Yugoslavia first participated at the Olympic Games in 1920. Previously, two athletes from Serbia had competed at the 1912 Summer Olympics. (Serbia will once again compete under that name at the 2008 Summer Olympics.)

Due to the breakup of Yugoslavia after the Yugoslav wars, all successor nations have participated as independent teams. The Yugoslav Olympic Committee organized the country's representation.
