Austrian passports are issued to citizens of Austria to facilitate international travel.

[edit] Physical Appearance

Austrian passports are burgundy in colour like other European passports and with the Austrian Coat of arms emblazoned in the centre of the front cover. The words "EUROPÄISCHE UNION" (English:European Union) and "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH" (English: Republic of Austria) is inscribed above the coat of arms and the words "REISEPASS" and "PASSPORT" are inscribed below the coat of arms. Austrian passports have the standard biometric symbol at the bottom and use the standard EU design.

According to a study done by Henley & Partners, Austria has a Henley Visa Restrictions Index of 125, which means that Austrian citizens enjoy visa-free access to 125 countries and territories for short-term tourism visits. Austria is ranked 6th in the study in terms of international travel freedom.
