[edit] Trivium WikiProject

I've been on holiday, and waiting for my new computer to arrive before I can really use Wiki, but there isn't much to update in the articles I do not think, unless we had someone to assess and give us article rankings (GA etc)? ≈ Maurauth (Ravenor) 13:48, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sources vs. unref

Thanks for the tip. As a practical matter, it seems that some little bot goes about making the sources templates into dated unref ones, but I see the difference in wording. Habit is difficult to change, but I'll give it a go trying to move to unref. Happy admining. Erechtheus 00:45, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ask A Chola

I am a comedian with a considerable internet following. I have been featured in magazines and on the radio. Why did you delete my entry in the Wikipedia? Just because you have never heard of me doesn't mean that I don't exist. I was in the process of adding pictures and other references to the entry and you deleted it before I could even do that (within 5 minutes of starting the entry, actually). This is supposed to be a project in which everybody participates. Looking at the other entries on this page, you are a serial deleter. What is going on?? This is an encyclopedia, not a collection of things that "J milburn" thinks are important or cool. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ask A Chola (talkcontribs) 01:05, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

Hi, thanks for spotting that. I am testing out some new code for my interface, and I guess it must have got confused. I'll fix it now. Thanks once again for noticing ck lostswordTC 01:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Myxocyprinus asiaticus

"Nice work on this article- I have been patrolling for hours, and it's the best new article I have seen. Generally, article titles are the English name, and we only use the Latin name if there is no English name. However, this animal has so many common names, I wasn't sure which to move it to. J Milburn 02:50, 22 August 2007 (UTC)"

Thanks for your message (copied from my talk page above). Admittedly, I had difficulty placing it myself. I have to mention also that the spelling variations/word omissions on the common names rather added to that difficulty. Regards, - Dragonbite 03:08, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Chinese general stubs

Thanks, I'm currently mass-producing these to get rid of red links on an article I'm working on. Once I'm done with all of them I will use AWB to quickly assign categories. ;) -- Миборовский 03:27, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Marius de Zayas

Dear J. Milburn. I wrote an entry on Marius de Zayas last night, and it has disappeared. I received a notice from you that some sort of copyright infringement was the reason, but I do not understand how. In the entry, I referred to a book that my subject wrote (published posthumously), which I edited. Perhaps that is the reason. You may have thought I was promoting my own book, which is not the case, since it has long gone out of print. I am willing to remove this reference if necessary, but I would appreciate it if you would please restore the text, for it took a great deal of time and effort to compose it. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter FrancisNaumann 13:34, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Dear Mr. Milburn,

I am the author of entries written on two Mexican caricature artists, Marius de Zayas (1880-1961) and his brother George de Zayas 1898-1967).

I am considered the expert on both artists, having edited a book written by Marius de Zayas in the 1920s (but published by MIT Press in 1996). Having never written entries for Wikipedia before, I found the whole process somewhat confusing, and wonder if someone could look over my two entries and see if they have been done correctly. I tried to include internal references (citations to other Wikipedia entries) within my text, but I may have done it incorrectly, for some show up in blue, while others are still in red. My entry on George de Zayas can be found easily through your search engine, but, for some reason, the one that I wrote on Marius de Zayas cannot. I am also being asked for reliable sources, but I am the only reliable source on these artists, as well as for categories, but I cannot figure out how to provide them.

Clearly I am not an experience Wikipedia writer. For this reason, I need some help. For example, I have images that I should like to insert with the entries (photographs of the artists themselves, as well as examples of their work). How do you insert images? Can I send them to you as attachments through email, and would you -- or someone else working for Wikipedia -- be able to insert them for me?

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Sincerely,

Francis M. Naumann email: francis@francisnaumann.com

PS: By the way, there is also a Wikipedia entry on me.

