[edit] CHWI

re: your interpretation of CHWI's callsign, I suppose one could backronym the CH as referring to CHUM Limited, but as CHWI was the station's original callsign when it was first established by Baton Broadcasting, I don't think we can seriously suggest that it was intended that way. [edit] Template:Superstations

CFTO and CFTM are not superstations in any sense of the word. You're confusing two distinct phenomena.

A network affiliate being made available on digital cable across Canada doesn't make it a superstation; it just makes it a network affiliate available on digital cable. Every major market network affiliate in Canada (and some of the minor ones, too) is available on digital cable across Canada — in actual fact, more Canadian television stations are distributed nationally on digital and satellite distribution than not. (Are you prepared to call CICI, CKLT and CKPR superstations, too? I didn't think so.) And American cable companies do exactly the same thing, so it's not comparable to the superstation phenomenon.

A superstation is an independent station with national analog cable carriage, which consequently schedules and advertises its programming with an eye to a national, rather than local, audience. Canada does not have any individual television stations that meet that definition. But I'll compromise with you and put in links to the system (CH, Omni, Citytv, etc.) articles. [edit] TV Market

Hi, I have noticed that in the past you have edited or created a template for a television DMA (market) in North America, or have edited an articles about television stations. Currently their are several different styles of the template being used. Because of this i have set up a workshop to obtain input on setting up a common configuration for these templates. Feel free to assist at Wikipedia:WikiProject Television Stations/markets. Also while you are their, feel free to leave you name as a participant on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Television Stations as well as any comments you might have, to help wikipedia improve articles on television stations. If you know some one else who has helped contribute to these templates or you think would like to help, please pass this mesage on to them.

[edit] Template:London TV

Do the Detroit stations actually reach London OTA, or are you just trying to pad out the template with cable stuff? If the latter, templates simply aren't done that way; they should only reflect stations that actually broadcast to that market over the air. Bearcat 09:18, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Internet Service Providers

Hi Raccoon Fox. Thanks for adding a bunch of articles about internet service providers. However, I'm not sure they meet the recommended standards for articles about corporations. Please consider reading the WP:CORP guidelines. Thanks! --Alan Au 23:05, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the follow-up. I ended up adding several of them to the Articles for Deletion page. This doesn't mean that the subjects are inherently inappropriate for Wikipedia, but then again, the current articles don't really explain why the companies are important. --Alan Au 00:52, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:User MSN

For your information, I have moved this template that you recently created to Template:User MSN Messenger because the title is too much like User:UBX/msn. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:43, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CA

You mention CA on the disambig page; can you please (a) Rephrase this so that it's more in line with the disambig style, and (b) make clear which countries this applies to. You may have to create a separate article if this goes into any depth, as disambig pages aren't really intended as more than that. Thanks! Fourohfour 11:41, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ACLU and United Nations

Hi: I'm just curious why you don't support the ACLU and the United Nations. I would have thought for sure, based on your other beliefs, that you would support both of them. :-) Lawyer2b 05:36, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] sql-0 userbox?

Have you ever had sql-0 in your userboxes? For some reason, you show up on Category:User sql-0, and I'm trying to figure out why. :P --Powerlord 09:43, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Response

Rather than post this on my talk page, where you might not see it, I decided to reply here instead. I've done a little clean up work and fixed the user_sql-n template. 1-4 seem to work. I'm currently using an user_sql-4 in my babel box. -- Powerlord 06:20, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimedia Canada

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 04:20, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TV Templates

[edit] TV Article names

I have seen you working quite a bit on TV station related pages here on Wikipedia. First off I'd like to thank you, I'm also interested in improving this area of Wikipedia. I would like to bring to your attenting WP:NC#Broadcasting. I know that in Canada most TV stations have a call sign of -TV at the end. This is not the case for over half of the TV stations in the US, and Wikipedia naming convention states that all broadcast station articles, TV included, should be named after the callsign of that station. If you do not agree with this, the proper place to bring up your concerns is either here or here. Until the policy is changed, please do not rename TV station articles unless they do not match the callsign. Thanks for your understading in this matter. —A 05:48, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CBLFT in Sarnia

Just wondering if there's any chance you could clarify a matter for me. The CRTC has no record of ever approving a license change for CBLFT's transmitter in Sarnia to move from channel 68 to channel 17. Even SRC's own website still lists the Sarnia transmitter as being on channel 68. But Azumanga1 seems to really believe it's on channel 17. Since you live not too far from the Sarnia area, do you know by any chance if the transmitter actually has moved? And if so, do you know of any source where I can confirm that? Bearcat 06:36, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Ah, okay. I still wish I could find a license amendment on the CRTC site, though. Bearcat 20:19, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of television stations in Bermuda by call sign

Do we really need List of television stations in Bermuda by call sign? Nothing links to it, there is only 3 stations (which you didn't even sort by call sign) and so it seems to be an unnecessary duplicate of List of television stations in Bermuda. DHowell 03:43, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

In re your reply, I think you misunderstood. I'm not objecting to a list of stations in Bermuda, I'm objecting to two lists of the same three stations in Bermuda. I'm going to make one a redirect to the other. DHowell 05:47, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Templates

Do we really need templates for the British Vigin Islands and insular areas, etc.? After standarizing the UKVI TV template, it looks exactly like the USVI TV template, but without the PR stations. The Insular Areas TV one needs work (neither the Federated States of Micronesia nor Palau are insular areas for starters) and I'm not use it has any use. If not, please clarify why you think so. And one more thing: Why the linking in the templates? Thanks. Kimmykun 09:05, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey, again. WBNB 10 in the Virgin Islands was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo back in 1989, so it's been off the air for quite a while. The other stations I took off were either translators or digital stations that have analog counterparts. Kimmykun 23:05, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
I think the USVI templete should be left alone like it is, but if you want to split it, I sugest doing it in the Hawaii TV style. Maybe something similar can be done with the Guam and Micronesia ones? As for WBNB, according to this, WBNB's licence has been cancelled, so it won't be coming back. Kimmykun 05:26, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Redundant userboxes

Hey, your userpage says it's okay for other users to edit your userpage as long as they leave a note, so I just wanted to let you know that I removed two userboxes from your userpage because they were listed twice in the same section. They weren't just similar to other ones, but were actually the exact same box. Here's the change: [2] If you double-posted them on purpose, sorry about that. If that's the case, you might want to add a tag that says <!-- this userbox double-posted on purpose: please don't delete! --> near each so no one deletes it again. Notes like that don't show up on the actual page, but can be seen when someone tries to edit the page. --Icarus 04:27, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article categories and user namespace pages

Hi, sorry I didn't provide more of an explanation when I removed those categories from your user page, I was just getting ready to go to bed when I came across it and wanted to get everything fixed before I went offline and forgot about it.

Basically, all the categories I removed from your homepage (either directly or via userboxes you were using) are categories that are intended to hold articles. Articles are always in the main article namespace, the one without a prefix. Pages in other namespaces, such as Wikipedia:, Talk:, or User:, are only here to serve a supporting role for the purpose of helping create encyclopedia content and are not themselves part of the encyclopedia's content. When people go to Category:Canines, they're looking for encyclopedia articles relating to dogs. User pages aren't encyclopedia articles, so they don't belong there. Here's where this guideline is described: Wikipedia:Categorization#User namespace Bryan 04:49, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Puerto Rico TV templates

Well, the old ones can be easily restored, so it's no big deal. The old pages for the repeater stations like WSUR-TV would have to be restored and demerged from their parents, though. If not, pages like WAPA-TV would have even more templates cluttering things up. Kimmykun 06:37, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

I rv'ed the changes to the PR TV template, because they made the template too damn big. If you want, I can break it up again into four separate templates like it used to be (or three... the Arecibo one only has three stations, so it can be marged into Mayagüez's). Kimmykun 01:19, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] {{totallydisputed}} on Common criticisms of Mozilla Firefox

It's good to see that someone still has some sense here! Thanks so much for adding that tag in, and all that good stuff. On a completely unrelated note, I was reading over your userpage and was intrigued to find that you consider yourself pansexual. When my friend came out to me as pansexual, I'd never seen anyone of that orientation before, and it's really interesting to find someone on here. Eh, that was completely random. Keep it up, and thanks, buddy. -Mysekurity [m!] 02:44, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, it's often tough with all the POV-pushers to get around that. I'd say the article, while criticizing Firefox in many places, is actually swing in favor of firefox through weasel words (as discussed on the talk page). I'd really like to rectify this so that it's NPOV and not lame, and was wondering if you'd help. Anyways, I like your answer about the Pansexual part, and though I have to leave shortly, I'll talk to you soon. Thanks again, Mysekurity [m!] 11:27, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Let's do it, then! -Mysekurity [m!] 14:59, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
I was thinking about it, but it probably has too much potential as an article to be deleted. What this needs, however, is a complete re-write from a neutral standpoint. I love Firefox, but I use IExplore when Firefox crashes too often, or just hogs too much memory. I feel that the way this article is written—blaming site designers or countering any argument against Firefox in a completely over-the-top response—is totally counter to our NPOV policy. Politic and other typical controversial articles are typically dealt with effectively because of our diversity, but the average contributor to Wikipedia is tech-literate and likely uses Firefox, Linux, or some other open-source product, and are therefore much more inclined to speak volumes of its greatness, and completely overlook the fact that it looks ugly as hell and the features aren't as well polished or user-friendly as their big-company rivals. Again, I'm merely stating my opinion, but I really think this needs a re-write, and it probably should be proposed at Collaboration of the Week or some similar location. -Mysekurity [m!] 02:04, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] World Harvest Television

Hi Raccoon Fox! Recently you edited the List of United States over-the-air television networks to reflect there are two networks run by LeSea: World Harvest Television and LeSea Broadcasting. There is no difference. If you look at the List of LeSEA Affiliates, you can see they all have a WH in their call-signs. The WH stands for World Harvest. If you go to the LeSea website, at http://www.lesea.com/ you will see many references to their starting the World Harvest stations. It's not a CBS/UPN comparison: that's like adding CBS *and* the Columbia Broadcasting System, and claiming they're different companies. CBS and UPN are owned by the same company (Viacom), but they have (mostly) different affiliates. In fact, by far the majority of their stations are separate. LeSea/WH doesn't have this: there aren't any LeSea stations that are NOT World Harvest Television affiliates. If you look at WHME-TV, the flagship station, you will see what it says: "The station is owned by LeSEA Broadcasting, also known as World Harvest Broadcasting." WHMB-TV contains the same statement. A statement that a station is owned by "CBS, also known as UPN" would not be correct. That's the difference. And that's why it's just one network, not two. Happy editing! --Firsfron 00:15, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Planned: Template:User MNTV

