[edit] New Yurts

Maybe you should read up on M1 in NSW - its a murderous death trap (what i have experienced of it so far) am cringing in the rain in the hills out of a valley south of the gold/surfers/rain coast - and have commandeered a computer of a friends son which had 1 gig cleaned out by crap cleaner an hour or so ago. happy new yurt! happy new yoghurt! hapopy noi ear, and whatever else SatuSuro 07:44, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello Gnangarra, I hope you had a pleasant New Year's Day, and that 2008 brings further success, health and happiness! ...and further nationalist conquests ;) All the best Gnangarra!.... ~ Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:49, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] General Motors railway station, Melbourne

I was wondering why you deleted with article? It was deleted for "CSD G12: Blatant Copyright infringement" yet there were no copyright issues with the article at all. Someone else has since restored a skeleton page, but it shouldn't have been deleted in the first place. I'm hoping it was an accident and you can fix it, otherwise I will tootle over to Wikipedia:Deletion review and bring it up there.

I'm presuming nothing has happened to the article in the last 5 or so days, as I was the last one to edit it. Wongm (talk) 07:38, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DYK nom

Updated DYK query Did you know? was updated. On 3 January 2008, a fact from the article Fremantle Markets, which you recently nominated, was featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka 3

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 05:26, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your comments at FAC regarding USS Illinois (BB-65)

You are, of course, free to change your oppose at any time, but it would be nice if you gave a better reason for the shift. Obviouly it has to do with the edits made to the article, but what exactly was withdrawn of readded that caused the change as such? TomStar81 (Talk) 07:08, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Are you talking about the length, or is this about the ship being incomplete? TomStar81 (Talk) 09:04, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
The comment you have highlighted there was actually more geared to illistrating a point with regard to BQZip01 and his not returning to comment after the fact, which I find disquieting since the vast majority of admin work is somewhat mindless repetition of the same points to people obsessed with small details. If he can't check on measelly FAC (and I grant that this is, at the end of the day, not that important) then I have to wonder how he is going to handle the butload of people who will be on him for the admin-related actions he takes, and that fact there is whats throwing up red flags for me. An answer -any answer- to my previous responses would likely have settled this issue for me quite some time ago, just as your response now has settled the issue of your participation in the FAC. As always, I apreciate in the input, and though I would have liked for your support to have remained on the FAC page I respect your opinion on the matter and will not bother you about it again. Thank you answer my questions. TomStar81 (Talk) 21:01, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Courtesy note

FYI, your name was mentioned in passing at an extension request that I filed at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration#Request for extension of restrictions at DreamGuy 2, specifically, my extended report at User:Elonka/DreamGuy report. No action is required on your part, I just wanted to let you know. --Elonka 03:28, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rollback Rights for User:Slysplace

I agree that his edits are all heavily AWB minor fixes. However I did note a series of reversions in December that all looked good. He seems experienced and has a clean block log / talk page etc. and I don't think any harm will come. He looks unlikely to actually use the tool, IMHO, but that isn't a reason to deny it. (Admitedly this whole thing has so little procedure and reference it's hard to make any decisions based on a policy !) If you wish please feel free to re-open the request for further input. [edit] David Hicks allegations

Hi, a fellow editor on David Hicks feels and is editing on the basis that newspapers just include "alleged" to save themselves from legal action and that on WP we don't need to follow their example. I have now run up to 3Reverts (which you or a fellow admin says is too many on David Hicks). I have begun discusion with the editor and they did provide another source in the article. Unfortunately the new source provides no mention of the "allegations" in question. I have posted this to User talk:Gnangarra and User talk:Eagle 101. SmithBlue (talk) 02:36, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the warning. I have no intention of editing further on this without input from more experienced editors. Hopefully someone else will enforce WP:BLP. SmithBlue (talk) 02:40, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Geoff Christian Award

Hopefully either you or someone watching this place can help. I thought the above was given to a Freo or Eagles player. Kim Hagdorn seems to say otherwise. Or is their a second award I've not heard of? Either way, Kim needs major surgery which I'll do once this issue is resolved. —Moondyne 11:26, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, but won't somebody think of the children! Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 11:37, 16 January 2008 (UTC) (Note to SineBot: See, I can do it right}

Hey!, thats my line Mattinbgn! But seriously, thanks Gnangarra, you just doubled my barnstar collection! :-) Fosnez (talk) 12:02, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
One thing though, on my barnstar you said "For you efforts in enhancing the notability of three respectable editors" but I count four editors mentioned in the article (Bebe Jumea, Mattinbgn, Dihydrogen and myself). Was I not counted as a "respectable editor" because I originally created the article in question, or am I just reading too much into this... Fosnez (talk) 12:07, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Well I could just say it was an error on my part, I could sneak in and just alter the tagline or I could let the four fight over who three are....Ummmmmm Gnangarra 12:12, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Perth meet-up

