Cuatro ("Four") is a Spanish private television channel broadcasting since November 2005. The Channel is owned by Sogecable and is product of the reconversion of its pay-per view license of Canal+.
In 2006, it scored a massive coup by cutting a deal with the RFEF and the Spain national football team to show all of the team's matches, and it also reached to a deal with competing channel La Sexta to share the rights to broadcast the games of general interest in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. It pulled the licence away from TVE, who had held the rights to the national team's matches for years. In 2008, it got the rights, along with the same owned satellite platform Digital+, to broadcast the UEFA Euro 2008 championship.[1]
