyway, and it will help me to improve my contribution to the encyclopaedia in this area. I hope that, should you find fault with what I am saying (beyond simply a disagreement with my conclusions!), you will drop me a line on my talk page. In the meantime, I shall work in these other areas as planned, and hope to earn your trust as an administrator. Best wishes, Fritzpoll (talk) 18:05, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

To my fellow admins - please let me know right away if I ever take any mis-steps with my new tools. Should I make a mistake, and you reverse the action, I will not consider it to be wheel-warring (but please tell me so I can understand what I did wrong).
To everyone - please feel free to slap me around a bit if I ever lose sight of the core philosophy of Wikipedia as I understand it - the advancement of knowledge through the processes of mutual understanding and respect. As always, feel free to drop by my talk page if I can be of any assistance. =)
Sincerely,

Thanks, Le Grand Roi des Citrouilles, for participating in my recent RfA, which recently passed with 81 support and 1 neutral !votes. I appreciate all the support and constructive criticism offered in my RfA and I thank you for taking the time to !vote in my nomination. I feel so honoured to be trusted by so many of you and please, if you have any advice, comments or complaints about my actions as an administrator, leave a note on my talk page.
I would also like to thank Acalamari, Rlevse and Nishkid64, for their nomination statements.