Say... I wanted to create a userbox for My Network TV like I did with The CW Television Network... You think you can do me a favor of gathering the color codes corresponding with each of the color of the network's logo (Image:MyNetworkTVlogo.jpg)??? Because I don't quite such conding yet. I'll be available for your response... --WIKISCRIPPS2K6 THU APR 20 2006 8:22 PM EDT

That's where your preferences come in. Click on "my preferences" at the top-right corner of the page, and type the signature style you want into the "nickname" box. You will also need to turn on the "raw signature" option below it. Denelson83 22:01, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] North American call sign

Care to explain why you deleted half the content of North American call sign? 121a0012 01:36, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Here's what happened. Here is where you deleted a large chunk of the article. In this edit you deleted even more. I reverted these edits here. You then re-deleted 3/4 of the article here. You then made several edits, one of which restored some, but not all, of the original content, splicing one sentence in the middle of a word (so you clearly were not paying attention): "List of grandfathered broadcasotected from interference by primary stations use the -CA suffix." CFIF then restored the text that you had deleted, and, finally, you added your new text without deleting what was there. So I think the current state is acceptable, even though it took a while to get there.
By the way, the notion of the Caribbean as a part of North America is not uncontroversial; some consider those countries (particularly the Spanish-speaking ones) to be part of Central America (or at least of the economic region "Central-America-and-the-Caribbean"). 121a0012 17:12, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "-TX"

Please provide a more specific citation. I see no evidence of such a thing existing, as witness the CDBS record for W48AV. The other things you added make me similarly dubious, but are less implausible. 121a0012 05:44, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

The first line of that "TV Query" display does not say "W48AV-TX". It says "W48AV". There is no such suffix as "-TX". I'm going to revert that edit. In the future, if there is confusion about how the FCC handles callsigns, please check part 2 of the FCC rules where the assignment practice is specified before changing this article. 121a0012 01:09, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
The point is that this is an article about callsigns and the FCC's internal database identifiers have nothing whatsoever to do with callsigns. 121a0012 01:18, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
You just don't get it, do you? The service class and callsign suffixes are completely unrelated. Go read 47 C.F.R. §73.3550 and when you have understood it, we can talk. 121a0012 01:22, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Local Talent

G'morning, Fox! A quick question... I had brought it up on the TV project page, but was wondering if it'd been addressed elsewhere as well -- I think talent should be removed from the local TV pages entirely. Simply put, I think putting anchor / reporter names up is kinda silly, because they would have to be constantly changed on here. (I also question the encyclopedic value of them.) Thoughts? [edit] Deletions

List of channel six TV stations in Canada was duly nominated for AFD previously and lost (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of channel six TV stations in Canada; administrators are always permitted to speedy-delete content that was previously deleted through proper procedures. If you think it's not fair, you're perfectly free at any time to nominate the US list for deletion; what you're not free to do is recreate previously deleted content without a good reason or a discussion of why the deletion should be reconsidered. Bearcat 06:31, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

The US actually has lists f l VHF channels (though no UHF ones, as far as I know) if you look in the right place. I'm still not sure of the actual encyclopedic value of organizing information in this way, but if you wanted to put together channel lists for Canada beyond just channel 6, I'd be perfectly willing to accept that — there's just no reason for channel 6 to be the only television channel that has a Canadian list of that type.
What other deletions have you so frustrated, exactly? Bearcat 01:43, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
Okay, if you're planning to put together other lists, I'll restore the Channel 6 list to a subpage for you. It just looks weird and pointless as a standalone in article space, though, so I'd ask you to keep it in your own user space until you have at least a couple of the other channels written up, and then you can start moving them into article space. Does that sound fair?
It'll be at User:Raccoon Fox/List of channel six TV stations in Canada. Bearcat 03:25, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
You should be able to just move them yourself (the move tab at the top of the article), but just post to my talk page again if it's a problem for you. And no, I don't mean you have to get every channel on the entire TV dial done first...just get a few done so that the Channel 6 list doesn't look isolated. Like, two or three. (And no, I'm not doing this just to be a pain in the ass — I'm just trying to make sure that it's obvious to everyone that there's a specific project underway, because otherwise any administrator will be able to come along and cite the AFD as a reason to delete the channel 6 list on sight yet again. I'm just trying to protect it for you, basically.) Bearcat 04:09, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

This is the monthly newsletter of WikiProject Tropical Cyclones. The Hurricane Herald aims to give a summary of the activities of the WikiProject over the past month and upcoming events over the next month. In addition monthly tropical cyclone activity will be summarized.

You have received this as you are a member of the WikiProject, please add your username in the appropriate section on the mailing list. If you do not add your name to that list, the WikiProject will assume you do not wish to receive future versions of The Hurricane Herald.

Storm of the month

Typhoon Chanchu near its peak intensity
Typhoon Chanchu was the first typhoon and first super typhoon of the 2006 Pacific typhoon season. Forming on May 9 over the open western Pacific Ocean, Chanchu moved over the Philippines on the 11th. There, it dropped heavy rainfall, causing mudslides, crop damage, and 41 deaths. It moved into the South China Sea, where it rapidly strengthened to a super typhoon on May 14, one of only two super typhoons recorded in the sea. It turned to the north, weakened, and struck the Fujian province of China as a minimal typhoon on the 17th. The typhoon flooded 192 houses, while heavy rainfall caused deadly mudslides. In China, Chanchu caused at least 25 deaths and $480 million in damage (2006 USD). Elsewhere on its path, strong waves from the typhoon sank eleven Vietnamese ships, killing at least 44 people. In Taiwan, heavy rainfall killed two people, while in Japan, severe waves killed one person and injured another.

New articles and improvements wanted

Member of the month

This isn't the generic barnstar, we just don't have a WPTC star yet…

The May member of the month is TitoXD. The WikiProject awards this to him for his brilliant work in improving articles. TitoXD joined the WikiProject in October just after it had been founded. Since then he has contributed substantially to many articles, for example Hurricane Nora (1997), which is currently a Featured Article Candidate. He is also actively involved in the assessment of articles and so helps to improve many more articles.

Explanation of content

If you have a topic which is not directly related to any specific article but is relevant to the WikiProject bring it up on the Newsletters talk page, and it will probably be included in a future edition of The Hurricane Herald.

These two sections are decided by the community on the newsletter's talk page:

  • Storm of the month: This is determined by a straw poll on the page. While all storms will be mentioned on the newsletter, the selected storm will be described in more detail.
  • Member of the month: Nominations are made on the talk page, voting is by secret ballot; read the talk page for details. The winner receives the WikiProject's barnstar (when we make it).

The assessment scale

  • The cyclone assessment scale is one of the bases of the new assessment scale for Version 1.0 of Wikipedia. It splits articles into several categories by quality, to identify which articles are "finished" and which ones still need to be improved.
  • The assessment scale by itself counts of several grades:
    • FA: reserved for articles that have been identified as featured content only.
    • A: this grade is given to articles that are considered ready for Wikipedia:peer review. The way to get this grade assigned to an article is by asking other cyclone editors at the WikiProject's assessment page.
    • GA: reserved for articles that have passed a good article nomination.
    • B: these articles are "halfway there", and have most of the details of a complete article, yet it still has significant gaps in its coverage.
    • Start: articles that fall in this category have a decent amount of content, yet it is weak in many areas. Be bold and feel free to improve them!
    • Stub: these articles are mostly placeholders, and may in some cases be useless for the reader. It needs a lot of work to be brought to A-Class level.
  • The way to use these assessments is by adding a parameter to the WikiProject template on the articles talk page ({{hurricane|class=B}} as an example). This feeds the article into a category which is read and parsed to create an assessment table, summary and log.

Here's some pointers to making a good tropical cyclone article. Dear Tropical cyclone editor,

As a member of the Tropical Cyclone Wikiproject, you are receiving this message to describe how you can better tropical cyclone articles. There are hundreds of tropical cyclone articles, though many of them are poorly organized and lacking in information. Using the existing featured articles as a guide line, here is the basic format for the ideal tropical cyclone article.

  1. Infobox- Whenever possible, the infobox should have a picture for the tropical cyclone. The picture can be any uploaded picture about the storm, though ideally it should be a satellite shot of the system. If that is not available, damage pictures, either during the storm or after the storm, are suitable. In the area that says Formed, indicate the date on which the storm first developed into a tropical depression. In the area that says Dissipated, indicate the date on which the storm lost its tropical characteristics. This includes when the storm became extratropical, or if it dissipated. If the storm dissipated and reformed, include the original start date and the final end date. Highest winds should be the local unit of measurement for speed (mph in non-metric countries, km/h in metric countries), with the other unit in parenthesis. The lowest pressure should be in mbars. Damages should, when available, be in the year of impact, then the present year. The unit of currency can be at your discretion, though typically it should be in USD. Fatalities indicate direct deaths first, then indirect deaths. Areas affected should only be major areas of impact. Specific islands or cities should only be mentioned if majority of the cyclone's effects occurred there.
  2. Intro- The intro for every article should be, at a minimum, 2 paragraphs. For more impacting hurricanes, it should be 3. The first should describe the storm in general, including a link to the seasonal article, its number in the season, and other statistics. The second should include a brief storm history, while the third should be impact.
  3. Storm history- The storm history should be a decent length, relatively proportional to the longevity of the storm. Generally speaking, the first paragraph should be the origins of the storm, leading to the system reaching tropical storm status. The second should be the storm reaching its peak. The third should be post-peak until landfall and dissipation. This section is very flexible, depending on meteorological conditions, but it should generally be around 3. Storm histories can be longer than three paragraphs, though they should be less than five. Anything more becomes excessive. Remember, all storm impacts, preparations, and records can go elsewhere. Additional pictures are useful here. If the picture in the infobox is of the storm at its peak, use a landfall picture in the storm history. If the picture in the infobox is of the storm at its landfall, use the peak. If the landfall is its peak, use a secondary peak, or even a random point in the storm's history.
  4. Preparations- The preparations section can be any length, depending on the amount of preparations taken by people for the storm. Hurricane watches and warnings need to be mentioned here, as well as the number of people evacuated from the coast. Include numbers of shelters, and other info you can find on how people prepared for the storm.
  5. Impact- For landfalling storms, the impact section should be the majority of the article. First, if the storm caused deaths in multiple areas, a death table would work well in the top level impact section. A paragraph of the general effects of the storm is also needed. After the intro paragraph, impact should be broken up by each major area. It depends on the information, but sections should be at least one paragraph, if not more. In the major impact areas, the first paragraph should be devoted to meteorological statistics, including rainfall totals, peak wind gusts on land, storm surge, wave heights, beach erosion, and tornadoes. The second should be actual damage. Possible additional paragraphs could be detailed information on crop damage or specifics. Death and damage tolls should be at the end. Pictures are needed, as well. Ideally, there would be at least one picture for each sub-section in the impact, though this sometimes can't happen. For storms that impact the United States or United States territories, this site can be used for rainfall data, including an image of rainfall totals.
  6. Aftermath- The aftermath section should describe foreign aid, national aid, reconstruction, short-term and long-term environmental effects, and disease. Also, the storm's retirement information, whether it happened or not, should be mentioned here.
  7. Records- This is optional, but can't hurt to be included.
  8. Other- The ideal article should have inline sourcing, with the {{cite web}} formatting being preferable. Always double check your writing and make sure it makes sense.