[edit] Heath Pampas

Hello, I was wondering why you removed the copyvio tag from the Heath Pampas article. The article is a clear copyvio from a website in Spanish probably using an online translator. This is a violation of copyright even if it is not in the same language as the original. For a comparison, I bet that if someone translates the New York Times to a foreign language and publishes it, the newspaper would most certainly sue for copyright violation. I think the same applies to Wikipedia's copyright policy. Greetings, --Victor12 14:20, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I've just retagged it. Have a nice day, --Victor12 15:52, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Encore wiki

I intended this article to be a work-in-progress. However, it appears that new articles risk deletion if they are not initially comprehensive. I will recreate this page once I have more substantial content to start with. I have read the Wikipedia guidelines; this contribution will be compliant. Vlpeters 23:04, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Timeline of the Revelation Space universe

You deleted this stub with the comment "No context and entirely in-universe, could never be a valid article".

Neither of these two complaints are listed in the policy of Speedy deletion. In fact, "non notable" and "very short" are specifically listed as invalid reasons for speedy deletion.

Unless I'm missing something, I believe that this stub should have been flagged for the normal deletion debate.

I note that there is a category called Category:Fictional_timelines that has dozens of articles. See also the article List_of_fictional_timelines.

I'd like to hear your thoughts before I recreate it.

Thanks, TJIC 02:47, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More D&D discussion

Hi. I am copying this to you from what I posted at Talk:Dungeons_&_Dragons_(album). I have done some more fact checking and have compiled quite a list here. User:Ebonyskye/Sandbox. It appears that your original complaint about this music by Garfinkle not being for the RPG format is incorrect. All the songs are to accompany the pen and paper games (though the songs were also released on other album compilations that accompanied the books). They are not for video games or the like, which I think was your first concern. So, according to this, I really do not think we can safely say that the Midnight Syndicate album is the only officially licensed album, nor the first. Aside from Garfinkle's "Songs of the Dragon" there is the "First Quest" music album, which features a wide range of musicians, and it has the D&D stamp right on it. Let me know what you think. I think it's worth checking into. Ebonyskye 00:56, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Scope creep

Hi there,

I'm bypassing my own db-nocontext and your own prod, and redirecting the "Why most IT projects fail?" page to an already well-written existing essay - I think that the author might be better updating that article than writing his own essay. -- Iván Sánchez(talk) 11:29, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad article deleted

Link:http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wheaton_Volunteer_Rescue_Squad&action=edit

Sir, The above article I created was marked for speedy deletion. This is my first crack at creating an article on the public wikipedia board and so am learning a touch here:

Background on WVRS: A 13 year member of Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad. I'm also in charge of ensuring access to WVRS information anywhere we can make it possible. WVRS is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization of volunteers that serve Montgomery County Marlyand residents with 911 emergency fire/rescue service. We are an extraordinarily busy volunteer station with over 12,000 calls of service in 2006. WVRS was founded by residents of Montgomery County over 50 years ago.

Specific Question: 1. What specific content would enable an article about a non-profit organization to be deemed "worthy?"

2. We run an internal wikipedia site for WVRS. My mission was to establish an article spot so that members of the station could collaboratively share the work load of creating a really great wikipedia article. We've had success with with this mechanism of content creation internally and wish to transfer that to the public wikipedia site.

Thanks so much for your time and consideration. Looking forward to hearing from you.

[edit] Enter Sandman

Hi J Milburn, was just wondering... could you take a look at this peer review of the above Metallica song? A user wishes to get it to FA status, and seems like a decent writer. I was hoping your expertise may come in handy, and help him accomplish this. LuciferMorgan 03:09, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion

