Welcome to WikiProject New Mexico. Some Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of the state of New Mexico (history, geography, biographies, and more) and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.

Contents

[edit] Goals

  • The goal of this WikiProject is to provide complete coverage on subjects related to New Mexico, by expanding articles on people, places, and things resident or native to New Mexico.

[edit] Scope

  • This project proposes to work with all pages related to the state of New Mexico, its history, geography, and people.

[edit] Guidelines

  • All settlements should have {{Infobox City}}
  • All bios should have an appropriate biographical infobox
  • Other articles for which infoboxes exist should have them (sports teams, legislature, etc.)
  • All articles should be properly categorized, and have a {{WikiProject New Mexico}} on their talk page
  • Stubs should be properly sorted
  • Spanish names and terms should be given with the proper diacritics where applicable.

[edit] Open tasks

To-do list for Wikipedia:WikiProject New Mexico:

Here are some tasks you can do:
  • Verify: New Mexican cuisine
  • Cleanup: Add city infobox to all town/city articles missing one. Add appropriate bio infobox to all NM bio articles missing one. Check all NM articles for proper categorization (it is "off" in many cases).
  • Stubs: Tag all NM stub articles with the proper stub tags (and identify short articles that have no stub tags at all yet but need one).
  • Update: Tag all relevant articles' talk pages with {{WikiProject New Mexico}} (and add features to that template to distinguish page types).

Note: To Watch this to-do list, click on "watch" at top right of this table. Watching the page it is transcluded on won't watch the to-do list.

All members should always feel free to patrol the recent changes list to note improvements, other changes, or vandalism of articles within the scope of this project.

[edit] "Did you know?" articles (WP:DYK)

[edit] New articles

Please feel free to list your new New Mexico-related articles here (newer articles at the top, please). Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box the Main Page. Please also make sure that each new article created is put into one of the categories for New Mexico, so that the articles will appear there.

[edit] Departments

[edit] Assessment

Rates articles for both quality and importance to this project. Assessment is not peer review (see below), but a quick rating of the article and (where warranted) brief comments on how to improve the article.

  • 1 request at this time

[edit] Collaboration of the week

  • No requests or collaborations at this time

[edit] In-project peer review

Peer review of articles for areas for improvement, performed by this project rather than Wikipedia-wide; good for both a first take on Start-class articles, and for focused improvement efforts before Good Article and Featured Article review. In contrast to Wikipedia-wide peer review, which focuses on Wikipedia standards, in-project peer review typically focuses on the quality of the article from a topical standpoint; both are equally valuable but very different review processes. In contrast to assessment, peer review is a detailed review.

  • No requests at this time

[edit] Templates

[edit] Stubs

{{NewMexico-stub}} for the bottom of very short articles:

There are also {{NewMexico-geo-stub}} for locations and {{NewMexico-politician-stub}} for (obviously) politicians.

NOTE: Stubs are managed by the Stub-sorting WikiProject. Before creating a new stub, you should propose it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. See Wikipedia:Stub for general guidelines on proposing stub templates and categories. DO NOT simply create new stub templates, as these will be deleted.

[edit] Userbox

{{User WikiProject New Mexico}} for your userpage or infobox subpage (puts you into Category:WikiProject New Mexico participants automatically):

This user is a participant in WikiProject New Mexico

[edit] WikiProject talk page banner

{{WikiProject New Mexico}} should be placed on the talk pages of relevant articles to put them under the project's radar:

This article is within the scope of WikiProject New Mexico, an attempt to better organize and improve articles related to the U.S. state of New Mexico. Join us on our project talk page.

??? This article has not yet received a rating on the quality scale. If you rate the article please leave a short summary here to explain the ratings and/or to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the article.
??? This article has not yet received a rating on the importance scale.

[edit] Navigation

{{New Mexico}} — use sparingly as it is large. Basically, if the article doesn't appear in the navbox, the navbox should probably not appear on the article.

{{Albuquerque}} — for Albuquerque-related topics.

{{Santa Fe}} — for Santa Fe-related topics.

[edit] Infoboxes

{{Infobox City}}, for all cities and towns. Example to the right:
