Maxibon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maxibon is a type of ice cream sandwich made by Nestlé. It consists of a block of ice cream with small lumps of chocolate held deep within a choc-coated and a biscuit end. Rather than a stick or a wafer, the person holds the Maxibon by two slabs of edible cookie dough. A standard Maxibon weighs 100 g and has a volume of about 150 ml. Blocks are shipped into thin plastic bags that may be easily ripped off with both hands. Because of its larger size compared with other ice creams, Maxibon is also usually sold for a higher price. Its name is French for "super good".
[edit] Flavours and guises
Maxibon is now available in several guises and flavours.
Although the standard Maxibon flavour is vanilla, several other limited edition flavours were introduced in the late nineties. Marketed as Maxibon Dare, the concept involved the actual flavour of the ice-cream remaining a mystery until the package was opened.
In addition to the standard size, they are also available in snack sized servings in packets of six; these are substantially smaller than the traditional Maxibon.
There is also a new release Maxibon Cookie, where the ice cream is in a round shape and covered in cookie dough.
[edit] Controversies in popular culture
There is much conjecture surrounding which half of the Maxibon is tastier, with public opinion divided between the choc-coated and biscuit ends.
A public debate still continues whether the Maxi Bon meets up to the Monaco Bar, an ice cream sandwich produced by Peters Ice Cream, an Australian ice cream brand partially owned by Nestlé itself.
