Thanks very much for those great links, although I didn't notice the userbox links until I had already gone and copied ones I liked from other peoples pages, a painstaking process. I have a question now: there's an article which I want to clean up, one about an Egyptian queen whom I know little about, but it's mostly formatting I want to clean up (the style is really informal). As a matter of fact, I don't work at Strath anymore. And since that time I haven't had the free time necessary to edit Wikipedia very much, as you'll notice if you look at my contributions.

Within 24 hours of the block coming into effect, my account was unblocked, enabling me to continue editing while any students who were not logged in could not. That was definitely a satisfactory solution for me.

There is no formal involvement of the IT Department in Wikipedia. The nature of my job at STS gave me hours of free time every day, some of which I used to devote to maintaining the integrity of Wikipedia. Just a little insight as to why I was in the mood I was, I commented in this afd. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edward Kennedy (journalist). Someone nominated an article about the man who broke the story of the German surrender in WWII after the article had been written for 18 minutes. It colored my view of afd this evening. If you want to withdraw a nomination and you're the only person who has commented that it should be deleted so far, you can just say on the page that you withdraw the nom, and an admin will close the discussion. Slackcountry

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Slackcountry, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Conversion units

Thank you for providing a diff summary with my reversion - I had thought with that edit that in fact I was rolling back further than I was at the time, and that the actual edit that I was undoing was a formatting error that had previously occurred.

Your essay

I've done some copyediting, and posted a couple of comments on the talk/discussion page of the essay.

I think the essay still needs a lot of work, but it is original (as best I know; I not aware of anything similar in the Index, for example) and it's potentially quite useful for readers. I suggest posting a note at the talk pages of Wikipedia:Researching with Wikipedia and Wikipedia:Citing Wikipedia, asking for comments and welcoming edits. You might also look (first) at those two pages to see if they have anything that you want to incorporate. You should also take a look at the article Reliability of Wikipedia. It's got a different focus than your essay, but you might be able to take some information (or concepts) from it, and of course you'll want to include a link to it in your essay. You might also want to post a note on the article talk page about your essay; while that technically wouldn't be about improving the article per se, it's allowable per WP:IAR because what you're doing is trying to improve Wikipedia. Yes, I think you should move it to projectspace. Do remove the notice about anyone being welcome to edit it; projectspace essays are always editable by other editors, unlike userspace ones.

The worst that can happen is that someone decides to userfy the essay, putting it back in your userspace, but I think that's unlikely. So no reason not be be bold. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 02:27, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

It's pretty unusual for an essay to have a two-character shortcut. Policies and guidelines, sure - and WikiProjects may be forced to take another shortcut in that case. For your essay, something like WP:AREL or WP:ARY or even WP:ASSR seem appropriate, or use another three or four character shortcut you like. His edits do appear to be in good faith, but they're becoming consistently annoying which is making me lean toward that they're subtle acts of vandalism. I am sorry if it seemed rude. I certainly didn't mean it that way, but I rather got the impression that my absolute opinion on the matter was not helping and that people (e.g., Mrslippery) would be happier if I just got lost.... I have already acted on your advice about stepping down before it escalates however – I'm not getting involved with article talk pages again – if anyone reverts anything of mine in future I'll just let them have their way. Easier that way.

I think that since there are 1,780,000 Google Scholar hits on "Functional Disorders" the topic is certaintly worthy of an article. However, I don't think that an article on the Evolution of Functional Disorders should exist. The article was well-referenced and well-written and the topic appears notable, so it meets WP:N and WP:V. As for addressing WP:OR, if only the truly relevant and sourced information is left, there is absolutely no issue. If the information about the basic facts of functional disorders is left, there is no synthesization of information.

I do not believe this should have been deleted but merged into Functional Disorders.

I do not think that undeletion is neccesary. Just take the work and research, adapt it to be more encyclopedic and general, and make a page of Functional Disorders.
