Greece was home of the Ancient Olympic Games, and was therefore a natural choice as host nation for the revival of the modern Olympic Games in 1896. The nation has competed at every Summer Olympic Games since then, and most Winter Olympic Games since 1936.
The nation has hosted the Games twice: the inaugural 1896 Summer Olympics and the 2004 Summer Olympics, both in Athens.
Greek athletes have won a total of 104 medals, with athletics and weightlifting as the top medal-producing sports.
The National Olympic Committee for Greece is the Comité Olympique Hellénique, and was created in 1894.