Good luck with future writing, and if you have a question about the above, don't hesitate to ask.

[edit] CBC Television stations

We've confirmed that CBC's O&O television stations actually don't use the -TV suffix, so they should actually be moved back to either just the four-letter CB_T calls, or CB_T (TV) if we have to disambiguate. Bearcat 22:45, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] m Community Channel

How do you figure that airing city council meetings, sports and bingo games contradicts it being a community channel? That's exactly the kind of programming most community channels air; it's a definition of the concept, not a contradiction. Bearcat 01:55, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Asperger's Syndrome

Hey, I came across your userpage from the history page of Asperger's Syndrome. Just wanted to say that I think that I might also be an Aspie (although I don't have a whole lot of evidence to back this statement up) and I dont think have ever had any contact with an Aspie until this. From reading your profile, it doesn't sound like you've had a lot of social success. I wouldn't let it get to you, things soon get better over time. I'm no socialite, but I have managed to have a considerable amount of friends. The key, I have found, is just to do whatever they do. As long as you don't do anything to stand out, (in a bad way of course), you're bound to have a least some social success. Anyways, just thought I'd drop in.

              Thanks,
                Cjwpmm360

[edit] TV station lists by channel number

Recently, per Afd the U.S. TV channel number lists were converted to categories. Please do so the same with Canada TV stations rather than re-creating lists. Georgia guy 18:53, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CITY-TV is no more a superstation than CKVR-TV, CIFH-TV or CFRS-TV

You added CITY-TV back on to the Template:Superstations. CITY-TV might be carried by a lot of cable systems, but it is now more a superstation than any other Canadian station carried on Satellite. The CRTC used to list these explicity, the most recent explict list I can find is available on their website, and lists: CBFT, CBFXT (sic), CBUFT, CBVT, CBHT, CBKT, CBLT, CBMT, CBRT, CBUT, CBWT, CFJC-TV, CHBC-TV, CHEX-TV, CJON-TV, CJCH-TV, CJCB-TV, CFCF-TV, CFCN-TV, CFTO-TV, CFRN-TV, CHAN-TV, CHEK-TV, CKCK-TV, CKCO-TV, CKCW-TV, CKLT-TV, CKY-TV, CJOH-TV, CFRE-TV, CIFH-TV (sic), CIII-TV, CKMI-TV-1, CKND-TV, CJNT-TV, CFTU-TV, CKEM-TV, CKVR-TV, CICT-TV, CKAL-TV, CJIL-TV, CITS-TV, CITY-TV, CIVT-TV, CFPL-TV, CFMT-TV, CHCH-TV, CHRO-TV, CITV-TV, CKVU-TV, CIVM-TV, CIVQ-TV, CHLF-TV, CICA-TV, CFAP-TV, CFJP-TV, CFRS-TV, CFCM-TV, CFTM-TV, and CHLT-TV.

Now this is now very out of date, and it got out of hand, so now they just have a statement saying "The programming service of any licensed television programming undertaking received from a licensed SRDU". Which covers every TV station in Canada (presuming that it is available on a licensed SRDU.

So either we eliminate CJON or CITY-TV from this template; or we add about a hundred more? Nfitz 22:55, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Market templates

Please don't throw categories onto market templates such as {{Van-Vic TV}} — doing that applies the category to every individual article the template is on. For an example, this causes KVOS-TV and KBCB to be filed as Category:Television stations in British Columbia, which they most certainly aren't. If you want the template itself to appear in the category as an item, which is legitimate, then please put it in <noinclude> </noinclude> tags. Bearcat 02:40, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Location grid

Hi. Did you intend to include Category:Geography in Template:Location grid? The template includes two geography subcategories. I am working on cleaning up the main geography category, and would like the Ontario-related articles that use this template to be only in subcategories, not the main geography category. Maurreen 17:54, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

I put them both in Category:Wikipedia geography. I think that should work for both of us. Maurreen 19:03, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
You're welcome! Maurreen 00:05, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Heya!

Hi Raccoon Fox!

[edit] Re: Bell Globemedia < CHUM Ltd.

Access, A-Channel, Canadian Learning Television and MTV Canada will probably get sold to another Canadian media giant, possibly Rogers or Torstar. However, the best-case outcome for this particular situation would be for the CRTC to forbid the transaction. -- Denelson83 01:27, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Well, if CTV buys CHUM, CTV would get the Citytv system and would own two stations each in Vancouver/Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Toronto. -- Denelson83 01:36, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
[19:40:32] <Raccoon-Fox> anyway...why would the CRTC forbid Bell from taking over CHUM? they can't own 3 channels per market?
The CRTC does not allow any one company to own more than two television stations per market. That's why Global sold CKVU-TV when it acquired CHAN-TV and CHEK-TV. -- Denelson83 04:54, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your signature (again)

Hello there, I was wondering if you would please modify your signature to conform to the guidelines laid out at Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages. The general guidelines are that signatures shouldn't contain images, they shouldn't contain unnecessary internal links or any external links, and they shouldn't be unnecessarily long in Wiki source. The reasoning for this final bit is that overly long signatures tend to overwhelm the actual comments in edit mode, making it hard to track down and respond to specific comments. You can fix your signature by removing any images and external links, any unnecessary links (like links to Wikipedian organizations, articles, or subpages in userspace), and removing excessive color, font, and formatting code. Thank you. --Cyde↔Weys 17:43, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of abandoned buildings in the United States

Greetings, I just wanted to let you know that the information the radio/tv station gave you for the year of abandonment of the Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, Michigan was incorrect. 1984 was when the hotel shut down, yes, but the entire building was not abandoned until 1986. Shops and a few offices still operated in the building after 1984. See the building's profile at forgottendetroit.com. Thanks! --Rkitko 23:28, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

No problem. I'm glad to see someone creating all these pages on these beautiful buildings! Thanks for doing that! Oh, I do have one question for you. It may be my mistake, but are the categories Category:Buildings and structures in the United States by city and Category:Skyscrapers by city to be used on single building pages? I was under the impression that kind of category was more befitting of articles like List of Vancouver's 10 tallest buildings or simply a means of organization of the smaller subcategories such as Category:Skyscrapers in Toronto. Let me know what you think. Thanks! -Rkitko 23:42, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism to your userpage

I apologize for the very minor warning I gave to the users that vandalized your /About page. I figured those edits were their first contributions, so I tried to be as tolerant as possible and (mistakenly, it turns out) assumed they were experimenting. When I came back later on in the evening and saw the extent to which these two vandals (particularly the second one I warned) had attacked your user (sub)page, I felt extremely bad. I strongly believe you should consider protecting your userpage and subpage(s).
Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with. I feel obliged to apologize for the vandals' (and so many others') intolerant, rude, and downright immature behaviour. I also apologize for failing to take stronger action against the two vandals I reverted.
Srose (talk) 15:37, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

  • The protection policy is at WP:PPOL. :) You can't prevent your userpage from being visible to anonymous users, but if you request and receive semi-protection, anonymous and new users will not be able to edit it. I'm sure that an administrator would be glad to provide protection to your userpage (specifically your /About subpage) after reviewing the extensive vandalism to it. [edit] Removal of AfD tag

Your removal of a valid AfD tag, an act of vandalism, and your weak attempt at a personal attack on me (I hardly nominate for deletion everything I see and you need to remember the directive to assume good faith) do not reflect well on you. I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were just surprised to see the article nominated so fast (I peruse recent changes from time to time, which is why I saw it), but please refrain from such disruptive activities in the future. [edit] List of TV Networks

Hi Raccoon Fox!

I've removed your edit adding Kids WB and Fox Kids to the list of TV networks; I did this once before, and placed a note on the talk page explaining why. Neither of these programming blocks are networks. They are programming blocks run by their respective networks. In fact, the very first line of our article on Kids WB states "Kids' WB! is the Saturday morning cartoon portion of The WB's programming." In other words, it's a portion of the network's programming, not a network itself.

Happy editing! :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 23:03, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Canada Building in Windsor, On

Hi there; just to let you know your article on the Canada Building in Windsor, On. is incorrect. It stands on Ouellette Ave. between University Ave. and Park St. The Paul Martin Building (named after the former PM's father) on Ouellette Ave. and Pitt St. is only about five storeys high, although the two buildings are quite similar in style and I assume fairly similar in age.

Both SPUI and Rschen have been blocked over some arbitary thing.Apparently they were both on some probation. What was ArbCom?HurricaneCraze32 17:03, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Apparently SPUI is nasty according to NorthEnglish, who's quit Wikipedia, by the way,he certainly doesnt deserve to work here. SPUI's been blocked for 10 days-should be more. Rschen's left also.HurricaneCraze32 17:08, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
SPUI keeps leaving an original research tag on the article i live on, which is above, I removed it again, I just happened to live on one street of CR 676, and wrote down what he think's is original research. I'm starting to get annoyed that he's probably trying to get me gone also, maybe there's a chance we can block him permanent by reporting him.HurricaneCraze32 17:13, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Mind telling me that you used that chart next time?

HurricaneCraze32 17:30, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Also this is what North left on his page."Silly me. I thought that this was Wikipedia, a place where civility and consensus mattered. Nevertheless, SPUI, despite being under probation after not one but two Arbcom cases, is still being allowed to do whatever the hell he wants, with no sanctioning from administrators or arbitrators. I disagreed strongly with PHenry's decision to leave Wikipedia, but now I see he was right. SPUI is using Wikipedia as his personal toilet, and those in power are happy to let him do so.

I have tried to fight SPUI, but this is neither beneficial to me nor to Wikipedia. Now that we are back at square one, and SPUI's behavior has escalated back to the point it was at before the Arbitration case that marred my first two months here at Wikipedia, the only choice I have is to leave. SPUI has made it clear that nothing has changed, and the lack of action by those in power in the past month has made it clear that nothing will change.

