[edit] Wikipedia:Recent additions 145/History
Hi - I have an updated version of the DYK tool which addresses nearly all your recent comments. I've created a new history table, see Wikipedia:Recent additions 145/History. There's at least one anomaly I'm still chasing (Boosey & Hawkes). As usual, let me know if there's anything that looks like the tool should have caught. BTW - there are more multiple noms in Wikipedia:Recent additions 147/History than you noticed. I've added two more rows. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:15, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. Hopefully, the updated version of the DYK tool can catch the multiple noms (however they are configured). I'll try to keep an eye out for multiple credits, like this one. I'll get on Wikipedia:Recent additions 145/History and use this thread to post any comments. -- Jreferee t/c 14:05, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- The bot missed this nom Armed Forces (sports society) probably to the article name change. -- Jreferee t/c 17:08, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lakes
You know, I think all geographic features such as lakes are notable, however inadequate the article. You might want to restore Siltcoos Lake that you speedy-deleted, and mark it as a stub. DGG (talk) 01:36, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- I see that you've been working on this article, for which thanks; I was trying to find the right stub tab for it, or alternately find some sort of Oregon group and get them to take this on. But thanks for adding the cites, I think that will save it from any further speedy tags. I'll keep looking for a way to get someone to adopt it. Accounting4Taste:talk 01:59, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- Wow. You found the right stub, you found the right project, and faster than I could even get started; I can tell this article is in VERY good hands. Thanks again. Accounting4Taste:talk 02:01, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New pages patrol
After spending a long time on vandalism patrol I'm now trying New pages patrol. You reversed my db-bio nomination on Phil Williams (presenter) and that's fine. Even though I've read CSD, etc. It still takes experience to develop judgment. So I want to learn from my mistake on this one. Is there an objective criterion that I overlooked or is it just a judgment call? Is there any better way for me to learn the criteria and proper judgment except by being bold and continuing on patrol, making CSD calls as I see them? Could you please take a look at[1] and give me your opinion on the three articles I mention there? Thanks. Sbowers3 (talk) 02:00, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- Phil Williams (presenter) is on TV, so it seems enough importance/signifance. Another admin might have deleted it. Be bold. It's a team effort between those tagging and those deleting. If you tag it wrong and I see a different reason to speedy delete, I'll speedy delete if for the different reason. -- Jreferee t/c 02:05, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] You deleted my CheapAssMTA pages BEFORE I could finish the talk page
Why did you do that AFTER I put a HOLDON on the page??? You totally ignored Wikipedia protocol! User:arfon
- CheapAssMTA didn't have a holdon template on the page. I deleted it under CSD G11 Blatant advertisement masquerading as an article. See WikiSpam. It also could have been deleted under CSD A7 No reasonable assertion of importance/significance. -- Jreferee t/c 02:41, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] CSD A1 versus CSD A7
I nommed Airgunsmith for speedy delete per A1, and you deleted per A7. Did it qualify under both, or was I mistaken in my nom? Thanks, Mr Which??? 02:28, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- CSD A1 is for very short article with little or no context for the statements made. There seem to be enough context (although the time element was missing), although reasonable people could disagree. It qualified for A7. -- Jreferee t/c 02:36, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- So you don't feel that my gut feel of an A1 violation was wrong per se, but rather that it was a more clear example of an A7. Is that a fair read of your take? Mr Which??? 02:38, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD closures
Rather than tell me how wrong I was to close certain afd's maybe your time would be better spent dealing with the current afd backlog Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If my decisions were so wrong why haven't you re-opened them? RMHED (talk) 01:03, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Malayalam Miffed
I just got a little harsh with you on the Mappila Malayalam AfD. I researched every reference to that article, googled it 5 different ways and checked every link, researched it in outside biblio-sources, contacted a few people I know I Kerela both Indian and American that run orphanages there, and there is not one thing to substantiate that as a dialect in and of itself. It is being connected to Islam for some reason and some one on a the Malayalam page tried to create Buddhist Malayalam, Jewish Malayalam, Hindu Malayalam, etc. The primary contributor is confused along religious and ethnic lines and he is creating his own dialects and putting them Wiki. This is merely a case of someone making things up as original unacademic research in an area where a linguistics authority is needed.
