[edit] Scope

This is a WikiProject on elements of the Latter Day Saint movement, Mormonism, Latter Day Saint history, doctrine, practices, and other cultural effects inspired by Joseph Smith, Jr..

See also: List_of_articles_about_Mormonism

This project is closely related to Wikipedia:WikiProject Utah and Wikipedia:WikiProject Brigham Young University

[edit] Project Style Guidelines

See:

Some quick points to remember:

  • Articles wholly pertaining to the Latter Day Saint movement should be parenthesized "(Latter Day Saints)", unless the article name is unambiguous without the parenthetical.
  • Articles should not be limited to a single Latter Day Saint denomination, unless including the entire Latter Day Saint movement is impractical or awkward. For example, instead of "Restoration (Community of Christ)" or "Restoration (LDS Church)", you would call the article Restoration (Latter Day Saints).
  • In article names, references to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should capitalize the initial The and include a hyphen and a lower-case "d".
  • In general, use the term Mormon or its derivatives only when referring to people or denominations with historical ties to Utah-based The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Deadlinks are discouraged as they tend to attract POV material on religious subjects.
  • Apply the {{LDS-stub}} boilerplate message at the end of stubs.

[edit] Timeline

There's a timeline based on LDS (1850s-on) and Mormonism (centuries and 1820s-1840s) in general. For specific dates (eg, June 1, 1944) you should link normally. You should also show a link to the timeline somewhere on the page (probably in "see also" or in See ... bits) as appropriate. You can start here to see the timeline: 19th century (Mormonism).

[edit] Articles in Progress

Besides the work below, there are dozens of LDS stubs that need to be filled out. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement/Articles needed and Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement/Requested stubs.

To prevent duplication of effort, if you are working on an open task, PLEASE sign your name beneath the article's listing below, preferably with some sort of comment, so we know who is working on what, and what still needs to be done.

Once the task you have been working on is complete, please remove it from this list, and from {{Template:LDSinfobox}}.

Please put NEW requests at the BOTTOM of their respective list.

[edit] Create/Collaborate

  • Zarahemla. Unorganized, unencyclopedic, and not totally accurate. Could use a lot of attention, may be a good collaboration ... the most prominent city in The Book of Mormon surely deserves more than this. 24.124.20.216 (talk) 12:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Script-generated to-do lists

[edit] /Articles needed

553 red links compiled from nearly all of the articles in the Category:Mormonism hierarchy. I've listed the Mormonism-related articles that employ each red link because many of them are obvious mistakes that should be fixed on the page. Some should also be redirects to prevent similar mistakes in the future. I've also listed the number of main namespace links-to.

Many of these have nothing whatsoever to do with the Latter Day Saint movement, but I believe this list is interesting. Many secular links need to be fixed anyway.

[edit] /Requested stubs

This list compiled from Category:LDS stubs, listed in order of number of links-to, excluding wikilinks from user pages and wikipedia namespace. Note that the {{LDS-stub}} template causes every LDS stub to have a self-referential link. Therefore, every article has one less link-to than this list shows. Thus, articles listed her have one less link-to than it would appear. Therefore the articles with "1" link-to are in fact orphans. Cool Hand Luke 07:36, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Heh. this dif shows that Mormon (prophet) is now beating Spencer W. Kimball for links. Meanwhile, Hyrum Smith has gained nine links since November, jumping up into the top ten. Cool Hand Luke 07:45, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I've decided to start tackling the temples list. Does anyone know of someplace that offers fair use pictures of any of the temples? Sue Anne 22:57, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

I've been adding lists of current and former Temple presidents to the pages, but those additions are being reverted. Are you like me and think that who has presided over Temples is of note? Anyways, would just like your thoughts.--Carterdriggs 08:33, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Liberty Jail - I've added a lot of material to this recently, still have a couple more sections to add. 74s181 13:44, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

I apologize - I was negligent in adding my projects to this list. For anyone interested in critiquing, reviewing or editing, I have been working on the following tasks:

  1. Expansion of stub Nahom to full article.
  2. Expansion of stub Bountiful (Book of Mormon) to full article.
  3. Complete reorganization of Archaeology and the Book of Mormon
  4. Created article Limited Geography Model (Book of Mormon)
  5. Created article Mormonism Unvailed
  6. Expansion of article An Insider's View of Mormon Origins
  7. Creation of stubs for Shazer and Joseph Smith: The Making of a Prophet

Bochica 20:13, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I've started a draft of an article on Zenos. I will create the actual article page when I'm done getting things ready. The work-in-progress may be viewed here. Chiros Sunrider 00:38, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help wanted

  • Jgardner is looking for help in writing biographies on the church leaders. Contact him on his talk page if you want to help. He can show you what he is doing and where to go to get information. Even if you aren't a good writer, there is plenty of other work needed in correlating dates and various things.
  • bhludzin - thank you for everyone who has done such a great job on the List of temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There are now articles on all of the existing temples. Now we need properly licensed pictures of all of the temples uploaded to Wikipedia so that they can be added to the articles and also to the list (check out the list - it is looking great!) I have gone to web sites, found some pictures, and asked the owners for permission via e-mail, and uploaded them. Please do not upload pictures without permission, the bots will just remove them. If you have any photos, or have friends with photos, please upload them. Thank you!
  • Jerry Crimson Mann is translating the article Mormon handcart pioneers into Chinese. He wants to know about the title of a book listed in the references, which is "Hafen and Hafen". What does "Hafen" mean in this case? Does it refer to "heaven"? Or does it mean "harbor" in the German language? He's looking forward to your reply. :)
  • The Eight Witnesses article is sometimes vandalised with anti-mormon bias. Please look on this page and revert anti-mormon bias.
  • Chiros Sunrider will soon be attempting to create a Book of Mormon category template. He would like a good image of golden plates (which is useable per WP:IUP) to use for it, preferably similar to this image. Any help would be appreciated.
