Welcome to the Washington State Highway WikiProject!
Hello and welcome to the WikiProject Washinton State Highway page! If you would like to help, please jump in and start adding or editing. If you would like to join the group, please sign up at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Participants.
This month's selected article from WP:WASH:

In the U.S. state of Washington, U.S. Route 2 is the northernmost all-weather highway through the Cascade Mountains. It runs from Everett east to the Idaho state line in Newport, crossing the Cascades at Stevens Pass and passing through Wenatchee and Spokane.

The westernmost point of US 2 is the city of Everett in Snohomish County.

From the highway's terminus at SR 529 in Everett, US 2 runs along California Street westbound and Hewitt Avenue eastbound.[1][2] The roadway then ascends to a short freeway and has an interchange with Interstate 5 0.13 miles east of this terminus.

Leaving downtown Everett/I-5, the highway crosses the Snohomish River and goes across the river valley to the northern (compass east) side of the valley. It stays to the north of the river valley for 27.8 miles before it crosses the Skykomish River near Gold Bar.

[edit] Scope

Numbered Washington State routes as designated by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). This includes all signed routes (such as Washington State Route 99), former routes (such as Primary State Highway 1 (Washington) or Washington State Route 111), and proposed routes (such as Washington State Route 704).

Basically, the purpose of this project is to clean up the Washington State Highway articles (Washington State Route articles) and make them conform to the same structure just like the California State Highways WikiProject.

[edit] Resources

[edit] Highways to include

This WikiProject includes all Interstate, US, and state highways in the state of Washington.

However, multi-state US highways (2, 12, 95, 97, 101, 195, 197, 395) and multi-state Interstate highways (5, 82, 90, and 205) are also under those WikiProjects. For these multi-state routes, under route description, make a sub-heading for Washington and put the route description, state law, leg. history, etc. in there. Do not put {{routeboxwa}} on these pages, use {{Infobox Interstate}} or {{Infobox U.S. Route}} instead.

Intrastate routes, such as Interstate 405 and Interstate 705 are part of this WikiProject, and follow the structure (and the infobox) provided in this WikiProject.

Refer to the completion list to see which articles have been started.

[edit] Structure

The best example of an article that follows this format is Washington State Route 525.

Articles should best start with a short description of the state highway. This description should say where the route begins and ends, as well as any discontinuities, as defined by law. Unique details about this route may be added, but use sparingly.

[edit] Route description

A physical description of the route should be given here. Cities and communities the route traverses should be mentioned here, as well as segments of freeway.

[edit] History

The history of this route number should be discussed here.

[edit] Major intersections or Exit list

This section contains a table that lists all the junctions on the article route, following the exit list guide. Every junction with another numbered highway should be listed here, as well as every exit on controlled access portions of the route. The table should contain the following columns:

  • County
  • Location
  • Exit # where appropriate
  • Mile
  • Roads/Destinations (Use Roads for lists that are primarily intersections; use Destinations for lists that are primarily exit lists.)
  • Notes

[edit] Related routes

This section contains the "related routes" template, which lists all routes with the same parent as the article route (or all the child routes of the article route). The format for the template is:

{{3dwa|type=|route=}}

where type= is the parent route's type (either Interstate, U.S., or State), and route= is the parent route.

[edit] See also

This is where all internal links should be placed. Articles without an infobox should include List of Washington State Routes here.

[edit] References

If <ref> tags are used in the article (frequently providing a source for the length in the infobox), do not forget to include <references /> here.

[edit] External links

This is where all external links should be placed. Government or official links should go first. Road enthusiasts links should follow.

External links to points of interests should also go here.

[edit] Naming of articles

Per WP:USSH, the naming convention for state highways in Washington is Washington State Route X.

Redirects from alternate names should be created using the completion list.

Road Type Article Location Example
TX specific 2 digit interstate located in multiple states Interstate X in Washington Interstate 5 in Washington
3 digit interstate with only occurance in WA Interstate X Interstate 182
3 digit interstate with occurances in other states Interstate X (Texas) Interstate 405 (Washington)

[edit] What these arguments do

  • type: The type of route the article is about: WA, US, or Interstate
  • route: The number of the route the article is about
  • sec: The section of the RCW that describes the article route. Use List of State Route RCW Entries to look it up. For spurs not listed in the code, use the section for the mainline route instead. Use only the last part of the section number; for example "785" for 47.17.785.
  • parent: The route that the article route is a child of (that the number is based on). For example, I-5 for SR 539.
  • parent_type: The type of route for the parent route
  • length_mi: The length of the route in miles
  • length_ref: A reference for the route length, using <ref></ref> tags.
  • length_round: The number of decimal places the length measurement is accurate to
  • formed: Year the route was established
  • dir1: Either West or South
  • dir2: Either East or North
  • from: The western or southern terminus of the route using: (a) a shield image, (b) a link to the route article, (c) the city/town where the junction is located (wikilinked, of course)
  • junction: major junctions listed using the same format (image/route link/city link) separated with a line break (<br>)
  • to: The eastern or northern terminus, using the same format again
  • previous_type: The type of the previous route numerically
  • previous_route: The number of the previous route numerically
  • next_type: The type of the next route numerically
  • next_route: The number of the next route numerically

[edit] What goes in the browse part

To see what the previous and next routes should be for a given route, use the master list, which lists all routes that should be included in the browsing order.
