MAT Macedonian Airlines (Macedonian: Македонски Авио Транспорт, Latinic: Makedonski Avio Transport) is the national flag carrier airline of the Republic of Macedonia, based in Skopje. It operates scheduled services between Skopje and Ohrid and several destinations in Europe. Its main base is Skopje Airport.[1]

The airline was established on 16 January 1994 and started operations on 23 June 1994 flying from Skopje to Zürich using a Boeing 737-200. Until 2000.

Mat purchased it's first own aircraft ( CRJ 900 )in April 2006 and there are two more to be delivered (options).

Presently they are purchasing two 737-500 which will be delivered mid June 2008 and mid July 2008.

In 2000 the Government of Republic of Macedonia signed an agreement with MAT that gave MAT the status of National flag carrier for the following 10 years. The management team from MAT had brought new management to help the airline with new aircraft orders and airline restructuring.

Mat- Macedonian Airlines is a share holding private Company, owned by two major stockholders Živko Gruevski (48.43%) and Zlatko Petrovski (48.43%).[1]

Mat - Macedonian Airlines has a codeshare agreement with Swiss Int Airlines to Zurich and with Austrian Airlines to Vienna. Macedonian Airlines is the flag carrier of Macedonia and is the only airline in Macedonia.

MAT "Macedonian" Airlines took delivery of its Bombardier CRJ-900 on April 13, 2006. In addition the contract with Bombardier also included conditional orders for two additional CRJ900. The list price value for the delivered aircraft was approximately $25 million US.[4]
