[edit] History

WSPA-FM signed on the air August 29th, 1946 as the sister station to WSPA AM 950. It was South Carolina's first FM radio station. Also, on August 1st 1960, WSPA-FM became the first station in South Carolina (as well as the Southeast) to broadcast in stereo.

For many years WSPA-FM was a beautiful music station. In the early 90s the station changed to MOR. Later the station evolved into its current format.

As of early 2008, WSPA's playlist largely consists of music from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, as well as current hits. Unlike competitor WMYI, the station plays more recent music, while WMYI's playlist largely consists of hits from the 1970s and 1980s, along with some 60s and current songs. However, WSPA does include some 1970s songs.