Have a nice life all. I'll be passing my time somewhere that's better for my mental health.".Its ok, just tell me next time.HurricaneCraze32 17:34, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites - Detroit Downtown

Just letting you know, I saw this on new pages patrol and deleted it. Wikipedia is not a directory. While we have an article about the Holiday Inn chain, we don't generally want articles on individual hotels. If you have a problem with SPUI's behavior, the answer is not to stoop down to his level with personal attacks. Find evidence to support your claims, and post it at WP:AE. -- NORTH talk 22:03, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Your frustration with the administrators is understandable, but they do take action on occasion, so it would be of use to post any additional evidence at WP:AE. What is of absolutely no use is resorting to personal attacks. -- NORTH talk 22:45, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] what's with nominating every windsor building for deletion

I did not nominate those. I did support the delete vote on most of them. The articles did not mention why they are notable and don't assert a reason to keep. Not sure what guideline would be best as a guide for what they need, but in my mind these don't merit an article from what was included. I think you are confusing program rights with affiliation. SunTV is not a MyNetworkTV affiliate. It will not use MNTV branding. It will not use the MNTV schedule. It does own the Canadian rights to the two programs currently on the said MNTV schedule, but this is because it bought those rights in May, when all the Canadian broadcasters buy programming rights - I saw nothing to indicate it was any different arrangement than when CTV or Global buy the rights to series like Lost or The Simpsons. Should any other non-telenovela programming suddenly show up on MNTV (as unlikely as that seems at the moment), I expect SunTV would not automatically get the rights.

Please do not assume "affiliation" simply because a station airs some of a network's programming. I can't say this is an exact science by any means, but for me, programming is not sufficient, particularly if the branding, scheduling, ownership and advertising are all completely different. — stickguy (:^›)— home - talk - 16:57, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reply to your message on my talk page

Yanksox actually responded for me, somehow; see my talk page for that response. Anyway, I said those things to the nominator because I'm glad to see a nomination that says more than "Fails WP:BIO". I commended the nominator because s/he put a lot of time and effort into the nomination and didn't just stick it up there. Personally, I believe that since articles take an extraordinary amount of time and effort to write, anyone who wishes to nominate an article for deletion should put a great deal of effort into their nomination. Srose (talk) 21:40, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Buildings

I just speedied one of your buildings (apologies if that was incorrect). Is there some standard for notability of skyscrapers/buildings on wikipedia? I couldn't see anything about 607 Shelby Street that makes it notable enough for an article. exolon 01:30, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

I just did 400 Maynard Street too. Please, don't create articles on random buildings. There's a unofficial guideline at User:Isotope23/Notability:Buildings which I think is reasonable. Friday (talk) 20:08, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Some 9-story building is the tallest in Detroit? That would really surprise me. Friday (talk) 20:13, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I wish you'd stop with these- don't you think it appears that people are finding these articles inappropriate? Surely you don't want us to use Afd to tell us what we already know?? Friday (talk) 20:34, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

There's also an excellent page at User:Uncle_G/On_notability which describes which topics are suitable for an encyclopedia. Friday (talk) 20:42, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Detroit Buildings Project

I have no idea if such a project is necessary, I have no idea how many remarkable buildings Detroit has. I only came across your pages by doing a New Pahes patrol. As I have more than enough to do with comics articles and New Pages patrol, I wouldn't be joining your project, but that does not mean that it couldn't be useful of course. Fram 05:42, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I got a message about your project, too, so I'll leave it under this header. I guess the necessity of such a project boils down to several things: 1) Do you have enough to do? I have no idea about Detroit and how many notable buildings it has. 2) Do you have at least two people who are already interested in joining you? 3) Do you have enough time to spend watching your members' activities and rewarding them fittingly, as well as sending out regular newsletters and maintaining the project page? If the answers to these questions are yes, then you might want to start a project. Wikipedia:WikiProject has instructions and even more guidelines. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to participate in your project regularly. If you want help now and then, though, I will do my best to help you out. I've got to keep my eye on Wikipedia:Wikiproject Estonia, my WikiProject, as well as the XfDs I participate in, vandalism, my articles and my images. I will be willing to help you set your project up, however; it can be tricky. :) Srose (talk) 13:22, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
I won't be joining you as I don't even live in the USA :) so don't have the relevant knowledge. You might do better with a more general project - WP:Skyscrapers? WP:Notable Constructions? Maybe something like that. exolon 18:34, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Architectural value?

Now you're creating more articles on random apartment buildings, but putting "NOTE TO VIEWERS: Before nominating this for speedy deletion, this was added for its architectural value, not as spam, not as an apartment building, or anything else, only for its architecture. :) " in them? Why? That'd be like me making articles on every local bar band saying that the articles are for their musicial value. What are you trying to say here? Are these buildings somehow significant for an architectural point of view? Friday (talk) 20:24, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Is there any way I could talk you into being more conservative with creation of new articles? Do you agree that some of what you're creating here would be seen as obviously deletable material by most editors? Friday (talk) 20:44, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] For Kids TV and Kids WB aren't networks

Hi Raccoon Fox, Please do not add For Kid's TV and Kids WB to the list ofUS over the air TV networks, as you did here. These are programming blocks, not networks. MyNetworkTV is marketing itself as a network; Kid's WB and For Kids (formerly Fox Kids) have never done so. Check their respective web-sites for details. Also, while the table looks much nicer with the logos, these logos may violate Wikipedia's policy on logos, which is to say they must have a fair use rationale. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 23:03, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

user:Zzyzx11 has removed the logos, per Wikipedia:Fair_use#Policy item 8: they must either identify this article's subject or specifically illustrate relevant points of the text. Happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 03:11, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:L-G-Saskatchewan.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:L-G-Saskatchewan.PNG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] KXAM KAXM

While reading another user's talk page, I noticed that you had protested the deletion of KXAM KAXM without what you believed to be proper research. I had had trouble with him putting unverified information into articles, so I checked out KXAM KAXM. It turns out that he is correct in having the article deleted.

The FCC CDBS station search indicates that KXAM KAXM was never built. The station's construction permit was canceled on July 3, 2002 and the DTV permit was dismissed at the same time. You cited W9WI in saying that the station was registered, however, while an excellent resource, it is not authoritative for uncorroborated use. I have found several errors in his database, particularly with station affiliations. As the article is for a non-notable station, I am nominating it again for deletion. --dhett 20:34, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] your user name in Arab Canadians category

Hello

I'm not sure you're aware of this, but your user name shows up in [:Category:Arab_Canadians|Arab Canadians] category page. As you probably know, such categories are reserved for Wikipedia articles. I believe that categories for Wikipedians are seperate (in this case, you could useCategory:Arab Canadian Wikipedians instead), though I'm not sure if one can simply create a category or not. --Inahet 17:49, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Derivative highways

The definition in the category of derivative highways does not state that it includes highways that closely follow the same route of another highway, like the one's you listed. -- Earl Andrew - talk 01:46, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

That's not what the defintion states though. From what I gather, it generally means if a highway number comes from another highway number. i.e., it derives from it. -- Earl Andrew - talk 01:51, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, I'm not confident on whether or not the definition listed is the actual definition for derivative highways, but as it stands, it does not mention anything about highways that have similar paths to others. -- Earl Andrew - talk 01:55, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
If you're certain that's what the actual defenition pertains to. -- Earl Andrew - talk 02:01, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Global highway

I guess my issue with the article is that it's too broad in scope, too vague about details, and fails to cite credible sources. When I read the article, I get the sense that there's never been any serious discussion about a proposal to link all the continents, and that the article is pure speculation. While I doubt the subject is worthy of an article, I would suggest splitting it into sections discussing each individual place where a fixed link has been built, or is proposed, with focus on logistics and the likelyhood of each. I would add sections on the 2 existing long distance Danish bridges, the Fehmarn Belt bridge, the Sicilian bridge, King Fahd Causeway, Qatar–Bahrain Friendship Bridge, Alaska highway (and proposals to link Nome by road), Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, the Java-Sumatra link proposals, and other relevant fixed links and proposals in addition to those already mentioned in the article. Finally, the article as it now stands needs to be cleaned up to have a more formal style, and corrected for spelling and grammar. Cheers. --Alcuin 21:42, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Wow, you've done a lot in such a short amount of time. Looks great, but be careful with accuracy (the Fehmarn Bridge isn't built yet). I think that Cosmopolitan Railway should perhaps be merged into Global highway since they are conceptually similar (it was the predominant technology, not the idea that changed). Plus, since the proponent of the railway was a US governor, it would lend more notability to the idea of a global transportation network. Anyway, nice work, and I plan to help expand it soon. I like the way you've got it shaping up. It'll be a nice jumping off point to articles about recent and future engineering marvels. --Alcuin 00:41, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hilton Windsor

I have proposed this article for deletion; I also proposed the article on the Radisson for deletion, and (if you are interested) the entire category on "Churches in Windsor" and its contents. And a student organization and the student newspaper, which should be covered in the university article. I think these all fail to meet WP:Notability and also are basically directory entries, which Wikipedia is specifically not. If you disagree, please feel free to remove the "prod" tags and improve the articles to help show notability, or else argue on the talk pages that they are fine the way they are. --Brianyoumans 02:23, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

  • How do you feel about the Radisson? If you want to keep that one too, I will AFD them both. If not, I can run the Hilton by itself. BTW: If you look at the Hilton Hotels article, you will see that there are very few "notable" Hiltons listed there. Do you really think the Windsor Hilton is that notable? One Hilton is kind of like another, mostly, I think. Brianyoumans 03:03, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Well, perhaps the article should be on the hole, and the controversy around it? I think an article on a local political controversy in a large city would be fine. --Brianyoumans 03:34, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of United States over-the-air television networks

I pulled the Spanish-language and Bloomberg listings from the tables, as they are not broadcast networks in the U.S. If they do have terrestrial affiliates, we can put them back up, and note as such, but to have them listed with blanks in the number of stations column is not a good thing, given the nature (and sheer size) of this list. --Mhking 18:49, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

That's cool - sounds good. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, just trying to keep the thing from becoming even more unwieldly than it already is...--Mhking 18:54, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Following on, it looks like HITN is only on cable and satellite (they note this on their site at http://www.hitn.org/getting_hitn_en.php ). I don't see Bloomberg on the page you note, and at first glance, it doesn't look like HTV notes any local channels on their website (with my pidgin Spanish). --Mhking 01:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Edmonton Tornado

