York Regional Road 19, locally known as Green Lane, is an east-west regional road located at the southern edge of the town of East Gwillimbury. Green Lane maintains its status as a regional road for 8.3 km[1], though it physically extends for 21.1 km[2]. Green Lane is the current terminus of Highway 404.

Green Lane’s status as a regional road begins at its intersection with Bathurst Street, in the southwestern edge of East Gwillimbury. The road is quite rural, full of trees and forests, for about 1 km. There is a sudden change in scenery with heavy commercial activity at Yonge Street, just south of Green Lane, including a large shopping complex and a Silvercity movie theatre. The north side of Yonge & Green Lane features a gas station and some farmlands, but is otherwise quite barren.
Green Lane continues east and is quite rural, even though there are suburban housing developments roughly 0.5 km south, in northern Newmarket. The East Gwillimbury Go station is located near the intersection of Green Lane and Main Street/2nd Concession Road. The Holland River runs parallel to Green Lane, just east of Main Street/2nd Concession Road; this area also features the Rogers Reservoir Conservation Area and a nature trail. Green Lane continues to Woodbine Avenue, where it loses its status as a regional road.
Highway 404's terminus is located on Green Lane, between Leslie and Woodbine. Thus, traffic on Green Lane is very heavy. However, there are plans to extend Highway 404 as far north as Ravenshoe Road by 2012[3].
Green Lane extends west of Bathurst for about 2 km; it loses its regional road status and is renamed “Miller’s Sideroad”. It is a very hilly, gravel track that ends in a T-intersection with Dufferin Street. Green Lane extends east of Woodbine for about 11 km as “Herald Road”. This is a hilly, rural road that exits York Region altogether and leads to Sandford.

The East Gwillimbury Go train station is located on Green Lane, near Main Street/2nd Concession Road. Two Go buses travel on or through Green Lane. Route 65 connects Newmarket to Bradford and Barrie, while Route 69 connects Newmarket to Sutton and Beaverton[4].
Four York Region Transit routes provide transportation along Green Lane[5]. Routes 52 and 58/58A connect Holland Landing and Sharon, respectively, to the aforementioned Go station. Route 98 runs for a few hundred meters at Yonge Street and heads almost as far south as Elgin Mills. Route 69, integrated with the aforementioned Go transit route, connects Newmarket to Sutton and Beaverton.
Green Lane is officially categorized as a Class 1 road[6], meaning that the speed limit is 80 km/h, and the average daily usage exceeds 12,000 vehicles.
