| Assessment | Wikipedia:WikiProject Mexico/Assessment |
Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organise information in articles related to Mexico. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page.
For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.
Scope
The WikiProject on Mexico is intended as a central focal point for editors active on Mexico-related articles, placing particular emphasis on standardising terminology and translations and on establishing country-wide strategies for structuring articles, categories, etc.
Departments
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Mexico/Assessment - the assessment unit.
General strategy and discussion forums
- /Terminology: Discussion forum for terminology and translation issues. For example: ministers or secretaries? Federal deputies or congressmen? ¿El jefe delegacional en Álvaro Obregón?
- /Strategy: Strategy and structure. For policy discussions on how to title articles, how to categorise, etc.
- /Community: Noticeboard for editors interested in Mexican articles. Basically, a community forum: use it to list articles you'd like other participants to take a look at or get a second opinion on, call attention to content disputes, post alerts, or advertise your willingness to meet up in (e.g.) Acapulco next month.
Terminology and strategy issues that have been decided on can be listed in the following sections for ease of reference.
Terminology consensus
Cámara de Diputados
The Cámara de Diputados is best translated as Chamber of Deputies. The article is at Chamber of Deputies of Mexico. See related discussion on Talk:Chamber of Deputies. Better non-linear translation: House of Representatives.
Usage of terms related to Aztec and other Mesoamerican cultures
- Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Mesoamerica/Guidelines for terminology conventions and editing guidelines relevant to Mesoamerica-related general and specific content.
- Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Aztec/Terminology for current consensus and discussion on usage related to Aztec terminology in particular.
Strategy consensus
State names
All 31 Mexican states are located at (e.g.) [[Statename]]. See earlier discussion at Talk:States of Mexico.
City names
- When disambiguation is not required, city articles go at their natural location: e.g, Hermosillo, Coatzacoalcos.
- If disambiguation with another city (Mexican or foreign) is needed, use the "comma, state" format: Nogales, Sonora, Nogales, Veracruz, Nogales, Arizona.
- If a state and a city share a name, use the "comma, state" location for the city and the undisambiguated location for the state. e.g., Veracruz, Veracruz (the city) and Veracruz (the state). For ease of linking, most of the conceivable redirects are already in place: Aguascalientes (state), San Luis Potosí (city), etc.
Tables of contents and indexes
The following pages serve as tables of contents or indexes to Mexico-related content on Wikipedia. They need to be developed, and maintained:
- List of basic Mexico topics - for its placement, see Lists of basic topics
- List of Mexico-related topics - needs to be created (see List of Germany-related topics for an example of this type of index page)
