Grand China Express Air is a start-up regional airline based in Tianjin, People's Republic of China. It operates domestic passenger and cargo services with effect from May 2007.[1]

[edit] History

The airline was established in 2004 as the vehicle to merge the major aviation assets of Hainan Airlines, China Xinhua Airlines, Chang'an Airlines and Shanxi Airlines, and received its operating licence from the Civil Aviation Administration of China in 2007.[2]

The airline was launched in May 2007 with 29 - 32 seat Dornier 328-300 jets. This makes it the country's largest regional airline, initially operating on 78 routes linking 54 cities. By 2012, it intends to fly on more than 450 routes linking at least 90 cities, taking more than 90% of the domestic regional aviation market.[3] The airline is owned by HNA Group (80%) and Hainan Airlines (20%).[1]

[edit] Fleet

The Grand China Express Air fleet includes (at May 2007)[3] :

The airline intends to purchase 50 Embraer ERJ 145 and 50 Embraer E-190 aircraft.[3]