Sorry to take so long to answer your message. I've had to remove the Edmonton tornado, mainly because the tornado did not directly cause damage to the downtown core. While the twister came no closer than about 5 km from downtown, this is still quite a distance from the east edge of the central business district at 97 Street. And according to the article List of tornadoes striking downtown areas, suburbs do not count even within city limits. The effects of even an F4/F5 tornado is fairly localized even at its peak. The Edmonton Tornado was no different and damage from the tornado was not recorded in the downtown core or even in the suburban areas immediately east of the CBD, so it shouldn't be re-added. The CBD got just heavy rainfall and hail at the time of the tornado and so these are not direct effects of a tornado. NorthernFire 20:28, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: -verts

Sorry for the reverts, but it's mainly to keep things clean. In your listings for US channels in the MTL and Quebec City templates, it's unnecessary, as there are already links to the appropriate US markets. As for digital subchannels -- listing all of them in the infoboxes and the market templates are cumbersome and unwieldly; better off just listing them in the "meat" of the article itself. -- azumanga 05:26, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

Just as a reminder, please don't apply redundant categorization to articles. That is, Category:Ontario county roads is already a subcategory of both Category:Ontario roads and Category:County roads. Category:Ontario roads is already a subcategory of Category:Roads in Canada and Category:Transportation in Ontario, etc. So an Ontario county road should only be filed in Category:Ontario county roads, not in all five of those categories simultaneously. Bearcat 02:09, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

No worries. Looks like a pretty big job you're taking on there. Wowza. (Made a few corrections and changes to the Sudbury list, btw; they're actually designated as Municipal Roads or MRs there, since there's only one municipality and no county.) Bearcat 02:40, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Ontario county numbered roads

Shouldn't the Naming Conventions section be in the talk page rather than the article page? Advice on how to create articles may confuse non-editors who merely read WP articles. Dl2000 00:23, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ontario County Roads

I strongly disapprove the fact that you moved the original list of county roads into something like: Essex County, Ontario roads. This is because these county roads DOES NOT belong to the Ontario government (They belong to the counties since the counties pay for the roads' expenses), and should not name under Ontario. The title is misleading. Please further discuss the details of this issue with me.

P.S. I appreciate your enthusiasm of making Wikipedia a better encyclopedia.

Hi, RacoonFox. I stumbled upon your userpage via werewolf's. I just wanted to say hello, and tell you how much I enjoyed reading all of your information. I'm not quite sure why you added the communities you did under "Other Major Communities" in this template. Dease Lake, with a population of a few hundred, hardly counts as a major community, for example. Fishhead64 07:54, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

To add yourself to the category just add the userbox to your user page by putting {{Wiki Auto Project}} where you want the userbox. Alternatively if you don't like the userbox you can add [[Category:WikiProject Automobiles members|RaccoonFox]] to your userpage.

If you no longer wish to be a member of the project, simply don't add the userbox or category, there's no pressure. Thanks for your time, James086Talk | Contribs 04:19, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Ignore my revert, it was an accident. --Sopoforic 04:19, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

I wouldn't put any other links to downloads, but that one should be fine. I just misread it when I hit revert, that's all. --Sopoforic 04:29, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your sig

It's so freakin' huge!!!! :-P I'm fine with the color scheme, but can you make it a little bit shorter? Thanks in advance. Nishkid64 01:24, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your sig

Well, I think the coding and the actual length are both problems here. Can you try removing "The Legendary Raccoon Fox:" and possibly use smaller font? Thanks. Nishkid64 20:47, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] TV Templates

First of all -- the main reason I've reversed some of your template changes is that I feel they are unnecessary and superfluous -- they practically add nothing, and some of the added features are unnecessary.

Second -- the new template design interferes with the infoboxes -- they literally overlap them, due to coding. I hope you understand. -- azumanga 04:22, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sonic Movie.

I've noticed that you intend to constantly edit info on a Sonic SatAM movie into the Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) article. Please stop this. You are failing to cite references, and the tone is very gossipy. Though Rich maybe just a multimedia specialist thats done graphic design and directed music videos for local indie bands, his idea of a sonic movie is still possible, but not absolute. Until SEGA announces it, or a popular film resource like Variety makes mention of actual production, it's not welcome in the article.

Further more, Wiki isn't here to spread rumors on movies that aren't even in pre-production. He hasn't even presented the idea in full to SEGA, and the American department. This is not article worthy in any way/shape/form. Please stop posting it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Special:Contributions/farck11 (talk) 00:53, 27 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] NDP

Hope you don't mind but I replaced the manual userbox for the NDP on your About page with a nearly identical one from my userspace (the only difference is that mine, which was copied from another one just before the great userbox purge, says "New Democratic Party *of Canada*". If you don't like the way it looks, feel free to revert. :) Good page by the way! Orderinchaos78 07:41, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, RingtailedFox! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but please note that the link you added in is on my spam blacklist and should not be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an Imageshack or Photobucket image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was genuine spam, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 22:19, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Please stop adding inappropriate links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and will be removed. Thanks. Shadowbot 22:28, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HTML

You've been adding a bunch of HTML blank lines to pages. HTML should only be used when needed—see WP:MOS—and, in this case, it isn't needed. Just use two blank lines if you want more space between the end of the article and the boxes. --Walor 00:44, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

As I already explained, none of it is needed. Unneeded HTML gets deleted, i.e. everything you've spent all that time adding will be reverted. --Walor 03:22, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:KTLA logo colour.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

[edit] Re: KTLA logos

I'm just curious as to why you're removing KTLA's icons from the past... they're the legitimate logos from the station, and they are fair-use as they are low-resolution, and do not infringe upon any copyrights, as i've listed the sources for both.

Well, one picture is nothing more than another variation of the 1981 logo, and the other "cable/satellite" logo is one that I'm sure has never been used on the air (and if it has was never widely used). As some admins are looking to purge all "fair-use" images from television station articles, I felt the best way to keep the bloodletting at a minimum would be to remove the redundancy ourselves. Hense, the 1989 picture, which is basically the same from '81, and the cable pic were deleted from the page. Let's keep the pertinent logos in the article, and not two or three versions of the same thing -- even with different backgrounds. Rollosmokes 09:17, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
And, wouldn't ya know? A Man in Black has taken all the images -- including the ones I incoporated into the text itself -- from the article. Here we go again. Rollosmokes 09:19, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding "Communications in St.-Pierre et Miquelon"

According to the WRTH, RFO in St.-Pierre & Miquelon exclusively uses the SECAM-K1 standard like all other French DOM-TOMs. Why they were not allowed to use the SECAM-L standard that Metropolitan France has is beyond me, but since RFO is the only television broadcaster in the whole territory, then why would RFO use PAL, as you placed in the Communications in Saint Pierre and Miquelon article? They don't. -Daniel Blanchette 21:06, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Harassment

Alright. Trolls are against policy. Follow the instructions at WP:U and report him. But remember that removing content from user pages, unless its your own, is also against policy. I am going to have to revert your edits to his user page, but consider reporting him. Wikipedian27 22:48, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Don't steal information without crediting, and you won't get harassed. Seems reasonable no? I spend a lot of time to create the information that I do, and it disgusts me to see it blatantly stolen without the decency to even reference the text. This text MUST NOT be reinstated! --Sonysnob 00:17, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Its not properly referenced, and was copied and pasted with words added. My website is not public domain, and while I really don't care what you place on this website, it must not come from my website.

Furthermore, there is no need to resort to childish name calling, and it looks like we might just have a revert war on our hands.--Sonysnob 01:18, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Assistance

Why did you delete my request for help? RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 02:35, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Did you see the header at the top of the page? Besides, you cross-posted it. No need to clutter a talk page that's for "discussion of the guideline" not claims of harassment. Your post at Wikipedia:Village pump (assistance) should suffice, but you might also consider WP:AN/I. -- Scientizzle 02:50, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

I am not refusing to listen to anything. The content was taken without my permission, and I am reacting accordingly. Unlike Wikipedia, I take Copyright violations seriously. I am most pleased that you will no longer be visiting the website in the future. I was planning on blocking you from visiting anyways. Your name will be quickly removed, and should the same thing happen again here, I will be more careful with its spelling.--Sonysnob 03:05, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

I find that unlikely, as i don't contribute to your website, and i don't take anything from it. you do NOT own a road or information in the public domain. I wonder what type of banning tools you even have, anyway. Now, we can be civil and discuss it on Talk:Highway 401 (Ontario)#Constant_reverting if you wish. [edit] Highway 401 (Ontario) multiple reverts

Warning

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly, as you are doing in Highway 401 (Ontario). If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. Dl2000 03:25, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Why would I want you to keep visiting? Look at where it has gotten me thus far. You have basically stolen something from my website, and I don't want to happen again. When you research an article, if you are to reproduce something, the reproduction should be unrecognizable from the original. The facts will of course be the same, but the rest should be rewritten from scratch, otherwise you have committed plagiarism. I am aware you added and rearranged some text, however, the bulk of your addition was still copied and pasted from my website, and therefore written by me. Furthermore, while a link was included to the source at the end of the paragraph, it was not properly referenced at the bottom in the references section, as cited text should be.

Herein lies the problem with Wikipedia, it is you who has used content inappropriately from me, and now just to get plagerized material off the internet I have to fight with you, who has has called me a vandal, and screamed harassment, while all the time using childish insults. The insults must stop, or I will be forced to take decisive action on the OntHighways.com website itself.

I trust this will end the dispute.