Mostly time and distance (about 600km from Perth) so mid-week isn't too good for travel when working. But if there's ever a meet-up in the Goldfields... :) Florrieleave a note 15:00, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Yes, can do pics/uploads. I've been trying to locate some older pics of the ghost/mining towns around here but they are packed 'safely' somewhere. Any town you are particularly interested in? The Kal and Coolgardie articles look okay for pics. Florrieleave a note 15:20, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Not so much the towns but more the Flora, vegetation, small creatures lizards, frogs, insects. What happen now is that some other ediotrs who also watch this page may add some requests. Kambalda, Western Australia, Widgiemooltha, Western Australia (no article yet) Bonnie Vale, Western Australia Transwa Prospector Great Eastern Highway at first glance could do with some, last two have Perth end pictures nothing your end.(cross posted response) Gnangarra 15:29, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
I have to take the son for driving lessons anyway - could be a good excuse for a photographic expedition! I don't have a macro zoom lens any longer so I don't know that I could do a lot about the very small creatures/flora but I'll remember to keep the camera with me for the larger items. Hi Thanks for your message. I agree Image:Stjameskingswood.JPG is Holy Trinity church not St James's & should be renamed (& the text/titles in Church of St James, Kingswood and Kingswood, South Gloucestershire changed). I've looked at Holy Trinity at IoE for confirmation. I took this photo while in the area to do Whitefield's Tabernacle, Kingswood & was relying on the street name on my map (St James's Street). [edit] Regarding the Deletion of Bluepill

14:31, 30 January 2008 Gnangarra (Talk | contribs) deleted "Bluepill" ‎ (as per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bluepill)

I would like to state my argument for the restoration of Bluepill. The Bluepill is a metaphorical object from the Matrix Series, it represents the ignorant, the ones who would rather "not know," and it is relivant for this reason. If I recall correctly, the Bluepill Article also included quotes from the first time the pill was introduced in The Matrix. These are quite interesting philosophical words from Morpheus, and they deserve their spot on Wikipedia. There are also serveral links to the former Bluepill page hinding around Template:Matrix. These pages will benefit from the restoration of Bluepill. Redpill looks dreadfully not supplemented without its companion, Bluepill. I will spare you my Free Information rant, because you most probably know it. The Internet Community begs of you to restore Bluepill. Thank you.

[edit] Editor repeatedly misrepresenting sources

Hi, around 13 of Feb you posted the following

I note that you are in what appears to be an d edit war with Prester John on the David Hicks article, you have reverted 3 times please consider yourself cautioned about WP:3RR and that you may be blocked. Gnangarra 02:31, 13 January 2008 (UTC) on my talk page.

The reversions were over a source being misrepresented on a BLP, unsourced accusations being placed on a BLP.

I now realise that your warning was contrary to WP:BLP which explicitly excludes such reverts. SmithBlue (talk) 17:43, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

It was the 13 January I also warned Prester John [1] WP:3RR says that all parties should be warned before blocking, if you have a problem with a blp issue instead of revert warring you should post to WP:AN/I or WP:BLP/N and get outside view normally an admin, who can protect/block where appropriate. I didnt see any reference to a blp issue in the edit summaries before warning, only edit summaries typical of POV warring. Also when warned you should have raise the issue at the time if I was aware of a BLP issue(to me it was only a wording issue) I would have been able to take appropriate steps. Gnangarra 00:00, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion of WP:BLP/N - I am still learning - though my edit summs of

01:16, 13 January 2008 (hist) (diff) David Hicks‎ (the refrernce cited is for allegations - pls find another reference or discuss on talk page why you think we should put these allegations forward as being proved unsourced)

02:08, 13 January 2008 (hist) (diff) David Hicks‎ (revert - the reference you supply does not contain the "facts" you claim. pls see discussion page)

02:40, 13 January 2008 (hist) (diff) User talk:Gnangarra‎ (→David Hicks allegations: Hopefully someone else will enforce WP:BLP)

do not seem to me typical of "POV warring" - but then what do I know? PresterJohn did the same edit one month later. When I took this issue to ANI I got no response. So at present have no confidence in WP admins enforcing boundaries on editors or my understanding of policies and procedures. See [[2]] for my latest attempt to make sense of this issue.
