Cerknica is a small town and a municipality in the Kras region of southwestern Slovenia. The town iteself has a population of 3552 (2002) with over 10,000 in the municipality.
Windsurfing is popular at Lake Cerknica, an intermittent lake in the vicinity of the town and the largest lake in Slovenia.
The famous Postojna caves near Cerknica are one of the most impressive cave systems in the world.