--Sonysnob 14:26, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

How in the world is something that is publically available from the MTO and re-worded on your website somehow copyright infringement against you? Your website does NOT contain original works, it contains re-worked and (hopefully) cited information from the MTO and other sources. If we use your same argument, I must ask - how dare you infringe on the MTO's copyright! Dude, this information is in the public domain. The protections that allow you to post it on your website also protect other users from posting them on Wikipedia. A reference was made, this is sufficient according to Wikipedia's copyright policy. If you continually revert the 401 page, I trust users other than myself will take whatever action is necessary to prevent your vandalism. Snickerdo 18:10, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't think that you get it. I am not plagiarizing anything. I went out took photographs, researched the construction, went to public meetings and did a write up about the status of the construction. I have a sources page on my website, that details where I get information. You are of course allowed to do this as well. What you are not allowed to do is to copy and paste peoples work and call it your own. Yes, I realize that you added words and rearranged some wordings, however, this still constitutes plagiarism. To not plagiarize somebody's work, you need to put the facts read into your own words. This has not been done, as although the text has been altered, it still is not entirely your own words, which again constitutes plagiarism. The solution to this is simple, either directly quote all of the text taken from the website, and reference it PROPERLY, or re-write the article, and again properly reference just the facts. If this were argument were being held in an educational institution not only would you not get credited for your research, but this type of theft would be grounds from dismissal from an post secondary institution. --Sonysnob 19:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

That's good and all that you took the photographs. I have not uploaded a single photograph or directly cut-and-paste from your page. We also never said we were plagiarizing as we sourced and REWORDED your information, AS YOU ASKED US TO. i've come to believe you just don't want anything that seems similar to your website to be on wikipedia. If we were to play by your rules, then you would be expelled as well. You dismiss every argument that is not your own. So, basically...anything that seems similar to your website is plagiarism. To be honest, i don't even know what you want. You can claim copyright violation all you want, but it's not a copyright violation. you can point at a chicken and say it's a duck all you want, but that will never make it a duck. RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 20:28, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad to hear you've brought this to arbitration. I think we need to have Sonysnob blocked until the final outcome has been decided, as well. He is clearly violating the warnings given about reverting the page. Snickerdo 20:52, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Copyvio

Since subtlety is apparently lost here:

I am hereby informing you, in my official capacity as an administrator, that, in my judgement, the material in question constitutes a copyright violation. I have therefore removed it from the article. Further, I will enforce this removal by blocking any editor that attempts to reinsert the material or a substantially identical version. Kirill Lokshin 04:36, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

All I want is for you to not add any material that violates someone's copyright. This means that you can't add any text—not even a single sentence—that's copied, word-for-word, from some copyrighted source (unless you're quoting it directly, of course). If you're rewording, you need to do it so properly; simply changing a few words or sentences but leaving chunks of the original text is not sufficient. Kirill Lokshin 04:48, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Please do. The idea is to present the same facts, but to do so in a completely different manner; so don't just settle for changing the wording, but go for more substantial changes (rearranging and restructuring sentences and clauses, etc.) as well. Kirill Lokshin 04:56, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Highway 401 Proposal

Well, the added material is quite nice, but it's not really fixing the core of the problem that well:

In the late Fall of 2005, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario started a construction project to upgrade the current 4-lane section of Highway 401 from 4- to 6-lanes from west of Oxford County Road 3 to west of Waterloo Regional Road 97 (where the next 6-lane concrete-divded road begins) in the County of Oxford and Regional Municipality of Waterloo.
This is currently part of the last 4-laned section between London and Toronto (stretching from Highway 403 Interchange in Woodstock, Ontario to Waterloo Road 97 in Kitchener, Ontario), but is being upgraded to 6 lanes plus an Ontario tall-wall barrier in the median. This is the first stage of upgrades of this final 4-lane section.
Aside from the addition of one lane per direction and a tall-wall barrier, two emergency onramp accesses that are intended to be used only during emergency highway closures and other such incidents have been constructed. These emergency accesses are the first of their kind on an Ontario freeway, and have been constructed in the vicinity of both Oxford Road 3, and Trussler Road.
Other emergency accesses have been built in Essex County where the road was recently widened from 4 to 6 lanes, but these are gravel, and all are alongside overpasses, for use by ambulances, firetrucks, and police cars in emergencies only.

The idea is to transform the text to the point where the original's wording isn't blatantly recognizable; here, you've still got an entire sentence, and a quite recognizable clause (neither of which are particularly difficult to completely reword). Kirill Lokshin 07:40, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Coincidence at tornado records

I tried to start discussion on the talk page but since you seem to have missed it I'll bring the discussion here. I have several issues with the "Tornado of the Elevens" going on the records page.

  1. I fail to see how a single tornado occurring at a specific date and time is a "spectacular" coincidence. I'm sure if you look hard enough you could find one at 12:34 on 5/6 of one year...it's just not that "spectacular" of an occurrance. Plus, it was 11:11 PM, which is 23:11 in many countries.
  2. Emphasis on the single tornado. While the other note about Codell is extremely rare (even a town being hit 3 times in recorded history is very unusual), this was one tornado which struck at a certain time.
  3. What does the 11:11 mean, anyway? I highly doubt the tornado lasted for less than a minute, so what happened at 11:11? Did it touch down? First start producing damage? Reach the center of town? It just seems very ambiguous to just pull this specific minute out of an event that undoubtedly spanned several minutes.

I'd like to hear back from you so we can come to a comprimise (or understanding) -RunningOnBrains 05:30, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Who Framed Roger Rabbit sectional neutrality

I don't have any problem with the article having an Anachronisms section. The problem is that it isn't written in a neutral point-of-view tone. The general tone of the section indicates commentary rather than objective fact explaining. Wikipedia is not a place for commentary pieces or reviews. Phrases such as "With this in mind, several anachronistic errors are easily spotted." and "The appearance of post-1947 Toons can be explained..." doesn't really allow the viewer to simply look at the facts and decide for themselves why these anachronisms may exist. It isn't the article's purpose to lay out a framework as to the reasons for a movie (or other fictional work) having particular anachronisms. Wording such as "An error that could not be justified..." is a blatant infusion of biased passive-voice wording regarding what the writer thinks is a particular anachronistic error. This isn't the proper way to write such a section and it needs to be cleaned up. Bumm13 03:12, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi RingtailedFox,

I am Smcafirst, remember me? Your good partner at WP:GHR? Well, while you were not here, we expanded the project quite a lot, and my user account expanded too. Why didn't you tell me when you return to Wikipedia? I would like to invite you back to our WikiProject. And I recruited numerous members, the project grew to about 13 active members, 2 pending members, and 1 inactive member (which is RaccoonFox, maybe you). Please reply at my talk page. [edit] County Road Shields and Welcome back!

Hi RingtailedFox,

Well, while you left, many things happened, it's hard for me to explain everything. It's kind of a long story. First, I was attempting to create those road shields using Arial font (how stupid am I?). Then, I met Ilovevancouver90909, a good helper of mine (I actually met him in real life!), and he taught me how to make those road signs. We then started to create a lot of articles on Roads in Markham, and York Regional Roads, and Simcoe County Roads. Ilovevancouver90909 made the York Regional Road shields (which are way better than mine), and I made some of the Simcoe County Road shield, and I will be restarting them soon.

Later, I met Nhl4hamilton, another good helper, he is so proficient and tireless of making Hamilton-related articles, that I rewarded him a barnstar (and he rewarded me one too), and then we are currently working on expanding the project, and eventually (planned for summer 07), we will include everything in the Golden Horseshoe, everything from roads to communities to landmarks! And planned for winter 08-09, we might expand the project to WikiProject Quebec City-Windsor Corridor, and that will make us very busy!

Then, I met another person (I don't want to type it out, it's very long), and we started the OUTREACH department! We were planning to make newsletter and all kinds of stuff, but we simply have no time at all!

Anyway, welcome back!

[edit] Your edit at County Road 8 (Essex County, Ontario)

Hi RingtailedFox,

This reminds me of the old times, when we argue which is the correct title. Well, here it comes again. I think it would be a better title if it is Essex County Road 8, Ontario or simply Essex County Road 8. This would make it more uniform, like I had did with other County/Regional Roads. What do you think?

[edit] County/Regional Road Shields

Yea, there is a template that I made that I work with. Just steal one of them and delete the numbers and the region/county name. Remember that the road shields have the word COUNTY/REGION at the TOP and the county/region name on the BOTTOM. Don't ask me why. :)

It is "Hit the Road" size 72 for the REGION and YORK. You can download the font at http://dafont.com and search "Hit the Road". The number is Hit the Road size 200. (if it doesn't fit, make the font smaller or stretch the shield sideways.

I'm sorry, but I've got almost no idea what your talking about. Did I delete something, or vote on something, or something? -Royalguard11(Talk·Review Me!) 02:23, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

The category was listed at WP:CSD under G4 (reposts of xFD deleted material). The pertinent discussion was at Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_December_5#Ontario_county_roads_subcategories back in December, with the decision to put all the articles into Category:Ontario county roads instead of having smaller categories. I'm not sure what (if anything) has changed since then, but the best place to discuss it would probably be Wikipedia:WikiProject Ontario Highways (which I see you're part of already) or with Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Roads even (I see you're a part of that too). If something has changed with the categorization, then feel free to recreate it if that is what people have decided. I was just following CSD (yes I know, bad defence, but I didn't know any other information at the time). -Royalguard11(Talk·Review Me!) 02:48, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

After your edits, {{NB Expressways}}, {{NS 100 Hwys}}, {{Quebec Autoroutes}} don't display properly when collapsed (hit the hide button, or check out List of Canadian highways by province to see how it's rendered in an article). Could you please fix that. Thanks. --Qyd 15:54, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm afraid that an extra break doesn't solve anything: the big text 'Expressways and Freeways still leaks out of the navbox when it's collapsed. It's probably beacause the said text, along with the acompaning html tags, are placed outside the NavContent div. Well, that navbox looks like a christmas tree anyway, with all the images within tables within tables within div's within html tags, etc... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Qyd (talkcontribs)
The big titles were showing because they were inside NavHead, and RingtailedFox has been moving them back to NavContent, which is the div that gets hidden. If you are interested, Qyd, I've made some comments about these templates on my talk page. –Pomte 04:09, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Network logos in infobox

I've reverted your addition of the NBC and NBC Weather Plus logos to the infobox for WDIV-TV. The reason I did so is that I'm concerned it may violate our eighth fair use criterion; I don't think the logos (which are fair use) contribute much to the article. You may wish to look at the WP:FLAG essay as well; adding network logos to infoboxes in general appears to be fairly related to overuse of flags in articles. I just wanted to make you aware of this for future reference. Thank you for your understanding. --WCQuidditch 00:15, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

For the record, this also concerns WJBK and possibly others as well. --WCQuidditch 00:19, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
That's quite all right. It's often easy to assume from seeing other articles what seems to be an acceptable practice, even if it doesn't quite mesh with policies. I can't really blame you on this one. --WCQuidditch 14:04, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

Just a reminder to please not apply duplicate categorization to articles. If Ruthven, Ontario can be filed in Category:Communities in Essex County, Ontario, then it doesn't also go into Category:Essex County, Ontario at the same time; if Huron Church Road can be filed in Category:Streets in Windsor, Ontario, then it doesn't also go into Category:Windsor, Ontario, Category:Essex County, Ontario or Category:Roads in Ontario. We only apply the most specific appropriate category from any given tree, not every category. Bearcat 01:18, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of notable Atlantic hurricanes

The Angola system has never officially been proven tropical, has it? As for Costa Rica, the information is unsourced. – Chacor 16:43, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

And arguably this shouldn't count as landfall. Arguably. I'd personally not count it as landfall, but meh. – Chacor 16:45, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Joan - probably not, since it was a crossover storm and is already listed in the article. – Chacor 16:57, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, yes, and I would personally not have Hazel in. I'm off to bed now. – Chacor 17:08, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi,
You expressed an interest some time ago about making Snowball Earth into a Good Article. If you're still interested in helping out, I've posted a to-do list of things that need to be done - if real life's not taking too much of your time!
Feel free to come over and have an edit or two!

