I propose the removal of the companies in this section and of Urbanrenewal username Review commentary on the individual pages and review content presented. Concensus of wikipedia users have disagreed with efforts of the above contributor to list these topics as spam. The articles (to the extent they have been recently revised) are now encyclopedic, well-balanced, referenced and based on notable organizations and these organizations do not belong on this list with real spammers.

Additionally, review Urbanrenewal's contributions - again they are referencd, well balanced and focused on notable organizations.

  • From my reading of guidelines there is no objection to creating pages related to different subjects in the same general area. The firms listed are not related to each other. I have no connection with the other accounts and the timing of my recent activity was timed to coincide with nomination of certain pages for deletion. I took it upon myself to fix and balance articles that were objectionable. Fansite spam

I have seen over the last year or so spam from what appears to all be the same company's "fan sites". They are mostly just link aggregators. None of them are affiliated with the athlete in question. They have been spammed here and to the tagalog Wikipedia (http://tl.wikipedia.org) by a variety of IPs. I've removed them on and off when I have noticed them. The user re-inserts a community site which he hosts to multiple articles. To me, there are issues here with WP:COI (per comments here), WP:ELNO (items #4 and #10), and WP:NOT#REPOSITORY.
I've reverted the additions to Rainbow Family, but have held off from removing it from other articles where it's attached as I noticed in the external links report a mention of Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-07-01 national rainbow gatherings. This seems a funny one. A couple of days ago 12.21.9.62 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • what links to user page • COIBot • count • block log • x-wiki • search an, ani, cn, an3 • LinkWatcher search || WHOIS • RDNS • traceroute • CompleteWhois • ippages.com • robtex.com • tor • Google • AboutUs) removed a bunch of ELs from U.S. Route 66 claiming spammers diff when at least 2 links were perfectly legit (1 of the others was out of date, 1 wasn't spam but dubious value, and 1 borderline case). The added in a new and pointless paragraph citing historic66.com twice as a reference diff. Spidey sense time.

A bunch of other ELs scattered around (a web citation taking to their Amazon affiliate buy a CD-ROM page on Meramec Caverns for example), so far they seem of little real value and the domain seems to have a dubious history - I'll be careful with what I remove as I poke around but they seem to have no real value and a dubious domain history.

Spam as references?

I'm conflicted about what to do here. Every one of Danpoulton (talk · contribs)'s edits has inserted a link to a website called gameslayer.co.uk, but as a inline citation. Some of them have added text as well, either via sentence [8] [9] [10], or a whole paragraph [11] [12] [13] [14], though most include just adding his link as a standard inline citation (such as in this edit). Some douchenozzle at the IP address 207.59.144.80 has been adding links to completely content-free wanna-be "community sites" to the articles for various east-coast communities.   • Found this while tagging accounts on the Asphalt article. Logan41 added a ecopave Wordpress site recently, and Wikisurfer87 recereated the Geo320 article a few weeks ago and Mickey715 added ecopave.com.au in March. Boomerang

I recently had cause to read the boomerang article and found a particular external website linked throughout the article's body. I removed the offending links, but a look through the history shows that one ore more individuals are repeatedly adding links to the same website. Mindfulness spam link to the contributer's own blog

I'm removing what I consider a spam link (& conflict of interest issue) with a user User talk:Dgodot who I believe is the author of the blog that is being linked to in the article Mindfulness. The blog entry adds nothing substantive to the article and there are too many links in the article as it is. The blog links to the author's other commercial/professional sites. Dgodot has been reverting my edits saying that his blog entry has a perspective not currently present in the article. Several IP addresses (and initially User:Gremplar) are repeatedly adding this site to antenna measurement and moving it to the top of the list of links in an apparent attempt at promotion. I have warned two of the offending IP addresses, and on my final warning to User:81.152.171.33, I received the snarky reply that I would have trouble blocking them because they were using an internet cafe to insert the spam. Fair enough since the addresses vary so much, but the site itself could still be blacklisted.

TV Licensing in UK

IP pushing their links hard, 4 links already blacklisted on en (in two batches of 2). The first two were blacklisted after the links were first reverted by XLinkBot, a block of the first IP and a new IP taking over the link additions. For the second I have not waited that long (though others were very busy reverting the editors).

The first two are on the same server (212.227.193.222).

Stephen Short

Hi everyone. Today I was perusing around Wikipedia, and in particular, the article on Augustana (band). I had recently attended one of their shows in Detroit and was interested in reading a bit more about them. In the course of reading, I followed a link to their manager, Stephen Short. I read Stephen's article and felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up at how obvious it was written by himself as an autobiography and self promotional material. Further investigation into article history proved my suspicions. The user's identity can be confirmed through the photo included on the Stephen Short article, Image:Stephen Short Trident.jpg which is noted as being self-made and taken by User:ManbirS. ManbirS's contributions show an extensive edit history of his own article as well as several of the bands he represents. In fact, he is the contributor 90% of the time to article's he does edit and on more than a few occasions has shown that he WP:own's the article.

I am deeply concerned about this sort of editing on Wikipedia. I appreciate the sentiment of WP:SOAP in that if you're famous enough, others will write your own article. Direct involvement in an article by oneself is more or less disrespectful of the Wikipedia project and ideals.

I'm not sure what should be done in this case as surely himself and the bands he represents are notable enough, given that Augustana does have some Top 20 hits and touring, but Mr Short's (or his surrogates) edits are not limited to merely correcting factual errors but are promotional in nature and scope.
