RSN: Most Toronto Blue Jays games air on Sportsnet Ontario - many of these games air across the network, Seattle Mariners games air on Sportsnet Pacific, assorted games air on an individual basis on each of the several Sportsnet channels

The All Star Game, Division Series, League Championship Series, and World Series are televised exclusively on RSN (although the local FOX affiliate carried on cable and satellite also shows these games with American ads).

TSN and CBC: Approximately 20 Blue Jays games each.

[edit] Basketball

National Basketball Association

Raptors NBA TV, RSN, The Score, and TSN broadcast Toronto Raptors games, plus select NBA games not involving the Raptors

NBA Playoffs air on all three networks; the NBA Finals are televised by TSN (although virtually every viewer who gets TSN also gets ABC on their TV package)

NCAA The Score air mosts of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.

Some regular-season and conference-tournament games air on The Score. Some cable systems offer packages of college games that air on ESPN or syndication in the U.S.

[edit] Cricket

[edit] Curling

[edit] Football

Canadian Football League

  • TSN - all games including playoffs and Grey Cup
  • RDS - all Montreal games in French, plus other selected regular season games, playoffs, and Grey Cup.

National Football League

  • CTV - Sunday "early" (1:00 p.m. ET) games, all playoff games, and the Super Bowl; games can also theoretically air on TSN
  • TSN - all primetime regular-season games (from NBC, ESPN, NFLN)
  • Rogers Sportsnet - Sunday "late" (4:05 / 4:15 p.m. ET) games, plus Thanksgiving afternoon games and the Pro Bowl
    • Rogers-owned OMNI.2 in southern Ontario, as well as Citytv Vancouver, will also carry Sunday late games, different from those carried by the local Sportsnet feed. This does not presently apply to OMNI and Citytv stations elsewhere.
  • RDS / RIS - exclusive French-language rights. Presently RDS carries selected Sunday afternoon games (mainly towards the end of the season) and the playoffs, and RIS carries Monday night games.

The contract held by Global (including CH and selected local stations sub-contracted by Global) as primary rightsholder for non-cable games expired at the end of the 2006 season.

NBC, CBS, and Fox are available in Canada, as is NFL Sunday Ticket. NFL Network is also available, but its games are blacked out in Canada in deference to TSN.

U.S. College football

Some NCAA games air on The Score. Bowl games are split between TSN and The Score. Some cable systems offer packages of college games that air on ESPN or syndication in the U.S.

[edit] Golf

  • TSN carries coverage of The Masters (first two rounds live, final two rounds on tape delay), the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship, as well as selected other R&A, USGA and PGA of America events. It also carries a limited schedule of PGA Tour coverage (including the early rounds of the Canadian Open, sub-licensed from The Golf Channel).
  • Global carries live weekend coverage of The Masters. E! airs the weekend rounds of most PGA Tour events carried by U.S. network television. (In markets where E! is not widely available, some local Global stations carry the final round only.)
  • The Golf Channel (based in the U.S. but available in much of Canada on digital cable/satellite) carries early-round coverage of all PGA Tour events (i.e. not the majors) and four-round coverage of some late-season tournaments. This coverage was carried on TSN prior to 2007.

[edit] Hockey

[edit] National Hockey League

National broadcast rights:

  • CBC (Hockey Night in Canada) until 2014
    • Regular season: Exclusive rights to Saturday broadcasts (including Saturday night doubleheader and selected Saturday afternoon games), occasional weeknight games
    • Playoffs: Stanley Cup Finals; all games involving Canadian teams and (in some cases) selected games with two American teams
  • TSN (NHL on TSN)
    • Regular season: most national weeknight and Sunday games
    • Playoffs: First choice of playoff games with two American teams (excluding the finals); may include Saturday games
  • NHL Network: Selected regular season games with two U.S. teams, plus live look-ins of regional games
  • RDS / RIS: Exclusive French-language rights to NHL games (normally airing all Montreal games, selected Ottawa contests, and several playoff games)
  • NHL Centre Ice: pay-per-view package available via various cable / satellite providers

Current contract for national English-language NHL broadcasts expires at the end of the 2007–08 season. New contracts in effect as of 2008–09 will allow for additional weeknight games on CBC, limits on the number of CBC regular-season broadcasts featuring a single team, and (pending finalization of TSN contract) playoff games involving Canadian teams on TSN.

Canadian teams also contract with local or regional broadcasters for selected regular season games not covered by the national contracts:

  • TNT: Division series games not aired on sister network TBS
  • ESPN: Sunday night games and two additional games per week; Opening Day games

Additionally, local or regional broadcasters contract with the MLB team in their area for the right to broadcast a number of regular season games locally. These broadcasters can be traditional over-the-air television stations as well as regional cable sports channels. The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox air some of their games on WGN-TV, which has become a superstation, so those games are available nationwide. (A similar arrangement with the Atlanta Braves and TBS expired following the 2007 season.)

National Basketball Association

  • ABC: national broadcast contract (Sunday games); NBA Finals until 2016

  • NBA TV, MOJO HD: Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday night games until 2016

Additionally, local or regional broadcasters contract with the NBA team in their area for the right to broadcast a number of regular season games locally. These broadcasters can be traditional over-the-air television stations as well as regional cable sports channels. WGN, a Chicago-based superstation, broadcasts a limited number of Chicago Bulls regular season games on their national feed, fewer than they provide locally. If ESPN chooses to opt out of airing all of the games on their night, NBA TV airs a game in its place. Games in the first two rounds of the playoffs can be aired by regional broadcasters, unless the national broadcaster has exclusive rights. Games in the first round not selected by national broadcasters are usually broadcast by NBA TV.