Oh, I see the quandry, and I did it with another one. Can you just change the AfDs to the new corrected article titles and speedy the old ones? Correcting the titles doesn't change the substance of the debates, but I see that tied to the AfD--which I didn't think of when I added the speedy tag--they can't be deleted. Can you possibly fix this, then delete the misnomers? KP Botany 00:33, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, keeping the same name is fine, which is what I thought originally, but I realize now that I didn't think I would appear to be deleting the AfD. Thanks. KP Botany 00:48, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
This is the other one I was talking about, where I moved it to the correct title, then speedied the old title. DAVID CREWS KP Botany 00:49, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Baseball umpires

thanks for notifying my pictures, prick. whats the point? you're just going to delete them anyway. Mghabmw 02:03, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

So, someone's at a Yankees-Red Sox game and sees all these all stars... and they're going to take a picture of the umpire and share it with the world. not likely. Mghabmw 02:05, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I find your tagging my pics abusive. Excuse me for my speech, but if I don't tone it down for my mom, I'm not going to tone it down for you. Mghabmw 02:07, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

OK, I'll spend money for every major league baseball series just to take photos of the umpires. last time they had major league baseball where i life was... never. they're promo shots, to promote the umps, and in my belief- are eligible for fair use.Mghabmw 02:10, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

It's the fact that you're being a dick about the policies. Go delete the pictures, I don't give a shit. Mghabmw 02:12, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I got a promo shot from their employer. There are no free images available right now. These images illustrate the subject. It is an image of the subject and not an image of an image of the subject. I cited the owner of the images and if I find a free image, would gladly replace the fair-use image. You're being a dick because you're giving me shit for trying to contribute on a subject you don't know jack shit about because of these ambiguous rules that no one can agree upon. [edit] Amazing Charts EHR

I would like you to reconsider your deletion of Amazing Charts (though I would prefer it be renamed Amazing Charts). This company and software has received national attention as it has an anti-establishment approach in hopes of increasing EHR adoption - a fundamental issue discussed in Electronic Health Records.

I was in the process of editing this, but below are a few references from reputable publications which I hope will encourage you to recognize that this is not simply a form of advertising, but rather something which belongs in Wikipedia. Thank you for reconsidering this.

[edit] Dubai Lime is under review by you

Dear J Milburn I see you have put dubai lime under review for deletion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubai_lime

May I please ask why you have done so?...Please do let me know of the reasons so I can correct them. Dubai Lime is one of the most noted and well known community in the city of Dubai.

If I am doing something wrong with my editing please do let me know. Thank you for your time and advice Sabature —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sabature (talkcontribs) 21:17, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

J Milburn..I have read the guide lines. But I am unclear about them. 1. Will I need to add more news paper articles to the referencing link or create and external link area. 2. The references will need to be changed and I am unclear on how to do that. I am a word press and worldpress.org member and their editing toolbar is very different. Though I am getting in line with the wiki edit bar I am still unclear on how to do that.

If there is any help you could provide me I would be much obliged. Thank you --Sabature 21:30, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

J Milburn Thank you for your advice and the citation links. I have edited the Dubai Lime page a bit. If you could please have a look and tell me if I would need to make more changes or any more advice you could give me I would appreatiate it. Is the wikilink still under review after the appropriate changes have been made? If so what else will have to be done in order to unsure the wikilink does not get deleted.

Thank you.--Sabature 22:41, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Dear J Milburn, I have added the news paper articles for Dubai Lime that are on the web. Dubai Lime appears on all the newspapers entertainment and community sections everyday. Even on the internet there are just too many articles on Dubai Lime but I added the ones I saw as the best few. Please do have a look and let me know what you think

I cannot begin to thank you more for your help. I believe you can see as well how it has greately improved my wiki article editing skills :). --Sabature 23:14, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Aha..Then I should recheck that..Thanks. The news article portion is ok isnt it??--Sabature 23:33, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh trust me it is a big website here in Dubai...The web service provider Etisalat banned it and people started flooding them with emails to unblock it. Though the website has only 2500 users it has more than 600,000 views on it and is the top 20 websites in Dubai..--Sabature 23:42, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Dubai Lime has countless articles..I don't want to post all of them because the wiki page is going to look very bad..I wanna get more content for the body of the wiki article...You think I should add my signature since someone else started the article??..I read your articles really nice work.--Sabature 23:52, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I understand...I am going to add topics that go along with these and more articles on this wiki article...I just added these news articles in order to convince the editors to let it stay so I can get more time to work and build on this wiki article...Like my articles that get published and linked on CNN I try and use as less links or contact information as possible it makes my articles look bad..Personally I would just add one news article but I need space to build on wiki articles and its going to be a new experience for me...

