Germany will compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, People's Republic of China. This is a list of all of the German athletes who were nominated for the Olympics as well as those who have qualified and await nomination. The German National Olympic Committee (DOSB) will nominate athletes on May 29th, June 23rd and July 15th 2008. Please note, that a won Quota place by IOC standards does not automatically mean, that the athlete will be nominated for Beijing, as the DOSB has stricter qualification standards. An athlete needs to have a somewhat realistic chance for a top 12 position. An exception to this are the team events, as the number of competing teams is already very limited through the IOC standards, and a chance for a respective place is already given by the qualification. If no name is mentioned, it means that Germany has won a Quota place and will compete in that discipline, but it is not yet sure, with which athlete.

6 other German athletes are prequalified thanks to finishing in the Top 8 at the 2007 World Championships. They only need to confirm their result once in 2008 to qualify: Eike Onnen, Ralf Bartels, Markus Esser, André Niklaus, Franka Dietzsch, Linda Stahl. The other athletes have to fulfill the standards more than once to qualify.

As of now, the following three relays would be qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The qualification period for the relays ends in July 2008.

  • 4x100m Relay men
  • 4x400m Relay men
  • 4x100m Relay women

[edit] Modern pentathlon

Eric Walther and Steffen Gebhard both fulfilled the DOSB standards. If they fulfill the IOC standards during the World Championships 2008 or qualify through the World Ranking list (which they currently would), they will be nominated.

[edit] Sailing

German boats won four more quota places at the 2007 World Championships. They will be used, if the boats fulfill the DOSB standards as well.

[edit] Volleyball (beach)

After half of the qualification period, two German duos per gender would be qualified for the Olympics.

[edit] Weightlifting

Germany won three more Quota places for the men's competitions during the 2006 and 2007 World Championships. They may be used.
