1440 WNFL is an all-sports radio station located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The station is locally owned and operated by Midwest Communications, which owns six other stations in Northeast Wisconsin. WNFL is an affiliate of Fox Sports Radio, carrying their entire line-up as well as the local "Maino & Nick" morning show and the Dan Patrick show, distributed by Premiere Radio Networks.
In addition to the station's sports-talk offerings, WNFL has the rights to broadcast Milwaukee Bucks play-by-play as well as mid-day Milwaukee Brewers games during the work week. During the fall and winter seasons, WNFL also carries play-by-play of local high school football and basketball games. Beginning in the 2008 season, WNFL will also become the flagship station for Green Bay Bullfrogs broadcasts with Bullfrogs announcer Matt Menzel on the play-by-play.
WNFL's studios and transmitter are located on Bellevue Street in the Green Bay suburb of Bellevue. Weather updates are provided by the "FOX 11 Severe Weather Lab" at WLUK-TV.
[edit] History
The station went on the air in 1947 as WJPG-AM, owned by the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The call letters changed to WNFL-AM during the Green Bay Packers' championship runs in the late 1960's.
WNFL was acquired by Midwest Communications in 1996, along with sister stations WNCY-FM and WROE-FM.