I was a bit miffed that you posed that I censor my opinions and then I see that you are an established Admin. Not Kosher---Iconoclast.Horizon (talk) 19:57, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks!
Hey, thanks!!! :) Didn't know it got noticed... Anyways, I actually wanted to have YakBak in a crazy, colourful way, but my signature became toooo long to be acceptable. So I settled for yak. The concept got stuck in my head cos the band, Audio Adrenaline used to credit one of its members with actually doing the Yak-Bak on their records... Way too funky. :D aJCfreak yAk 21:45, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The NAS
Glad to see that the links to it are increasing! :) Acalamari 03:01, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, heh, good posting! I use my own userspace template, User:Acalamari/RFAcongratulations, to give to new admins, though I sometimes write a personal posting depending on the situation. My template gives them the Admins' T-shirt and a link to the school. Even if a new admin has been given more than one link to the school, I think that's a good sign because if more people recommend it, more people will visit the school. Good one for asking Deskana to include the school in his posting to new admins; I know that at least one bureaucrat, Warofdreams, includes a link to the school in his postings to new admins. Acalamari 17:17, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] RMHED
He has now switched from controversially closing AfDs to controversially tagging every episode in TV series (currently Heroes and Star Trek) with Notability tags. Is this user in need of a block to let him know that WP is not about making points to others based on our own personal opinions? Mr Which??? 16:29, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- If you think RMHED's actions meet Wikipedia:Disruptive editing, perhaps explain your reasoning to RMHED on his talk page. If that does not work, try Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. -- Jreferee t/c 17:09, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- I've tried on his talk. He's flippant and clear that he doesn't care what others think. As for AN/I, we're not admins, and I don't care to wade into that morass. I went to an admin that had interacted with him (you), after trying to discuss his actions at his talk page. Mr Which??? 17:18, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Generalized Ozaki cost function
Thx for your note on the above article. There about 289,000 "Google Scholar" hits for "cost function" but only 1 for "Ozaki cost function" (an article by the same author as for the "A Nonhomothetic Generalized Leontief Cost Function Based on Pooled Data" reference in the WP article). So, it does not seem to have enough scholarly attestation to survive a request for deletion of the article. Further, there is not even a "Cost function" article for WP. So, the above article would seem to have a very limited audience. Sorry. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 23:43, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I interacted with him early on, when he was screwing up while trying to keep his articles from being deleted. I came to the conclusion that he was a sincere, but truly frustrated newbie. I see that it has escalated pretty unpleasantly. I left him an offer to help, and I hope he will take it. You may not like me much, but you know that I'm a stickler for notability and proper sourcing. Kww (talk) 12:42, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- I try not to take a personal interest in any thing I do on Wikipedia and my interest in things usually only last about three days. This combination keeps me from generating bad feelings and/or holding grudges towards others. I have no bad feelings towards you and I see it as that we merely had a disgreement. Knicksfan4ever is new and his/her reaction is typical of someone used to contributing on the Internet in places outside of Wikipedia. Most people have a rocky start with the Wikiway. I'm sure Knicksfan4ever will do fine. -- Jreferee t/c 15:13, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you guys, you are correct with your assessments, I am a newbie trying to feel myself around and learn. I've been using wikipedia for about a year to do research on an array of subjects and found it to be helpful. Someone else created the article that was deleted and I found out about it, which is why I decided to join because I felt it was notable and I went through the proper channels to discuss, but instead of receiving help, it felt like I was being ganged up on. I was not trying to "wikistalk" or badger anyone, truly not the case. After receiving a response from the nominator I did some research and did notice that the edits that were made on certain pages, which made me come to the conclusion that it was personal, which is why I exchanged words (should I say text) with the person. I do agree it went a little too far and I may have let my natural human emotions get the best of me via the internet, especially about something I feel so passionately about. I do plan to correct the page along wikipedia's guidelines, I'm in the process of reading how it works, donate and have others donate to keep wikipedia going. It's a great tool!!! I just feel like everytime I make an edit to correct the page Lizz Robbins it will keep getting deleted, just like it was when I made the first edit. About “Justice as Fairness” and “Equity (Law)”. Rawls belongs in Philosophy of Law or Philosophy of Politics, not in Equity (Law).
