Havens Wildlife Management Area

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Havens Wildlife Management Area is a protected area located in Roanoke County, Virginia. Located in the Appalachian Highlands and occupying a part of Fort Lewis Mountain, it is steep and generally inaccessible; elevations in the 7190-acre area range from 1500 to 3200 feet above sea level. Save for a few intermittent streams, and some watering holes created for local wildlife, there is little water present, and soils on the property are generally shallow and poor. 99 percent of the land is forested, growing a mixture of oaks, hickories, and pines. At one time the area was used for timber production, and it has been slow to recover.
