Should we sort the list by admin/nonadmin? I'd certainly find a list of active online admins useful - perhaps once the final template is ready we can set up two, one for everyone and one for those with the bit? --ST47Talk·Desk 19:05, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't think so. I think it's fine the way it is. Finding a list of online admins is a bit unnecessary, because there are report pages like AIV and everything, so I don't see a need to really communicate with an admin immediately. Once you make a report, you leave it in good hands, and chances are, some admin is online, and checking a report page. J-stan ^Talk_Contribs 19:22, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, the on-wiki part of the template is more or less done. To use it, do this:

1. Add [[Category:Wikipedians who use StatusBot|{{subst:PAGENAME}}]] anywhere in your userpage.

   A slight delay, not exceeding five minutes will occur until StatusBot picks up your info.

2. Put {{User:Titoxd/Sandbox/Status template|{{subst:PAGENAME}}}} to your userpage, whereever you want it.
3. If you're an admin, add the admin=yes parameter. We're going by the honor system here, for now.
4. Create a page by clicking this link and type anything in it. Now, If you want to show that you are busy, type "yes". If you want to show that you are not busy, blank the page. You can switch availability status this way any time.
5. If you are on IRC, type in the IRC=yes parameter. We'll make this one be automated soon.

Now, we need to make sure we can aggregate the data. But for that, we need to know the name, in order to create the category... Titoxd^{(?!? - cool stuff)} 20:43, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

The flower is a free alternative of the ICQ symbol, although if you have a better symbol for "I'm on IRC", I'm all ears... Titoxd^{(?!? - cool stuff)} 21:09, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I have a question TheFearow. I there anyway you could update you Bot so that it could tell whether a user was reverting vandalism or making regular contribs and distinguish the two.? How do you mark yourself as busy and will there ever be a bot which can tell whether you are reverting vandalism or working on other articles. Tbo ¹⁵⁷talk 19:35, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

There probably won't be a bot, simply because coding that would be computationally very expensive, not to mention many edge cases that are not clear-cut for the bot to analyze. To do that, you need to create a page underneath your userspace (you can click on this link to create it) and type anything in it. If the page does not exist, or is blank, it marks you as not busy. Hi, I've been online for almost 1 hour and I still don't show up on the status box as "on". Am I doing something wrong? Jrod2 13:19, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Oddly enough, you're not showing up on Category:Wikipedians who use StatusBot, even though your user page seems to have you categorized there. [edit] Mistake and status bot's unreliablity

Hi.. I kind of made a small mistake by creating the page User:StatusBot/Status/your username, which was previously un-created. I did this because I was editing my own statusbot page, which is the same as above except with my username, and I forgot to replace 'your name' with my own username. For some reason, it has been hours, and still my page wasn't created. So I went to create and of course screwed up as stated above.— Dædαlus^{→quick link} / Improve 05:44, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