[edit] Radio templates

We're supposed to be using the {{NavigationBox}} template to build radio navboxes, not direct HTML coding. Bearcat 06:20, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

No worries. They don't communicate new stuff around here very well sometimes. Bearcat 14:44, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edits

Hello. I just want to confirm that you've made some edits to the article on Parents and the associated talk page. I say this b/c you do mention that your account has been hacked in the past and these edits seem out of character compared with the rest of your contributions. Thanks. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Cogeco television.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Cogeco television.jpg.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:29, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, RingtailedFox. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Fang the sniper.gif) was found at the following location: User:RingtailedFox/Fang the Sniper. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 03:24, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:GreatLakesCircleTour.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:GreatLakesCircleTour.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:ATV.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:ATV.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:ATV.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:ATV.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:08, 16 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading Image:LakeErieCircleTour.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] "Coon"

Hi, could you please avoid using the colloquial short form of racoon, "coon", in your writings? As an African-American I find the term offensive. As a member of another persecuted group, I hope that you will understand.

Thanks, Jamal Muhammed-Ali Smith

coon's a racial slur? are you serious? i didn't even know! i'm sorry! i'll try to avoid using that word now. thanks for letting me know. RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 12:59, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:BuckeyeCableSportsNetwork.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:BuckeyeCableSportsNetwork.gif. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 13:33, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:CKLW-TV-1969.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:CBET-TV-1978.jpg. The copy called Image:CBET-TV-1978.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 03:47, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright problems with Image:Highway 401 18 lanes.jpg

An image that you uploaded, Image:Highway 401 18 lanes.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 16:49, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

I see that you've removed the violation tag, but added no information to clarify the image's status. It is listed as all rights reserved on flickr and you have neither claimed to be the photographer yourself nor indicated that you have a release under the GFDL from the photographer. I am going to delete the image as a copyright violation. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 16:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

I think you've been mislead. The original upload of the image that's since been deleted was removed because it was also incorrectly tagged and infringing. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 17:04, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tnavbar-navframe in navboxes

I've notice that you've been using a custom version of tnavbar on the navboxes you have been converting, it is recommend to use {{tnavbar-navframe}} as it will automatically update with any code changes. Additionally, I'd recommend greater use of CSS attributes as Wikipedia's has been moving toward XHTML/CSS. Finally, I should also point out that using NavFrames in conjunction with tables which defeats the main point of using it, which is to a semantic layout without tables. [edit] Spam in Colasanti's Tropical Gardens

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Colasanti's Tropical Gardens, by Imasleepviking, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Colasanti's Tropical Gardens is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Colasanti's Tropical Gardens, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Colasanti's Tropical Gardens itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:34, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] About the County Road Templates

Hi RingtailedFox,

It's me again, Smcafirst! I hope you remember me! As you know, we have started to create county/regional/city road templates for the past --- um, I don't know, maybe a few months --- or so. At the bottom, we have listed a bunch of other Canadian Cities who has a road template. Well, to this date, there are already 10 of them (York Region, Chatham-Kent, Montreal, Markham, Mississauga, Windsor, Essex County, Hamilton, Peel Region, etc.) , and adding cities' names to all of them could be a pain in the neck.

I've got a solution:

Everytime you add a city, you directly add it to Template:Roads in Canadian Cities, and that would automatically add your city name to all 10 other templates. Good idea, eh? I still have some glitches to figure out, though.

Thanks again!

[edit] Neighborhoods in Detroit, Michigan & Foxtown

You need some reliable sources that verify the term and borders you've posted there. Simply asserting that local channels use the term isn't quite enough.--Isotope23 18:10, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, or news stories/books/websites, etc where the term appears and the neighborhood is defined. I know it is a real term used for that area of downtown Detroit, but sources will stop it from being deemed original research and being removed from the article. I'll poke around and see if I can find any sources as well.--Isotope23 18:19, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Absolutely... just add http://www.visitdetroit.com/linclude/maps/fox_town.pdf to external links...--Isotope23 18:30, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:GHR Update

Enclosed is a map of census divisions (so, counties/ regions / cities), and colour coded to show how are we doing in different parts of the Golden Horseshoe, and how much articles are written. Over the summer, I will create another similar one. The white parts of the map means that we will start to work on these areas, after the expansion of the project. (So, that is, after the creation of WP:QCWC (WikiProject Quebec City-Windsor Corridor).

[edit] Highway 6

Hi RingtailedFox,

I am planning in "upgrading" Hiughway 6 to a good article status. I have major overhaul the article's information, and I just need to know something before I even nominate it. Do you know if there is an election promise of upgrading the entire length of Highway 10 to a 400-series highways (note: I need to know this because Highway 6 is concurrent with Highway 10 for 13 km north of Chatsworth), I don't want to nominate this article if this fact is not clarified by a reference. I also don't want to get cream with negative comments, like I did, when I nominate Toronto as a featured article, just because I did not review it very carefully. So please, verify this fact for me, and give me any comments, positive, neutral, negative, whatever, just give a shot, and tell me if Highway 6 is finally good enough for a good article nomination.

[edit] Ontario provincial highways template

Hi RingtailedFox,

Sorry to bother you again, one message after another. I've seen your "edit summary" when you edited the template, and added "Northern Resource Trail". I've notice you saying something like "How can we show the decommissioned highways now?" I think I have a solution: Just italics the decommissioned highway numbers, and then, just give a note at the bottom of the template, stating that italics mean decommissioned. I might find a chance to do this after your approval (your comments are precious to me), but I might not have time to do it, since I have to take care of Toronto's FA nomination, so if you can't wait for me, just do it!

[edit] Your template

Would you mind tagging Template:RingtailedFox/Directing_Buttons with a {{db-author}} tag (after changing all transclusions to your userspace version) so that it can be deleted without having to go through a TfD? I don't know if you saw the whole discussion on WP:RFPP, so here it is:

Semi-protect. Vandalism from IP addresses on both this page, and the User:RingtailedFox/Directing_Buttons page, to conform with the rest of my pages being semi-protected from vandalism. All my pages have seen a total halt of vandalism once under semi-protection, so i'm requestion Semi-protect for these two pages as well The reason i have both a user page and a template page is that the user sub-page acts as a redirect. RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 23:51, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Note: I wasn't aware that users are allowed to have personal material in the templace namespace, is this kosher? Riana 02:36, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is "kosher" and i was told it was allowed, since it's a template to help guide people around my pages, instead of having the same code beign repeated in many areas. it would be a pain in the bum to have to synchronize and edit ALL the pages involved if it were that way. RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 23:55, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't quite understand. There is no redirect page, they are exactly identical. Why do you need both pages? Mr.Z-mantalk¢ 01:26, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Note: You can't have this in the template namespace. You can do what I do and have something in your own userspace, like this, and transclude from there. The template namespace is for things that can be used in articles and such, not just for one user's benefit. ~ Riana 02:19, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Declined per the above. This shouldn't be in template userspace. Templates almost always contain information pertitent to the encylopedia only. For example, the German userbox solution was created to move most userboxes unrelated to Wikipedia out of template space and into user space. --Deskana (talk) 04:35, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:ONThighways

Hi RingtailedFox,

Sorry if I haven't reply for so long. I am currently nominating Highway 6 (Ontario) for peer review, and Toronto for FA (which I believe will fail).

For the recycled number, I am sure it only applies onto only a few Ontario Provincial Highways. If I were you, I won't even worry about it. However, if you really want to state this "recycled number" fact, I could suggest a solution of putting a symbol (such as †) beside, say, Highway 77, and kind of explain it at the bottom (I am getting worried sick... The bottom would be crowded so badly...)

[edit] Template addition to certain articles

Hi RingtailedFox,

Regarding the highways template, I have placed {{ONThighways}} in List of Canadian highways by province, and I have fixed the "state" for most of the road navigational template, from "auto" to "autocollapsed", so that there would not be a "template overcrowding" at the 400-series highways, since these highways have 2 or more templates (Highway 400 has 4). This also helps to "blend" the templates in quite well in the article List of Canadian highways by province.

{{ONThighways}} template: I have added some more parameters on it, including a "see also" section. Please check it over, and fix it whatever way you want to.

In addition, I have edited County roads in Ontario. In the article, I have added county road templates (all templates are collapsed, of course), and also related road shields. Please also fix it whatever way you want to.

[edit] Emporis.com Infringement

I've contact you concerning this before, but I notice that you've not made a concerted effort to put the "facts" for pages you've made on Detroit buildings into your own words, rather copying the facts straight from Emporis.com, many of which I wrote for that site. Unless you make a real and honest effort to go through, as often as you can, your building pages to change these facts into your own words, they will be deleted for blatant copyright infringement. This is such a shame, and it looks like the problem is even bigger than you know. --Criticalthinker 05:37, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Although it's been a while since you did this, I just thought I should let you know since you made the same edit a number of times on different articles — the category Category:Environmental Protection Agency is not a general catchall category for all environmental agencies, but a specific category for the United States Environmental Protection Agency. [edit] Template:ONThighways

Hi RingtailedFox,

I noticed that you have recently fixed the style of the template -- ONThighways, and I am grateful you have done so. It looked so good right npw, with only one exception. The 7051 sign does not look natural at all [awkward...that's what I meant] (what I mean by natural is that, the green box is way too large, could you try to resize it? I am not good with HTML codings, so I don't know how to handle it). Alternatively, you can upload an exact image like this. Or I can do that for you, it's not too hard when you do this on Paint. Thanks a lot for your contribs at ONThighways. And of course, I would not revert your changes.

[edit] Templates

The main issue, as I see it, is with making the templates do too many things at once; they lose usefulness if they're too crowded with extraneous detail about things that are only indirectly connected. Which is also why I'm not a fan of putting every individual market template on things like TVOntario or Télé-Québec — having nine or ten templates at the bottom of an article is just overload, and really doesn't add anything valuable to the article. [edit] A long message about Ontario Highways

Hi RingtailedFox,

Be prepared that this is going to be one long message.

First of all, I would like to comment on your work on Template:ONThighways, it is certainly much better than the one I did before. (Well, you might think I have tons and tons of comments). I'd recommend you that, on the template, that you actually italic the former highways and the highways that are COMPLETELY decommissioned, such as Highway 2, 400A, 401A, etc. For the recycled numbers, again, place a symbol like † on the template, and probably briefly explain it at the bottom of the template. Also, formatting on Highway 93 and Highway 94 links (The bullets) are improperly formatted (the bullet is on the next line, should be right beside Highway 93).

