Hi - I see you have recently created a new stub type. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 01:38, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Possible adoption

I saw that you are open to adoptions. I am interested in being adopted. To tell you a little, I am not computer savy in the least. I recently started creating a page for one of my profs at school and I am completely stumped at the proper format (template) and adding a picture. I would love it if you could help lead me in the right direction. Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Louwanda (talkcontribs) 19:06, 22 April 2007 (UTC).

Thanks so much for agreeing to help. I really appreciate it. I am having both some minor and major problems. I am attempting to set up a page for one of my collegues and I have put in the information and the formatting is all wrong (in other words, it does not look like other pages). also, I tried putting a picture and it takes up the entire page. How can these things be remedied? Should I just start over?Louwanda 04:20, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, I really did not use a template, so I think that is the problem. Is there a template page that is available so that I can just enter information in the designated spots?Louwanda 19:25, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Again, thanks for your help. I did the best I could with the template that you gave me along with the information that I have on Feagin. I have just a couple more questions about the page. I notice that most pages have a 'content' are that has headings and subheadings, do I need that and how do I do it? If you can look over some of the changes I have made and give me some feedback.. I have absolutely no idea what I am doing?Louwanda 05:21, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Once I am ready for my page to show up permanently, how do I make this a permanent link?

Accept- Thank you very much. S234 05:38, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey can you adopt me as well? I'm a chronologically older user (joined 2 years ago?), but I don't have a lot of actual experience on Wikipedia nor with computer blogging and hypertext in general (as evidenced by my lack/misuse of vocabulary!). I noticed that you like astronomy-I do too! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Louanna007 (talkcontribs) 20:35, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

How do I obtain copyright information for my photo or get it so that it is not deleted? I obtained the photo from Dr. Feagin for use with this site.Louwanda 03:24, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:Biography

Hey, I've notice that you've been doing a lot of assessments for the WP:BIO drive. You might be intersted in the this tool, developed by Outriggr for the first drive. It allows for much simpler assessment of articles, and generally speeds up the whole process. Instructions for using the tool are located on the page I linked. Carom 15:27, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] United States men's national soccer team

Hi, I saw that you have given United States men's national soccer team a GA rating recently. However, I cannot find the GA review that allows the article to receive a GA rating. Can you explain to me why you give that article a GA rating? OhanaUnited 09:14, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

I revert this because it's for good faith. It seems like you haven't fully understand the assessment system. Anything over B-Class (that is GA, A, and FA) requires nomination and review before they can be promoted to that class. It cannot be promoted in an instant. I'll leave a note as reminder on the biography drive's page to remind others about this. Keep up your good work in assessing articles. OhanaUnited 16:57, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Biography ratings

Hi, I've been checking the logs of the Biography project, and I've come across several of your ratings. Apparently, you've missed the part that articles have to undergo a formal review before they can be assessed as GA, A, or FA class. These reviews can be found at WP:GAN, WP:BIOAR and WP:FAC. Please do not rate articles above B-class unless that status is approved in a formal review (for which you can find the procedure in the links I provided). Thank you. [edit] Your "Longest Autograph Book"

Your "Longest Autograph Book" has been listed for deletion. The whole point of autograph books is to collect signatures from friendly Wikipedians, not to try to make it the longest. Anyway, would you sign my autograph page, please? Thanks! ;-) ANNAfoxlover 00:59, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

I now suggest just moving it so that the main purpose of it is not to be the longest. ANNAfoxlover 01:30, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Excuse me, but your "changing of the description" is not appropriate, and I know it is a lie. You obviously want yours to be the longest, which is not the point of an autograph page, and there is a very little chance that your autograph page will become the longest. I strongly suggest changing the purpose of the autograph book so that it is not meant to be the longest. ANNAfoxlover 19:01, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Frasier shot of second episode.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Frasier shot of second episode.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 10:22, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Still Looking To Adopt?

Hi! I've been using Wikipedia for a while, but just doing minor edits and occaisonally writing articles. I'd like to get more involved, and be able to contribute by formatting, etc. but I am having great multitudes of coding questions. I'd like to be adopted, and you seem like a good adopter for what I'm having problems with. I'm usually on for at least a little while every night, though far less predictably from mid-August until early June. You can just write on my Talk Page; I read it daily. Thanks! Scigirl543 05:50, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption!

Yay! Thank you! First question....How do I put the userbox on that says I have been adopted by you? Scigirl543 00:39, 2 July 2007 (UTC) Okay, I found that code on the adopt-a-user homepage. Thanks! Scigirl543 00:47, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Confirming Identity

I saw that you had Userboxes that comfirm your identity under this username on other Wikimedia projects...Is there a way to confirm your identity under your username on another language's wikipedia? Or a minor Wiki (I frequently contribute to ForensicsWiki)? Scigirl543 00:54, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] How do you Nominate a page for deletion?