My next step for this article is to get the Dubai Lime reality show updated on here and the Film Nights but for that I need to go to one of those events to see what they are really like so my wiki article has fist hand information--Sabature 00:09, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Ohh I see well there are loads of those but they are blogs and news articles on print. Can I include Blog information after getting approval from the blogger and add them to the references section of the wiki article?? By the way it does not read like an advert anymore It would be most appreciated if you could read it now.--Sabature 00:17, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

I just did a major edit on all sections of the article..If it still reads like an advert can you please help me with the article? I guess I am just too used to writing first person and need to adjust to the wiki way...Are you an international editor?? I read your wiki articles they really really awesome work..well deserved prize mate --Sabature 00:44, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

I am doing the internal linking as we speak. That goes to saying the word Dubai is internally linked a lot but since I have added it to the see also area I should not add it to the article should I? and External Links should be a minimum so I am just adding the most important ones which are part of the Dubai Lime website or an article. International Editor = An Editor that reviews articles before they go on websites like CNN, BBC etc. I write locally and internationally on marketing topics since I am a marketing major at my university. It is one of the main reasons why my articles sound so advert. A member of the international marketing committee and I have helped review and scrap various marketing techniques that are more like brain washing the public. You wont believe it but people can make you buy bones by the right methods and the things people come up with as marketing techniques are like committing crimes. I cant tell you about them here for the whole world to read but I might be able to talk about them if you like on email or messenger. Programing young minds to buy products till death is a marketing committee review scrap I worked on most. Its like brain washing someone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sabature (talkcontribs) 01:12, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations on getting Chrome Division to GA, which was a great contribution to the Metal project. Should you ever have anything else you wish to contribute to the project, then get in touch. LuciferMorgan 21:20, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
I noticed that you said in one AFD that if the Metallica songs are that notable, then why haven't they been written with reliable sources. No offence, but I'll illustrate how this way of thinking doesn't work; check Imagine (song), or Voodoo Child (Slight Return). These two songs are some of the greatest songs of our time, according to me and critics, and yet their articles are real poor. Though I support the deletion of 99% of the Metallica songs (I wouldn't if they were of GA status or above, irrespective of notability), I'm just messaging to say that even the most renowned songs lack quality articles on Wikipedia. It's sad but true (to quote that great song) :) LuciferMorgan 09:29, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Could you take a look at some of the song articles for United Abominations. I'd say that one or two are likely non-notable, and the relevant info should be in the album article. LuciferMorgan 17:31, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
I wouldn't have got in touch if I didn't think some of them were not notable, and you've tagged the ones I think currently do not satisfy notability. I'd be persuaded to a keep if they could find more sources, like I did for Jihad (song) or like M3tal H3ad did for Angel of Death (song). The Metal project needs someone killing the non-notable articles, so good job. LuciferMorgan 17:49, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Could you take a look at Rockdetector? I created it when I wasn't really aware of notability etc., and now upon knowing the criteria better I feel it should be AFD'd. What do you think? If you agree, feel free to AFD it. LuciferMorgan 00:26, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Ok, that's fine. I just wished to scope for an opinion, that's all. LuciferMorgan 14:37, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

One of the Metallica songs AFD'd is No Remorse (song). A guy called Troy Kunkle blamed this on a murder he committed, which I think establishes a small notability. It was reported in a few areas of the US press. What do you think? LuciferMorgan 15:59, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
