Highway 16 is central and northern Alberta's primary east-west highway.

It is part of the Yellowhead branch of the Trans-Canada Highway system that extends from British Columbia to Manitoba. The highway is a divided four-lane highway with both at-grade and controlled access intersections. Within Alberta, it passes through Lloydminster, Edmonton, Edson, Hinton and Jasper.

The length within the province of Alberta is 641 km (398 mi).

Within the city of Edmonton, the highway forms one of the main east-west routes, and is known as Yellowhead Trail.
