Archery
Samoa will send an archer to the Olympics for the first time. Joseph Walter earned the country its first Olympic archery qualifying spot, in the men's competition, by placing second in the 2008 Oceanian championship.[1]

Boxing
Samoa qualified one boxer for the Olympic boxing tournament. Satupaitea Farani Tavui earned Oceania's qualifying spot in the light heavyweight class by winning the Oceanian continental qualifying tournament.[2]

17-year-old Emma Hunter, a Samoan New Zealander, will be the first woman to swim for Samoa at any Olympic Games. She will compete in freestyle and butterfly events.[3]
