[edit] Warning vandals

As per this -- WP:WARN describes the proper method for warning and reporting vandals. That's not how to do it, and the user hadn't received a final warning yet. However, thank you very much for the good intentions! As long as you act in good faith, as you are now, you'll pick up policy as you go, so no worries. Happy editing! Hey, don't add indefinite block templates to talk pages or user pages without checking to see if the user or IP is in fact, blocked indefinitely. It gives a false impression to other users. Kwsn (Ni!) 00:53, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as in User talk:70.190.20.178, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button Image:Wikisigbutton.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. Hello buddy. You deleted the sentence on the Thebans being held hostage. If you had read Book vii you would have immediately realized that their being there unwillingly is a theme developed by Herodotus at many locations throughout Book 7. Some things you do not have to source because they are generally known and basic to the subject. I could easily source it and so can you. However I am going to let it stand for other reasons. There is no need to clutter up the article with this marginal statement at this point. I see that you seem to be interested more in the "cop" end of Wikipedia editing. That interest will lead to system administration after a great many more edits and experience at dealing with Wikipedian editors. You can propose yourself also I believe for administration, but if I were you I would get more experience. For this one I think you might have read Book vii, containing the main topic. Now for the Spartan casualties, here is a problem for you to consider. What should the solution be? In one source one man was sent back as messenger and he later committed suicide. In another source two men were invalided out for eye infections but one ran back and was killed while the other committed suicide. Is the suicide a casualty? That number keeps being batted back and forth. Now, the box was intended for general numbers and I think it is perfectly OK to round off to 300, especially as I consider the suicide a casualty. Let me ask you, are you engaging in number batting from conviction or from something else? You don't need to answer, I am just saying, maybe you should consider your motives. Number batting can go on for some time. This is a long response but it seems to me there might be a chance it is worth it.Dave 12:20, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I do not remember which one, but you did comment on a persons user page. You have to use the talk section ya know. And no further comment on your other question. Feel free to contest this "warning" but it will do you no good. But just in case I made a mistake, I will withdraw the warning.
In other words, you don't know why you added the warning, have no rationale to back up said warning, don't know how to properly warn people generally, and (as a quick glance at your edit history shows) haven't the slightest authority -- assigned, moral, historical, or experience -- to blather on about how "contest[ing] this "warning"...will do [me] no good. Does that about sum it up?
It's not a question if "if" you made a mistake, it's only a question of how big, and why.

Start with knowing what you're talking about, then move on to actually doing things properly and not claiming authority you do not have nor are entitled to. My suggestion would be to cease discussion with this user. It seems that both of you are going at it with each other, and the best way would be prevent this from going further. I'll post a notice on Carlton's talk page to do the same. I would suggest that you talk to Carlton and tell him that you would like to end this argument and would like to make peace. Might I suggest you give an apology to the user? I'm not saying that either one of you are right or wrong, I just know from personal experience that giving an apology to a user helps to calm things down.
