The Miss France pageant is a long-standing competition which awards prizes to young women contestants from France. Since the 1950s, Miss France winners competed in the Miss Universe pageant. The organization lost the right to send a delegate in the 2003 edition of the international competition after a dispute with a rival pageant organization. In 2004, Endemol, the new co-owner and broadcaster of the Miss France and Miss Europe pageants regained the right to send its titleholders to Miss Universe.

Although both Denise Perrier and Christiane Martel won the Miss World and Miss Universe title for France in 1953, respectively, they were not a titleholder from this pageant. Valérie Bègue, the title holder for 2008, however, cannot compete in Miss Universe due to a photo-related scandal. The first runner-up, from New Caledonia, will represent France and Bègue in those pageants while Bègue will remain "Miss France" at home [1].

The president of Miss France Organization is Geneviève de Fontenay.

Miss France is broadcast on television since 1987 on France 3 and now 1995 on TF1. The Winner goes to Miss Universe and Miss World , 1st Runner-Up goes to Miss International.

And this election is the expected end of the year in France.

The reining Miss France is Valérie Bègue, formerly Miss Réunion 2007 , who has crowned in Dunkirk on December 8, 2008 by Rachel Legrain-Trapani, Miss France 2007.
