[edit] Results
[edit] Preliminary Card
- Pedro Rizzo defeats Tra Telligman by technical knockout due to doctor's stoppage at 4:24 of Round 2 when a large cut was opened over Telligman's eye. Telligman's skull was exposed and the fight was stopped despite his protests.
- Falaniko Vitale defeats Matt Lindland by technical knockout at 1:56 of Round 1. Lindland botched a throw attempt and landed on his head, instantly knocking himself out.
- Yves Edwards defeats Eddie Ruiz by unanimous decision. All 3 judges scored the bout 30-27.
[edit] Main Card
- Frank Mir defeats Wes Sims by disqualification at 2:55 of Round 1 after Sims stomped down on Mir's face after slamming his way out of a Frank Mir armbar attempt.
- Ian Freeman and Vernon White fought to a split draw. Judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, 29-29. Vernon White was a replacement for Lion's Den teammate Ken Shamrock, who was unable to participate due to a knee injury.
- Vitor Belfort defeats Marvin Eastman by technical knockout due to strikes at 1:07 of Round 1. This was Eastman's UFC debut. A knee from Belfort opened a massive cut over Eastman's left eye. This knee was followed by several punches in rapid succession, prompting the stoppage. It is a misconception that the cut caused the stoppage, which is not the case.
- Kimo Leopoldo defeats Tank Abbott by arm triangle choke at 1:59 of Round 1.
- Randy Couture defeats Chuck Liddell by technical knockout due to strikes at 2:39 of Round 3. Couture becomes the Interim Light Heavyweight Champion, and the first person to win a title in two different weight divisions (Couture was a two-time Heavyweight Champion). The fight was for the Interim Light Heavyweight Championship because current Light Heavyweight Champion, Tito Ortiz, was locked in a contract dispute with UFC and refused to fight number one contender, Chuck Liddell, until the issue was resolved.
