[edit] History
Carnation brand milk products were first produced by the Pacific Coast Condensed Milk Company in Kent, Washington, founded by Elbridge Amos Stuart[1] in 1899. The company was renamed to the Carnation Evaporated Milk Company, and the town of Carnation, Washington, later took its name from the Carnation breeding and research farms located on the outskirts of town.
In the 1950s, the Carnation brand achieved widespread exposure as sponsor of the The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show television program. The red and white Carnation label became a familiar fixture in many American homes.
With the widespread availability of home refrigeration and fresh milk, the demand for evaporated milk has dwindled, and the Carnation brand was acquired by Nestlé as a minor product line in 1985.
