CJGV is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 99.1 FM in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The station considers itself a jazz radio station, but plays music more in the easy listening pop and smooth jazz categories. It is called Groove FM and is owned by Corus Entertainment.
[edit] History
The station signed on in early 2003 on 99.1 FM, which was the former home in Winnipeg of CKO for a short period in 1988 and 1989. Originally CJZZ was broadcast from the Starbuck Communications Tower, but Canwest found this caused multipath to occur, so they applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to broadcast from a new transmitter that Rogers was putting up[1], and to decrease the EIRP from 100,000 to 63,700 watts.[2]
On January 9, 2007 CJZZ-FM added Dolby Pro Logic noise reduction to its signal.
In September 2006, Corus Entertainment, already owner of Winnipeg's CJOB and CJKR-FM, announced it would buy CJZZ and Kitchener's CKBT-FM, from CanWest, subject to CRTC approval. The transaction was approved by the CRTC on July 6, 2007. Corus Entertainment officially took ownership of CJZZ on July 29, 2007.
On November 5, 2007, the station went on the air for the first time as the newly rebranded Groove FM, as Canwest owned the name "Cool" and was still being used for CoolTV. Its call letters were also changed with the station now known as CJGV-FM. The format remains unchanged.
