[edit] History
Augustana's debut album, Midwest Skies and Sleepless Mondays was released in 2003 and only 1000 copies were produced. After band members Dan Layus and Josiah Rosen had formed Augustana in Greenville, Illinois[2], they moved to southern California where they found their drummer, Justin South. Augustana were then soon discovered by Grammy-Award winning record producer Stephen Short, along with Michael Rosenblatt, who became their managers and helped them sign a record deal with Epic Records as well as a publishing deal with EMI. Short and Rosenblatt continue to manage the band.[3] The band found fame with their second album, All the Stars and Boulevards, which sold 300,000 copies in the United States, including over 1,000,000 singles of "Boston".
The band have been featured on numerous tours with artists such as Switchfoot, The Fray, Counting Crows, Dashboard Confessional, O.A.R., Snow Patrol, The Damnwells, Goo Goo Dolls, Acceptance, and Cartel as well as having their own headlining tours.
[edit] All the Stars and Boulevards - present
All the Stars and Boulevards was released September 6, 2005 and reached #1 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and #96 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.[4] The first single from the album, Boston, was released in 2005. It was a different version from the one on their debut album, Midwest Skies and Sleepless Mondays. The album was re-released on September 12, 2006 and was announced through the band's MySpace page. The album was made available exclusively at Best Buy stores. It was also available on the Best Buy website, where it was sold out by the following day. The new features on this re-release are: a re-mixed version of "Wasteland", a new track named "Marie", acoustic versions of "Boston" and "Stars and Boulevards", and music videos for "Boston" and "Stars and Boulevards".
Josiah Rosen left the band in April 2006 and has independently released his first solo record, "A Memoir," under the name The Last Almanac.
At the beginning of 2007, the band embarked on their second headlining theatre tour, supported by Vega 4. The band also opened for Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional on his first solo tour since the release of The Swiss Army Romance, in late 2007.
The band released a new album titled "Can't Love, Can't Hurt" on April 29, 2008. The first single from the album is titled "Sweet and Low".
On May 1, 2008, the band appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
On May 5, 2008, the song "Twenty Years" appeared on One Tree Hill.
