[edit] Introduction
Welcome to the Roads in Maryland WikiProject! We're trying to provide information on all of Maryland's state highways, U.S. highways, Interstate highways, and other notable roads. This page and its subpages contain our suggestions and tools for working on this project. It is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and/or see #Tasks below to see what needs to be done. You should also check out /Editing guide for advice on contributing, and if you plan on contributing a lot, please join by adding your name to #Participants. Also, it is recommended that {{Project U.S. Roads}} and/or {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Roads in Maryland/Userbox}} be placed on all participants' user pages (or subpages).
For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.
[edit] Title
The Roads in Maryland WikiProject
This project name was chosen as it reflects this project's intention to cover all articles relating to roads in Maryland, and not just state highways.
[edit] Scope
The purpose of the project is to define a standard style for articles on roads in Maryland and to encourage participation in the editing of these articles.
Articles covered by this project include all Maryland state highway articles, as well as Maryland-specific Interstate and U.S. highway articles, and other Maryland road-related articles (such as the Intercounty Connector, and Maryland State Highway Administration). A complete list of articles that are marked as part of this WikiProject can be found at Category:Roads in Maryland WikiProject.
Maryland-specific Interstate and U.S. highway articles should only be created for long routes that go through several states including Maryland, and their section through Maryland is long and/or notable enough for its own article. For example, Maryland-specific Interstate 83 and U.S. Route 113 articles should not be created unless these routes become lengthened through several other states. Likewise, a U.S. Route 522 in Maryland article would also be inappropriate as the section of US 522 through Maryland is pretty short. The purpose of such state-specific articles is to break up what would otherwise be a long article. If a route only goes through one or two states or if the section of a route through the state in question is too short, state-specific articles are unnecessary.