I'm sorry to ask so many questions so quickly, but I was working on the ForensicsWiki, and many of the pages are created by spammers and have no relation to the topic of the Wiki. I read somewhere that only admins can delete a page, but I don't know who the admins are, or how to find them. Is there another way to ask for the deletion of a page? Scigirl543 01:22, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] No Admins?

Is it possible that a wiki would not have any admins, or would have been abandoned by any admins that it had? While I was looking for a list of them, I found that the main page (which I never go to because it's a long address to type, so I just have a favorites list marking to my user page) has been edited only by vandals and spammers (who deleted the actual contents on their first edit) since December 2005. It's currently just a list of ads (I'm going to try to revert it). If there were any admins, wouldn't they have caught this somehow by now? I'm really confused...The wiki is for people involved in Speech and Debate to share/find information on their events, the people going to nationals, etc. so it's frequently vandalized (and I seem to be one of very few actual editors, but that's all the more reason to stay because lots of people use it for reference), but the Main Page being changed to a list of ads is a fairly major problem. Also, how do you report vandalism? I saw a code somewhere that you should put on the page, along with their IP address, but now I can't find it again. Hmm...Scigirl543 02:29, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 03:35, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

I see that you included your recent reviews for the drive. However, some of your reviews occurred in June. To receive the awards, the reviews have to take place between July and August 12. I hope you continue to keep reviewing, and good job so far. --Nehrams2020 04:39, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm slightly concerned in your review on Talk:Atlantic City, New Jersey#GA Review. I have found a non-free use image with no fair use rationale Image:Acdiablos.jpg, which will fail GA promotion. Another concern is that I found no references in "Popular culture references" section. You can help bring it back to GA status by adding fair use rationale to the image and find references for that heading. Otherwise I will fail the article within 5 days. Hello, Bernstein2291. As you're probably aware, an anon editor un-linked your spoken version of Meteorological history of Hurricane Katrina from it's source article with the edit comment "deleted audio file (numerous mistakes)". I've just completed a review of your recording (which I haven't yet posted), and while the recording does contain some mistakes and technical problems, it is fundamentally a good recording, which just needs two things: the re-recording of a few sentences to fix some mistakes, and a bit of editing to resolve some technical issues. I'd be happy to do the editing, if you'd be willing to make a short recording of only the bits that need to be re-done (I can let you know what they are). If you're interested in doing this, please let me know. Once we've done a little work on it, we should be able to re-link your recording to it's article. -- Macropode 08:39, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unusual Adoption Request

Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.

Thank you!

[edit] An important letter

Dear roads editor,

You may have noticed some changes at WP:USRD lately. Some of them, like the cleanup templates and the stub templates, have been astounding and great. Unfortunately, others have been disturbing.

This has become evidenced by the departure of a few prominent editors at USRD, a few RFC's, and much fighting among USRD editors.

After the second RFC, many of us found the opportunity to take a step away from Wikipedia for a while--as a self-imposed wikibreak, or possibly on vacation.

The result of such introspection was that many of us were placing ourselves in a "walled garden" and on a self-imposed pedestal of authority over the roads department. Also, we were being hostile to a few users who were not agreeing with us.

In fact, IRC has been the main incarnation of this "walled garden." Decisions have been made there to conduct grudges and prejudices against a few valued USRD users with poor justification.

For this, we have come to apologize. We have come to ask your forgiveness.

In addition to this, we hope to work as one USRD team from now on and to encourage cooperation instead of the promotion of interests.

All users are welcome to collaborate on IRC, the newsletter, or anywhere else at USRD.

In the future, please feel free to approach us about any issues you may have.

Regards,

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:200px-Visionarium.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:200px-Visionarium.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 21:53, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:200px-Visionarium.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:200px-Visionarium.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:45, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Frasier_shot_of_when_niles_met_daphne.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Frasier_shot_of_when_niles_met_daphne.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Thank you. Rettetast 10:08, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Image:200px-Visionarium.jpg and Image:Mount_Prometheus_Concept_Art.jpg are tagged in the same way. Rettetast 10:15, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Possibly unfree Image:Oyster_Bay-Rye_bridge.gif

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Oyster_Bay-Rye_bridge.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Rettetast 10:13, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:NYTimeswebpage.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:NYTimeswebpage.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:13, 21 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 10:13, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Frasier shot of when niles met daphne.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Frasier shot of when niles met daphne.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 15:13, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vote for a post-meetup restaurant

I'm charged with making the reservations for us, so let's make it official. We'll do this via voting and everyone including anonymous voters, sockpuppets, and canvassed supporters is enfranchised. Voting irregularities and election fraud are encouraged as that would be really amusing in this instance. Please vote for whichever restaurant you would like to eat at given the information provided above and your own personal prejudices at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC#Let's make it official. The prevailing restaurant will be called first for the reservation. If a reservation cannot be obtained at the winning restaurant, the runner-up restaurant will be called thus making this entire process pointless. Voting ends 24 hours after this timestamp (because I said so). ScienceApologist (talk) 17:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Template:Miami Dolphins Fan

A tag has been placed on Template:Miami Dolphins Fan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).
