From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome to WikiProject Louisiana Highways. Some Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Louisiana Highways and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.
The primary list page for this project is List of numbered highways in Louisiana.

[edit] Scope
The purpose of this WikiProject is to create, standardize, and improve articles about the state highway system in Louisiana. This project will encompass all the Louisiana State Highways, the U.S. Routes and Interstate Highways that are predominantly located in Louisiana (like Interstate 49) and any other unusual routes in the state; important named freeways are also included.
[edit] Goals
To organize, standardize, and expand the articles on Louisiana Highways.
[edit] Participants
To sign up for this project, please visit Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Participants, sign up, and add "LA" as one of your projects.
[edit] Structure
Articles are be named "Louisiana Highway x" (where x is the route number) per WP:USSH. Shields for most routes have been made and are named "Louisiana x.svg". Visit the Shields task force request page to request missing shields.
To maintain a consistent format, articles will be organized in the order shown below.
[edit] Infobox
Required. See the Infoboxes section below.
[edit] Lead
Required. An untitled section (known as the lead) that describes the route. Depending on the route, this section may just name the direction (E/W or N/S) and termination points, or may go into considerable detail. However, the majority of detail, such as progress by town or parish, should be reserved for the next section. Use WP:LEAD as a loose guideline on what to place in this section.
[edit] Route description
Required. This section is for describing the route itself and its progression across the parishes of Louisiana. This section should be broken up by parishes or other suitable segments using third-level headlines. If the route is contained entirely in one parish, then it is not necessary to give said parish a third-level headline. Regardless of the route's length, progression should be described from south to north, west to east.
[edit] History
Optional, but strongly recommended. Place any historical information about the route here. Ensure that proper, reliable references are added.
[edit] Future
Optional. Place any confirmed (no speculation) information about the future of the route here. Again, ensure that proper, reliable references are added.
[edit] Miscellanea
Optional, but discouraged. Any trivia or facts about a route should be placed in this section. Limit usage of this section to a minimum - the Good Article and Featured Article processes frown at articles with trivia sections. Instead of using this section, consider incorporating its potential contents into other sections of the article.
[edit] Junction list
Required. The contents of this section may vary by route. If the road is predominantly a freeway, title the section "Exit list" and make an exit list designed in accordance with the the exit list guide. If the road is predominantly an at-grade highway, title the section "Major intersections" and make a table for at-grade intersections based on the exit list guide (same columns but omit the exit column). Intersections in this form of table should generally be limited to major roadways, such as other signed routes. If the route is just as much an expressway as it is an at-grade road, then use common sense to separate the table into sections where needed.
[edit] See also
Optional. Place all internal links here.
[edit] References
Required. Place all references here, using the <ref></ref> tags in the article and {{reflist}} in this section.
[edit] External links
Optional. Place all external links which are not references here.
[edit] Open tasks
A redirect page should be made for each LA route where if a user searches for "LA 8", Louisiana Highway 8 should pop up. If there is already an article for the redirect page, make a disambiguation page or place a disambiguation tag at the top of the article. The WikiProject's completion list will show any redirects that need to be made.

[edit] Infoboxes
The infobox for state highways is {{Infobox LA Highway}}. For U.S. routes entirely within Louisiana, or for state-detail articles, use {{Infobox road}} with "state=LA" and "type=US". For Interstate Highways entirely within Louisiana, or for state-detail articles, use {{Infobox Interstate/Intrastate}} with "state=LA". See each infobox for usage instructions and examples.
[edit] Stub template
These should be placed at the bottom of articles relating to Louisiana Highways that are stubs. Articles with this tag are listed in Category:Southern United States road stubs.
[edit] Project template
{{U.S. Roads WikiProject|state=LA}}
Place this template at the top of all talk pages of articles within the scope of this project.

[edit] Categories
All state highways are to be placed in Category:State highways in Louisiana. To do this, add [[Category:State highways in Louisiana|xxx]] to the bottom of all state highway articles, where "xxx" is the three-digit sortkey. Louisiana Highway 1 would be "001", Louisiana Highway 10 would be "010", Louisiana Highway 100 would be "100", and so forth. For hyphenated routes, use the format "xxx-x".
