The third step of beta oxidation is the oxidation of L-3-hydroxyacyl CoA by NAD+, catalyzed by 3-Hydroxyacyl CoA dehydrogenase. This converts the hydroxyl group into a keto group.
The end product is 3-ketoacyl CoA.
