The 2008 Norwegian Premier League season (known as Tippeligaen for sponsorship reasons) began on 29 March 2008 and is scheduled to end on 2 November 2008.[1] Brann are the defending champions, having won their third League Championship in 2008.
In 2009, the number of teams in the Premier League will expand from fourteen to sixteen.[2] To accommodate this expansion, only one team will face automatic relegation to the First Division, as opposed to the regular two, while the three best teams in the First Division will be awarded automatic promotion. As in previous years, there will be a two-legged playoff at the end of the season, this time between the thirteenth-placed team in the Premier League and the fourth best team in the First Division.