Justice works by rules while equity works by discretion (two processes which are not mutually exclusive, more like interdependent). It is sort of like the duality of electricity and magnetism. You have some finite total energy to apportion between a rule which you adopt now but which only approximates the justice you seek to foster and a delegation of the rest to the discretion of the decision maker at the time subject to objection and application of further rules (hence the duality). Think lazy evaluation versus structure of computer programs for implementing an algorithm. --Jrgetsin (talk) 13:43, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ken Evoy
This may be the most active WikiPedia talk page ever. The point of this note is to ask for your insight, Jreferee. Back in September 2007, you added a lot of GREAT research about Ken Evoy in order to support the overturning of an AfD of his article: Ken Evoy. That conversation can be found here...AfD conversation
Before I could implement your research findings (thanks for that, by the way...you seem to have access to some powerful info databases) the article got a "COI" on it because of a SiteSell representative signing onto WikiPedia. I'm at a loss for how to get the tag off now that they have mentioned they will no longer contribute (not sure if they decided to leave WikiPedia altogether or just not touch the Ken Evoy article). In your opinion, Jreferee, is there something special that I need to do? Your insight is appreciated as I'd like to have at least one good WikiPedia article before moving on to others! [edit] Hartmut Gründler. new article /dec11 07. Help required
Hello, Jreferee. Since you offered assistance to authors of biographies I would like to describe what I have been doing and where I think I need some help. In January 2007 I started an an article on "Hartmut Gründler" in the German Wikipedia. (I knew the Gandhi-adherent Gründler since 1975 and cooperated with him until his fire suicide mid November 1977, which he committed out of protest against the misinformation of the German Government in its atomic energy policy. I keep an archive of his writings and documents about him [about 1000 documents listed up] and prepare to write a new biography of him. I have already published some of his writings, in 1997.) Some weeks ago I translated into English my wiki-text, which had been thoroughly revised by my German administrators, and started to put the stub into the English wikipedia. In the recent days I added the rest (two photoes still need to be inserted). My request now is: a) Could you have a look at my article? b) What have I to do to change the status of "stub-class" into the appropriate status of an ordinary article? c) Where can I find the guidelines for the additional insertion of the two envisaged photos, the one of the German text and a second one whose author I still have to find out. d) Could you help me with the correct wordings of the categories (which I simply copied from the German article)? e) Are there any further helpful suggestions you could make to enhance my article? With kind greetings, --Wilfried Huefler (talk) 11:25, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello Jreferee
I recently posted a stub for an article on Laurence Caruana. I posted it on the discussion page, awaiting some feedback before trying to post it as an article (I'm not sure if this was proper procedure - please advise). Could you please cast a sympathetic eye over it? I would greatly appreciate any advice you might have - particularly as I would like to post it without causing any issues. - It seems it was wrong to try posting a proposed article on Laurence Caruana on the discussion page - it was immediately deleted! Well, live n' learn.
- I've now posted the proposed article in my sandbox. It can be found by going to [jemecache/sandbox]. Could you please cast an eye over it before I try to post it?
- I also have a question. If (after I post it) someone tags the article with a template that questions notability, what is the usual procedure for responding? How long does the template remain, and who removes it? Can I remove it? Is it normal for someone to put a template, without at least discussing the issue first? So far, I haven't found a wiki policy that explains all this. - Thanks!

