[edit] 2006 accident
In the evening of 18 October 2006, Tan Jee Suan, 46, was killed at the MRT station after being hit by a train going towards Boon Lay. The victim was suspected of committing suicide, aggravated by poverty. He had died with little more than ten dollars in his pocket. Train services towards Jurong East were disrupted. Upon hearing about the plight of the victim's family, the public donated money to the widow which amounted to more than S$500,000 by the fourth day of the wake. [1][2]
This accident is also made unusually significant by the Wee Shu Min elitism scandal.
