Finnish passports are Issued to nationals of Finland for the purpose of international travel. Aside from serving as proof of Finnish nationality, they facilitate the process of securing assistance from Finnish consular officials abroad or other EU-members in case a Finnish consular is absent, if needed. Finnish passports share the standardised layout and burgundy-red design with other EU countries.

According to Henley Visa Restrictions Index research, Finnish citizens have the most travel freedom in the world, together with US and Danish citizens.

[edit] Physical Appearance

Finnish passports are Bordeaux-red, with the Finnish Coat of arms emblazoned in the center of the front cover. The words "Euroopan unioni" (Finnish) and "Europeiska unionen" (Swedish) meaning (English:European Union) is inscribed above the coat of arms and the words "Suomi - Finland" the country's name in (Finnish) and (Swedish) and the words "Passi - Pass" in (Finnish) and (Swedish) meaning (English:Passport) is inscribed below the coat of arms. Finnish e-passport has the standard biometric symbol at the top. Finnish passports use the standard EU design.

According to a study done by Henley & Partners, Finland has a Henley Visa Restrictions Index of 130, which means that Finnish citizens enjoy visa-free access to 130 countries and territories for short-term tourism visits. Finland shares the 1st place with Denmark and the United States in terms of international travel freedom.