[edit] Image query
Hello Jreferee. You might remember me from a discussion we had regarding Image:NREAGANKISSCASKET1.jpg, a photo of Nancy Reagan kissing President Reagan's casket in the Capitol rotunda. During the undeletion discussion, the issue of the image being iconic was brought up; I would like to inquire as to what circumstances an image can be uploaded under fair use because it is 'iconic' (such as this image). The Nancy Reagan image certainly is iconic, and I believe it was deleted because, as you correctly pointed out, I had a lack of understanding Wikipedia's image policies. I'm much more in-tune now and feel it is time to revisit this issue, as User:IronGargoyle stated on the deletion review page. I was wondering if you could shed some light on how to do this. Thanks, Happyme22 (talk) 03:45, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WP:Miscellany_for_deletion/User:BQZip01/Comments#User:BQZip01.2FComments
If you remember, you weighed in on the use of user pages to draft a future RFC, and whether such use might count as an attack page if not promptly converted from a personal on-wiki collection of evidence about a person into an actual RFC or ArbCom case. The above is an ongoing discussion of one such user page; part of the question is what counts as a "reasonable" period of time to bring the RFC or delete the draft. (Opinions differ from "a few days" to "several months.") The discussion seems to be floundering a bit on what this policy means, so, if you're interested, I thought you might have input to add. (If not, sorry to bug you.) Thanks. --TheOtherBob 15:29, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:KateLorigPublicity.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:KateLorigPublicity.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 13:23, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:TownTopicsLogo.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:TownTopicsLogo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 02:12, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Restore Article
Digital Paint: Paintball 2 has recently satisfied the general notability criteria (WP:N) by being featured in the PC Gamer UK magazine, as seen here. In several weeks, it will be on the magazine's main site, which will provide further proof of publication. Could this article please be restored? If not, what steps do I need to take for it to be possible?
I apologize if this isn't the correct place to request its restoration, here is the original deletion review. Thank you for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.13.165.19 (talk) 21:49, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A-class review of the William Stacy article
Hello Jreferee. Last summer you had kindly nominated the William Stacy article to appear under the Did you know... section. I’ve recently noticed that you are a member of WikiProject Biography, so I wanted to ask for your help (if you are interested). Since last summer, the William Stacy article achieved GA-class, and then underwent a biography peer review here. I submitted the article for a biography A-class review here during December, but there seems to be a lack of A-class reviewers. If you have the time, and if you are interested or inclined to review the article, I would appreciate. If not, no problem. Thank you, ColWilliam (talk) 01:47, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Derek Smart WP:BLP article assistance
Hello, for sometime now, the Derek Smart article has come under various attacks. To the extent that most of the editors who seem to have tenure, are no longer even vetting the entries. For e.g. today I made various revisions under the WP:BLP guidelines and also left notes in the talk page. Another editor, SwatJester who has done such blanking before, simply came in and revert the change without so much as even reading it nor indicating why he did that. This is clearly abuse. If you read the changes I made, you will see that not only were they factual but also perfectly correct for a closely watched [WP:BLP] article. Can you help? Otherwise, its just going to end up being yet another revert war and with the erroneous data being left in place.Ho Lee Cow (talk) 15:11, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Somatic Responses
I spent about fifteen minutes trying to find just the info on there, okay? This is not a snippet from the band page. This is information that is hard to find. I would consider you right, except that Somatic Responses are no less notable than Rabia Sorda - an another article on an indie electronic band that I created - and this article actually contains information that people can't just find without typing it into Google.
I hate this about you admins sometimes. You deleate articles on things just because you haven't heard of them. Stormchaser (talk) 01:52, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Please do not delet the page for Australian model Scott McGregor. He is Australia's highest profile male model and there are no other resources on the internet that provide a valuable summary on the man himself. He is also a television presenter on Austrtalia's highest rating subscriber TV network. There are many far less noatble people with a Wikipedia entry, it would be a shame to see this page disappear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Benjwilson (talk • contribs) 03:05, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
