Fanano is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Modena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 50 km southwest of Bologna and about 50 km south of Modena. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,999 and an area of 89.8 km².[1]
Fanano borders the following municipalities: Cutigliano, Fiumalbo, Lizzano in Belvedere, Montese, San Marcello Pistoiese, Sestola.
It is located in the Modenese Apennines. The Monte Cimone is in its territory.
