The town Sevnica, situated on the left bank of the river Sava, is one of the largest towns in Slovenian region called Posavje and the seat of the Municipality of Sevnica. The old town core of Sevnica huddles beneath Sevnica Castle perched on the top of the Castle Hill, while the new part of town stretches along the plane among the hills upward the river Sava valley and forms another town core at the confluence of the rivers Sevnična and Sava.