Next, about the "conflict" that was brought up while I was new in Wikipedia. (Remember the discussion, almost argument, we've had during December? Check your User talk:RingtailedFox/Archive 3#Ontario County Roads. I've thought of that last night, and probably I could suggest a solution to that. Even to this date, I still disapprove the fact that county roads categories are named like Essex County, Ontario Roads. How about this: we could name the category as Category:County Roads in Essex County, Ontario. I know the fact that you want to make the articles named Essex County, Ontario roads because you want to clarify to the readers of Wikipedia, that there are several Essex Counties (for example, one in Ontario and one in England). I suggest to rename the articles to something like, Essex County Road 8, Ontario. Well, you decide. I am focusing my work around the Golden Horseshoe more, so it won't matter to me as much as the titles formats. Just a sidenote: We don't have to make it this clear that Essex County Road 8 is in Ontario, there are probably no Wikipedians out there making Essex County Road 8 for other Essex Counties.

Last of all, regarding your recycled route problems. A very good suggestions you've got there (on my userpage). I like the ones listed below:

  • Highway xx (Ontario, Year-Year)
  • Highway xx A (Location, Ontario, Year-Year)

Under this circumstance, I think we should break out of our own Ontario Highway Projects "title style", formattings like Highway xx (Ontario), it would be more appropriate if we use the "old" style, like Ontario Provincial Highway xx (Location, Year-Year). I don't know about this, going against the Ontario Roads WikiProject. We should probably bring this up on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thanks a ton for your dedicated work with Ontario highways!

I told you this was going to be a long message!

 Smcafirst | Chat  at 14:57, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Good idea you have there, RingtailedFox! And a nice list you have started. About the decommissioned highways, starting a list like you did was probably the best idea. Though, on the template ONThighways, we could still italicize the decommissioned highways.
Regarding the County Roads, it would be much clearer if we use "<name> <type> Road <number> (Ontario)" I would go with this format IF, there is a similar county road out there in other provinces or in the states, or else, it's really no point of putting "Ontario" at the end of the title. The reason I like yours with the "Ontario" in brackets at the end because most of the highways articles we have now are in this format. Nhl4hamilton had done some work on these disambig. link. He puts the "suffix" (Hamilton, Ontario), at every road's name. I don't think that is necessary, and perhaps you could seek advice from him.
 Smcafirst | Chat  at 12:43, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
I am also thinking making a navigational template for Waterloo Region. What do you think? There are only 4 roads with a Wikipedia article right now.  Smcafirst | Chat  at 12:48, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
For your image names, I think it is acceptable for having a name "Ontario Highway xx". However, if you don't mind, I would suggest you to upload them again in "Ontario xx". You can find an administrator to delete all the wrongly-named shields. Having a uniform image names throughout makes everyone's job easier. If you want to leave it that way, that's fine too. Just notify everyone on the WikiProject Ontario Road's Base Page.  Smcafirst | Chat  at 17:00, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed Deletion for {{ONThighways}}

Hi RingtailedFox,

Some urgent stuff to tell you. I am quite sorry to say, that after you have put so much work into making {{ONThighways}}, the template is listed at WP:TFD. If you like, please voice your opinion at the template's entry.

They say the template is quite oversize and a "red link farm". Here is my propose for the future of the template. We will further downsize our template by splitting it into 4 smaller templates: "King's Highways" (For highways 1-148); "400-series highways" (which exist right now, for highways 400-451) ; "Secondary Highways" (for highways 502-673); "Tertiary Highways, 7000-series, and miscellaneous" (for highways 800-7273, plus Northern Ontario Resource Trail links). Note that all templates will have the "See also" section that is presented now in the ONThighways template. All of these will be started to be "under construction" after the template is deleted, or a "repeated" template will be done. Also, the master template (the Roads in Ontario template) is quite malformatted, could you fix it? And plus, do you think this idea is good? If it is approved by others, I will start to do some of these similar things with other provinces (MB highways is a large red link farm ; SK Highways is a big blob)

 Smcafirst | Chat  at 21:54, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Okay, they've deleted ONThighways. I want to re-create it. Should we re-build the template using the style I've used for {{Topics on Markham}}, or should we split the template into 4?
 Smcafirst | Chat  at 12:45, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
It spent me half-a-day just to rebuild 3 templates. The guy who deleted ONThighways also removed every trace of the ONThighways templates on every single Ontario Highway article. Take a look of what I did today:
Give any kind of comments you want, and feel free to change and edit anything.
I still think that the Secondary Highway template is kind of too long.
One more and last issue. Remember the master template that I created? The Roads in Ontario Cities. The template is increasing its size (not to a dangerous level yet, but certainly a notable milestone). It is now 3-lines long. I also changed some of its colour and stuff. In terms of the style, I will do some more work on it tomorrow. What I want to tell you could be also viewed at Template talk:Roads in Ontario Cities, keep your reply about this issue (and only this issue) there.
Thanks!

Our Ontario Highways Project is facing (and will undergo) a serious problem. The following messages, please do not take it as not assuming good faith of a particular user, but I think these messages should be address to you.

NE2 is a user on Wikipedia, and he/she, in particular, has been going against everything that we have done with Ontario Roads. First of all, he/she keeps on emptying our master templates, such as {{Roads in Ontario Cities}}, {{Roads in Nova Scotia Cities}}, you name it. If it's a master template, he'd remove it. I have noticed that you are "able" to semi-protect your talk page, so I think you can help this problem by protecting the pages (or think of another solution). Personally, I could not bear undoing his/her acts every single day. And I will not do that next week, since I would be going away to Bala, Ontario. His/Her acts are just ridiculous, and wasting my time.

Other than that, he/she has also messed with our infoboxes, which includes removing some of the major cities/ junctions, et cetera. Now this is not that a major problem, but I think this is notable enough for you to know.

Next, which bothers me the most, is that he/she is now listing {{Ontario King's Highways}} up for deletion. His/Her opinion, again is very ridiculous, saying that users could jump from highways to highways using {{Infobox Road}}. What good would Infobox Road do anyways?

I hope you can seriously consider my complaint, and think of something, so that the Ontario Road project would stop deteriorating. In other words, I think the Ontario Road project, now "fixed up" by NE2, is worse than before. NE2 is certainly doing things that are "removing" the hard works of our crew. Please help me and all other participants of Ontario Road project.

 Smcafirst | Chat  at 20:27, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

P.S. If you reply between September 11 and September 14, I will not reply you (I am very sorry of that), since I am away to Bala, Ontario. Try to reply ASAP. Thanks!

I have post a comment at NE2's talk page. Go and see. By the way, another user came in the discussion, saying : read WP:VAND before continuing. I am sorry, but I could not continue the discussion further. I have to start packing.
Waiting to here your good news when I am back!
I have "faith" in you,

I don't think so. You should read Wikipedia:Vandalism for starters. --NE2 00:13, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Locationgrid

A tag has been placed on Template:Locationgrid, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. [edit] Proposed deletion of Master Templates

Hi RingtailedFox,

Some urgent stuff to tell you. I am quite sorry to say, that after you and I have put so much work into making {{Roads in Ontario Cities}} , {{Roads of Quebec}}, {{Roads in Manitoba Cities}} , etc. are listed at WP:TFD. If you like, please voice your opinion at the template's entry.

They say the template is not useful, and not "lawful" to link templates to a template.

Urgent stuff, I've voiced my own opinion. Now it's up to you.

[edit] USRD Inactivity check and news report

Hello, RingtailedFox. We had a few urgent matters to communicate to you:

  1. Please update your information at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Participants, our new centralized participant list. Those who have not done so by October 20th will be removed.
  2. There are important discussions taking place at WT:USRD relating to whether WP:USRD, WP:HWY, or the state projects should hold the "power" in the roads projects.

[edit] CIVT-TV

Please understand that at no point in time did CIVT ever use its callsign as its on-air branding, or use a "CIVT/CTV" logo like the other O&Os did. To include the "CIVT/CTV" logo makes the article factually inaccurate, so please do not add it back to the article. If that means the "CIVT/CTV" logo will end up getting deleted because it's orphaned, then too bad. - Hinto 16:56, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

FYI the webmaster of that site didn't like the fact that the station used the "BC CTV" brand, so he devised his own unofficial "CIVT" logo. - Hinto 21:50, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:BlackburnRadiologo.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BlackburnRadiologo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] CTV/Citytv

There's no need to speculate about the "similarity" of their names being a "possible" reason for the CRTC denying CTV permission to acquire Citytv; that has nothing to do with it whatsoever. The reason starts and ends at the CRTC's concentration of media ownership rules; because Citytv operates exclusively in major markets where CTV already has O&O stations, CTVgm having both systems would have given it too high a market share. [edit] TV templates

Most Canadian television markets only have one or two of their own unique stations, with everything else being a market-crossing rebroadcaster that ends up with anywhere up to ten different market templates on a single article. Too many templates makes those articles look like unadulterated crap. As a general rule, if multiple templates contain almost the same information with one or two minor differences, they should be merged into one if at all possible — it's a lot less messy, and actually easier to maintain if there's only one template to monitor instead of a dozen.

The thing is, the context of Canadian television is very different from that of American television. Even some of the least populated states in the entire US have almost as many licensed television stations as Ontario or Quebec — American television stations, as a rule, don't broadcast simultaneously into three, four, five or ten distinct DMAs, so you just don't see American television stations ending up with five or six market templates on their articles. Two, maybe, but never five or six.

The entire state of Wyoming, for example, has fewer people than Winnipeg alone, and yet it still has at least two, and sometimes even three, distinct affiliates of every major American commercial network — whereas there's only one television station in the entire province of Manitoba that isn't licensed to Winnipeg itself. It's very much like the network templates — a typical American television network has over 200 affiliates, so network affiliates have to be split up somehow to be manageable, while no Canadian network has more than 30 distinct stations airing its programming and only one even has as many as 20. So we just don't need to organize those templates the same way as the Americans do — the number of stations we're dealing with doesn't require it.

In the distribution and ownership of television stations, Canadian television is actually far more like British or Australian television than it is American — a much smaller number of stations, mostly O&Os rather than affiliates, broadcast to vastly wider geographic areas than most American stations would ever even be allowed to by the FCC. The Canadian and American television industries just aren't all that similar once you get past the surface resemblances. So I just don't think we're obligated to organize things in the same way as the Americans do — it just doesn't suit the reality of Canadian television broadcasting. [edit] By the way...

Looks like a lot of work ahead of the Canadian media editing contingent in the next couple of days...the CRTC just gave the go-ahead to both Rogers/Citytv and Astral/Standard. Bearcat 19:52, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
