Norwegian First Division 1990

The 1990 season of the Norwegian First Division (1. divisjon) began on April 29, 1990 and ended on 7 October 1990.
22 games were played with 3 points given for wins and 1 for draws. Number eleven and twelve were relegated. The winners of the two groups of the Second Division are promoted, as well as the winner of a series of play-off matches between the two second placed teams in the two groups of the Second Division and number ten in the First Division.
This was the last year the top flight of Norwegian football would be called the First Division. The following year, the league changed its name to Tippeligaen, from its sponsor, Norsk Tipping.

[edit] Promotion and relegation
- Vålerengen and Moss were relegated to the Second Division.
- Sogndal and Lyn were promoted from the Second Division.
- The qualification matches were contested between Lillestrøm (10th in the First Division), Bryne (2nd in the Second Division - Group A), and Eik-Tønsberg (2nd in the Second Division - Group B). Lillestrøm won and stayed in the First Division.
- Match 1: Bryne 5-1 Eik-Tønsberg
- Match 2: Eik-Tønsberg 1-3 Lillestrøm
- Match 3: Lillestrøm 2-0 Bryne
